That's a logical move. I suppose this could play very well with the Wiimote horizontally, and now you can turn the Wiimote to turn the camera. It also get's all the exposure of a Wii game so that's better too.

It's a shame the Cube won't get an exclusive goodbye though. It deserved it.

Super Paper Mario still on Cube

Reader Popple wanted to know what the real deal was with Super Paper Mario. We have had a back and forth war with the game, hearing confirmations on both ends. Nintendo hasn’t made a public statement as to where the game will end up, but we have seen documents that support both sides of the arguement. Popple took the time to email the folks at Nintendo, and below is a portion of the response he received.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

You’ll be glad to hear that Super Paper Mario will still be a Nintendo GameCube game. However, the release date has changed. It is now listed as 4th Quarter (October, November, or December) 2006. As always (and you may have already read this), if you’re interested in future video game releases, our website’s Game List (http://www.nintendo.com/gamelist) is your best resource for official information. Once there, click “Show advanced filtering†and use the dropdown menus to narrow your search based on system, publisher, number of players, etc.

As for another confirmation, Nintendo’s official press site lists the game for Cube as well.

Or perhaps not:

The Super Paper Mario saga continues

Reader Saoh2000 sent me a link to a Japanese Wii release schedule which lists Super Paper Mario for the Wii. You can find the link below.

See the list here

Thing is, we posted this list back during the NCL event, and we knew that the list had Super Paper Mario on it. This is what started the confusion in the first place! Should we believe this Japanese list, or the response we posted earlier? This is why I have no real idea what the game is coming out on.

Anyway... I think there's some miscomunications going on with Nintendo as of now, they need to enforce that.

NoE "hey there's no DS redesign"

NoJ on the following day "yes there is!"

---------------

NoA "Wii is not region coded"

NoE "Yes it is"

NoA "No it isn't"

NoA "Yes it is"

This is not good.

Exactly what they did with Twilight Princess they are doing with this game and its the better move, tacking on Motion Sensor capabilities, they're probably doing the same with that Kirby Game as well. Why keep games on a console that'll earn them $1US revenue. Gamecubes finished and despite getting Nintendo the bare minimum required to be successful finacially, in comparison to the performance of PS2, it was a complete failure. Nintendos least successful console in history [excluding Virtual Boy] can now be put to rest after its final game being Twilight Princess is released. Bring on Wii and its 100+ novelty games [mixed in with some quality games as well].

I reckon they want to tease us with some old school mario world on the Virtual Console before getting us hyped for this. The world is all about zelda for now. Metroid and Mario galaxy are needed next for their online elements and of course we got warioware between. So i'm not sure where this will fit in the schedule

oh loved thousand year door.. ign says that this is cancelled for the GameCube and moved to Wii (they now ofcourse have to invent a way to use the wii-mote on this one).. would also be a bit stupid releasing it on the gameCube.. oh dear.. it is Nintendo.. they will release it on the GameCube

APRIL  [in the US at least]

Takes place in the town of Flipside, where a giant black hole looms overhead, complete with floating math equations (that old story again huh?!)

Mario gains the ability to change perspective at will, switching from the normal side scrolling 2d view to a 3d view of the 2d “paper mario like” world

Switching camera from 2d to 3d is necessary. Some puzzles can only be solved by switching the camera to reveal new paths on a level

Wiimote is held sideways, 2 button is used to jump, A button to switch view.

Mario collects friends called Pixis that give him special abilities. These abilities make use of the Wiimote capabilities. One Pixi named Tippy allows you to point the Wiimote at the screen to learn more about enemies, or discover hidden passages.

Shaking the Wiimote at the right time when you jump on an enemy allows you to get more points

Graphics have received a noticeable upgrade since E3 videos
