marcel Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 hey, What ethernet sort are you going for with the Wii. the Wifi or the ethernet cable(trough usb dongle). I prefer cable over wifi becouse is saver. more stable and 9 of the 10 times faster than wifi. and sinse the Wii will probebly will not support wpa encryption. and WEP encryption is way to easy to hack i will go for the ethernet kit.
Kurtle Squad Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I agree with conzer, and also....who the hell's gonna try n hack ur router of WEP anyway?
marcel Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 sorry for my bad english. what i ment was. are you going to use the Wifi or the lan adapter for the Wii and why?
Zechs Merquise Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I don;t think your English was the problem mate, just your use of 'techo-bable' lol
conzer16 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Wifi. Saves any messy wires. It wont make much difference whether you use the usb adapter or wifi.
Shino Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I agree with conzer, and also....who the hell's gonna try n hack ur router of WEP anyway? You'd be surprised. Or not
Waylander Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I'll use WiFi. I dont want cables trailing all over the place and I've been using it for Xbox Live for the last 5 months with no problems and very little lag.
gaggle64 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Probably get a Wii and DS compatible router when I get a wii.
Nintendork Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 It is not intensive enough to warrant using a cable. Literally Nintendo is not giving away a premium service that uses bare bandwidth. It's going to be optimized so it saves them as much money as possible. People say oh ethernet is faster.. but end of the day the system won't be transferring that much data in one burst. Wireless for the win. Only n00bs forget to maintain a wireless connection properly and forget to secure it.
Emasher Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 i have the business (relly good fast) internet from mts
The3rdChildren Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I will literally unplug the crossover cable in my Xbox 360 and plug it into the Wii ethernet adapter since my PC is already configured to ICS my connection to whatever the hell is on the other end of that crossover cable. I'll do this because the dongle is a piece of shit.
Cold Fire Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Unless your Interwebs connection is over 54Mbps then i dont see any reason to use Ethernet (unless of course u dont have a WiFi router?)!
Charlie Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Unless your Interwebs connection is over 54Mbps then i dont see any reason to use Ethernet (unless of course u dont have a WiFi router?)! Yeah, the wireless connection will guaranteed be faster than your internet connection, so you wont miss out on anything unless there are about 5 walls in between you and the other end of the wireless connection. Also, the wireless connection isn't ethernet, ethernet is the name of the wired one. I'll be using wireless as I've already got a router and I know it works with my DS.
Kazzahdrane Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 56K ALL THE WAY! Hooray! 56k seems so long ago, back in the dark ages. But in truth I've only had broadband for just over 2 years.
Cube Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I'll be using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. There isn't really any other way to connect it up without getting 2 USB Ethernet cable adapters.
The fish Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Well, considering I'm just about to order a 30m ethernet cable for my 360, it makes sense to just by the USB-to-ethernet adapter for the Wii. Besides, my house is a wierd shape, so Wi-fi has a problem getting for my computer to my living room.
fatnickc Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I'll be using Wifi. I've had no problems whatsoever using it with my DS, but if needs be I'll get an Ethernet cable over a new router.
martinist Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 i'll be using WiFi it seems to work fine with my DS although there is the annoying hassle of puting in the WEP Key when you first rig the connection
marcel Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 i hope that nintendo inplants WPA encryption for the Wii. WEP encryption is so 90's and so easy to hack. ill take the wire adapter if they only support WEP encryption.
Guest Stefkov Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Well, considering I'm just about to order a 30m ethernet cable for my 360, it makes sense to just by the USB-to-ethernet adapter for the Wii. I bought a 10m one and I have plenty spare for my 360, depends on how far away it is.30 m is big though. I think. I'll probably do the same as fish. I have an ethernet for my 360, so i might just use that with the usb-ethernet adaptor ive got already. Shame no-ones invented an ethernet splitter.
Sparko Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I'll be using Wifi. I got a wireless router a few days ago and it works flawlessly with the DS, so I'll continue using it with the Wii. I'm using WEP and MAC address filtering.
DCK Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I got WiFi working now, excellent with my DS and it delivers constant performance with my PC so I'll use the same for the Wii.
