xernobyl Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Those pictures look pretty cool with the print grain and small size
Blue_Ninja0 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I still want to know for sure whether or not the Wii version has mulitplayer! Local multiplayer and maybe LAN, but not online play is my bet. I'm very sad with the news. It's really hard to tell if it looks good from those pictures, but they don't seem bad.
pedrocasilva Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 erm... Source: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/815/815492/imgs_1.html Are they even trying? I'd certainly hope this is a old build. I won't, and I don't recomend anyone starting a "ohh wii does bad graphics" talk, this is just plain bad, PS2 textures, when the console has plenty of RAM and plenty polygons too, there's no excuse with blocky helmets (not that blocky, at least) and non-detailed fingers in one of the pictures (the one with 3 soldiers sat talking). Also notice that these pictures are highly compressed in jpeg, so they have jaggies that happen to sharpen the edges and overall image. (IGN does this quite often)
IMJ Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Not overly impressed either. But then again, in motion they look far better. As long as they work the controls out Im fine with it. I had decent fun with Big Red One on the Cube. Btw, I believe I read at IGN that the game wont have multiplayer. Maybe for the next version?

Nintendork Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Lacks atmosphere, which in my honest opinion should be the top priority of any simulation war game. Until they get the atmosphere that war game fans come to expect this game should not be released.. I am not a war game fan personally.. I like the twisted FPS games like Unreal.. but I enjoy Counter Strike because the authenticity and atmosphere the game brings with it's pace. This game lacks all of these things, I was tempted to buy a war game for the Wii.. but I'll wait until something better comes along.
Tony_Montana Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 As for additional Wii functionality, Activision informed us that there will be no WiiConnect24 support for Call of Duty 3. In addition, the experience is one player only, offering no split-screen or multiplayer gaming this time around.
Hellfire Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Not even split screen? That's just ridiculous. Seriously sometimes, I think companies are being payed to fuck up. Anywyay, I think the game has a lot of atmosphere, CoD2 had it and this looks better than that in motion, and that weapon grabbing thinging kind of adds impact. If the game's any good, I'll buy it since i liked CoD2
system_error Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 With the current launch lineup I would reject the game for my plattform as the creator of a unique experience. Activision will make money with that game and Nintendo gets the bad reputation - not really a fair deal.
DCK Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 The IGN preview says this one's graphics make it to a 'medium Xbox game'... I suppose they didn't bother too much with graphics on this one. They do mention that there's a lot happening on screen, as much as in the CoD 360, without problems, but if it looks like this it would be pretty bad if it would affect performance. It looks like an RTS
Nintendork Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 With the current launch lineup I would reject the game for my plattform as the creator of a unique experience. Activision will make money with that game and Nintendo gets the bad reputation - not really a fair deal. Nintendo tried that with the GameCube being too prescriptive with the license requirements and acting too elitist, you only go on our console if we let you attitude. They're much more open now.. this can't just apply to the indie developpers but to all publishers and teams. Otherwise that would be double standards.. irrespective people love to shoot nazi's and this game will sell a ton. The Wii lacks FPS at launch so it will probably lubricate sales in the US which is currently FPS crazy.
Shino Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 The textures are really below average, I don't know how much action is going on (IGN said there was a lot), but still...
Pyxis Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 This is another game that I wont be buying because of rubbish graphics. It looks like a Playstation 2 game. If I wanted crap looking games, I would buy a Sega Saturn. The only way these publishers will learn is if we dont buy their games, and then they'll just drop the Wii console...It's a lose lose situation for us consumers and theres nothing we can do about it. I'll be buying Red Steel and that's it.
LazyBoy Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 No multiplayer? Screw that, i'm saving my money for developers who make an effort.
c0Zm1c Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I'm not bothered about multiplayer, online or off. And I'd prefer a PC version. Since that's not going to happen (...yet?) only the Wii version interests me (controls), and if it receives poor reviews then I'll just not bother.
arnie360 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 heh heh, 360 version for me, along with hells highway, gears of war, rainbow six vegas, double agent.... So, poor graphics and no online, not the best start for the Wii 3rd party train is it?
c0Zm1c Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 With a question mark still hanging over how good the controller is, in terms of single-player gameplay, I think it remains to be seen how good the Wii version of Call of Duty 3 will be. Of course, for those who value graphics and multiplayer gaming over anything else, this version certainly isn't for them. Unfortunately, particularly for multiplayer, I'll bet that's a lot of people. Graphics aside, to sell the game to a larger audience, maybe Activision should have held this version back until they were able to add multiplayer (both online and off), and maybe throw in a bonus or two - the inclusion of Wii versions of CoD 1 and 2 perhaps? - as a consolation for the wait. Sounds generous I know, but you should see all the stuff Valve are planning to include with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Half-Life²!
