Charlie Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Apparently there is an event for game retailers on today, where they think they will be told their stock allocation and the launch games in Europe... Anyone else here something about this? Any info on it?
blender Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 apparently there was one wii too many. This caused the tower they were building topple. That was the end of the wii tower Maybe next time they will build it on a bed of stone.
Migraine Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I know GAME are supposed to be getting 60% of the UK's Wii stock... if that helps :S
blender Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 argos normally gets the lion share of everything. Cant see how this matters to us joe publics who have already secured our preorders? Unless maybe shops have a better idea of prices and can start being realistic about thinkgs like game prices.
Ramar Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I know GAME are supposed to be getting 60% of the UK's Wii stock... if that helps :S That's got to be wrong. For example, there is two Games in Luton, but there is at least another five shops that would sell Wii's. Eg. Gamestation, Comet, Toys R Us, Woolworths, Argos. So you're telling me these two Game shops will get 6/10 units and the rest have 4 to go between them. Unlikely. (Note 6 and 4 are unrealistic numbers, I used them to make the maths simple, its too early for maths)
Sooj Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I know GAME are supposed to be getting 60% of the UK's Wii stock... if that helps :S Really? Where did you read/hear that? Thats a massive amount but then I guess Nintendo and GAME did have a deal going with the DS maybe they are going to continue it with the Wii.
Patch Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 That picture is awesome! 60% does sound like a lot...
blender Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I know that argos are getting 33% and amazon 24%. FTW (hmm sometimes things just dont add up)

(Note 6 and 4 are unrealistic numbers, I used them to make the maths simple, its too early for maths) I think Game will probably get a larger quantity than other stores but 60% is too much. Game afterall are the biggest chain that specialise in selling only games. Although I think Gamestation are/will be giving them a run for there money nowadays. Oh and there's only 1 Game store in Luton now, the one that used to be EB is now a Costa Coffee. And the one in Debenhams is gone.
Ashley Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Its not just (if at all) about size and market share, if Game gave them 10 million (random figure) then they'd get more.
raven_blade2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I just hope theres enough to go around.
ShadowV7 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 All I know is that their is a conference today for retailers I'm hoping we'll get the official launch titles and allocations.GAME will probably get the most for sure though...
Nintendork Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I know GAME are supposed to be getting 60% of the UK's Wii stock... if that helps :S This is representitive of their market share. 58%. Seems like Nintendo will be giving the other 40% to the large chain retailers, super markets and other major retailers in a roughly even spread. GameStation, Argos and Tesco will likely take up about 20-30% of the remaining allocations. With the finally 10-20% going to indie stores and online retailers. /me Educated guess based on the 360 launch. edit. Maths time! worst case scenario.. there's 7 million units before the end of the year (Nintendo says they could go to 9 million) Lets say Europe gets 2 million, 2 million for the US and 2 million for Japan.. and 1 million for everwhere else. The UK is a pretty large market in Europe.. no doubt the biggest so lets say we get 700,000 of those units. (300,000 for the 360) 60% of that is about 400,000 GAME group has 700 stores based in Europe. That's a 570 Wii units per store (average) by the end of the year. My local GAME store only got 115 XBOX 360s.
Fresh Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Hopefully amazon will start pre-ordering today then.
Nintendork Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 PLEASE tell us Europes launch titles! We'll know 2 weeks before the system launches.. Nintendo Europe's translation brigade will have to send any finished disc images to the presses in Japan or German (not sure where it's being done this generation as it's on DVD) But at the moment they're probably working to have the same titles as the US and Japanese launch.. it's not easy having to translate to 5 languages. I imagine the text heavy games wont make it (except Zelda) Dissapointment and confusion is one thing Nintendo wants to avoid at Christmas after the bitch slap XBOX got with the 360 launch.

They could tell us what 'Nintendo' games are out at launch though, right? I just want them to announce 'Excitetruck' as a European launch title...
YenRug Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 (not sure where it's being done this generation as it's on DVD) No, it's the same physical size and has the same capacity, but they're a proprietary format. If I recall correctly, Panasonic created it for Nintendo, in the same way they created the GC discs. DVD production lines might be able to create them, with some re-tooling, but they will not be produced alongside DVD discs on the exact same equipment.
Nintendork Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Ah must be that reverse laser bullshit then. I suppose this is better news.. we'll probably know in the next 2 weeks because if they have to be produced in Japan they'll have to be shipped and produced earlier so Nintendo can meet demand. To stockpile a several million games will talk 2-3 weeks. We can't even know Nintendo titles really.. because they all have to be translated by humanoids. I expect Excite Truck to be there solely because it's got little to no text involved.
demonmike04 Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Yeah, today there is a Nintendo meeting going on. Its at a brewery too, which means they'l get pissed before/after the meeting. Cube_game sent me the leaflet after he scanned it, its saying how you'l find out how Nintendo will save christmas, so presumingly, launch titles and stock allocation.
Mimternet Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I'm assuming there will be enough copies of the games to go around or is it worth reserving Zelda too? I want Excite Truck - because it's Nintendo it will have to be of a certain quality. I don't really like racing games, but I always thought Wave Race was brilliant because it was so different. An exaggerated extreme racing game sound good to me.
Nintenchris Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 This was sent to all the retailers as far as i know.
Ren of Heavens Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 PLEASE tell us Europes launch titles! A release list I've seen on several forums today. Don't know if it's 100% accurate...