Hellfire Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I'm actually impressed by IGNs impressions I might pick this up if it controls well. I just can't understand why there's no splitscreen multiplayer, but what the hell. Also it doesn't look worse than CoD 2 on 360, specially on SD.
AshMat Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Im considering it, i may get it for christmas. That knive fighting thing looks good.
Smiter Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 IGN has new CODWii shots up in their gallery: http://uk.media.wii.ign.com/media/815/815492/imgs_1.html The action looks nice and hectic, but the soldiers still have the same rough Penguin-like hands. At least that shouldn't be too noticeable while you're in combat.
pedrocasilva Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Overall, the Wii version of Call of Duty 3 seems to be shaping up to be on an even level with its predecessors. However, since the Wii version lacks a multiplayer mode, players who own more than one console may have to decide which features they would prefer. Also, it's worth noting that while it may not be quite as shiny as the Xbox 360 or PS3 builds, the game doesn't look nearly as bad as some of the screenshots make it appear. Source: http://planetgamecube.com/impressionsArt.cfm?artid=12199 Attack of the old build screenshots, or atack of the PS2 build screenshots? you choose. Also: Yes, the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii versions of the game are graphically different. Looking across the field of battle through the field glasses on the 360 looked crisp and sharp. Running through a forest full of hidden Germans looked photorealistic, even with falling leaves that you could zoom in on and see every close-up detail. Running through burned out buildings on the Wii looked ... GameCubish. We pressed the Treyarch to tell us which version they favored, but they resisted our interrogation. Something was amiss, and headquarters didn't want us to know about it. Loose lips sink ships and all that. Once more into the breach, we played each the game on each individual system. The missions and campaign are identical on each system, as are the controls. The PS3 has tossed in an "Oh crap! The Wii might steamroll us! Invent something!" motion senstive melee attack. Twist the controller left or right, and pop your enemy in the face with a rifle butt. (...) Finally, we were taken into the Wii dungeon and handed a nunchuck, a Wii-mote and told to enjoy. Holy disorientation, Batman! It was like playing a totally different game. The Wii-mote points, aims and fires your gun, spins your character around and also handles reloading through an upward flick of the wrist. The nunchuck moves you around via the thumbstick and lets you toss grenades with a throwing motion. You can also flick it to the left or right to change weapons. You would accuse us of drinking and Wii-ing if you had seen our first two tries at the game, spinning in place and lurching around like Mel Gibson on a Malibu highway. Once we got things under control however, it was a lot more enjoyable playing the Wii version. Yes, it might have GameCube quality graphics, but it adds boatloads of a much more important element: fun. All of the hand swinging and gesturing really immerses you in the game. At one stage, an enemy knocks your weapon out of your hand, and you have to struggle with him, via a Wii-mote minigame, in order to win back your weapon. Activision calls these "Battle Actions," and they are much more intuitive through the Wii while the PS3 motion controller feels tacked on and too late to the game in this department. solitanze Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 It is my Call Of Duty to not buy this half assed garbage. But fingers crossed a lot of people buy these mediocre games so that support for Wii continues encouraging developers to make better games and not end up like the failure that was Gamecube.
Owen Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I don't think this is out till early next year guys! In the ONM it states 'Call Of Duty 3' is one of the games coming out in the following 12 weeks after launch! Could be wrong though! Although perhaps it would be best to give the game some-more time with the amount of tepid responses it's getting (we are the consumers afterall). I don't think it looks too-bad, just a little jaggy round the edges, i bet it looks better running! Although the no online, no split-screen multiplayer etc.. etc.. doesn't warrent the £39.99 it will probably have, does it? Espicially with the 360 version being at the same price in most places.
