Domo Kun Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I am a huge fan of derpressing music - e.g. Gary Jules - Mad World Can anyone recommend any bands? Thanks.
AshMat Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The whole of H.I.M-Dark Light, and msot stuff by Nirvana. When i lsitened to dark light, i actually got depressed. OH! And morrisey, but i must admit he is quite good.
The3rdChildren Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 One word. Komm, Susser Todd. Okay, so that was three words. Go get it. For those of you who like to know things, please know the following thing: Komm, Susser Todd translates to Come, Sweet Death.

skarmachild Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Not sure if it's directly depressing, but I like it: http://www.gigwise.com/contents.asp?contentid=12301 Maybe im just out of it.
Tom Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 recently i've been depressed, and i have been listening to jeff buckly and anthony and the johnsons. gary jules is also fantastic for depression, and joy division. just try and think of bands wose mebers have killed them selves and youll be fine
CVD Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 James Blunt and David Gray are two peronal favourites of my depressing genre.
rizz Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Just get some good bleak black metal. Xasthur, Judas Iscariot, Burzum, you'll be slittiing your wrists in no time
Jack Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The only depressing thing about HIM is that people actually spend money on it.
Domo Kun Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 I'm not really into metal, but thanks. Thanks for all the bands, I'm going to download the ones I haven't heard now.
Mundi Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Get some songs with a band called Sigurrós it´s very slow and very depressomg
demonmike04 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The whole of H.I.M-Dark Light, and msot stuff by Nirvana. When i lsitened to dark light, i actually got depressed. OH! And morrisey, but i must admit he is quite good. Dark light isnt much of a depressing album compared to others, like love metal. Theres quite a few feel-good songs on there, like killing loneliness. Play dead is really depressing though... Angels and airwaves...depressing because they are just plain awful in my opinion, nobody wants you to sing Tom! It was always Mark that impressed!
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Josh Radin- Winter. Please don't just skip over this track, it really is beautiful. It was used in Scrubs in Ben's funeral scene
MoogleViper Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Apart from Gary Jules - Mad World, a good depressing (oxymoron?) song is Timothy by Jet. But that makes me depressed 'cos it reminds me of my cousin. You may or may not find it depressing. Still a good song though.

But that makes me depressed 'cos it reminds me of my cousin. You may or may not find it depressing. Still a good song though. Sounds like an oxymoron, but it isnt, since the meaning for good and depressing dont clash, good describes your opinion about something, but if you wrote happy depressing, it would of been an oxymoron.
Charlie Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Radiohead, can't get much more depressing than them
Ramar Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 and msot stuff by Nirvana. WTF.. Just no. (But thats just my opinion) The drugs don't work - The Verve Thats the only depressive song I can think of.
rizz Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-497394882440593140&q=burzum The Burzum music video, it's not the most depressing song he made, but you get the idea. The video is a bit crap, but since he was in jail not much he can do about that :P
Shorty Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I'm not really into metal, but thanks. Thanks for all the bands, I'm going to download the ones I haven't heard now. Just because HIM called one of their albums "Love Metal" doesn't make it Metal. In fact, calling HIM metal is an insult to all Metal music. Pile o' crap.

Owen Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I love HIM, but i wouldn't say the music is depressing, because his gothic, wears alot of black and sings about gothic stuff doesn't make it depressing, more enchanting! Anyway his songs are really catchy! Sigur rós are superb and are very similar to a band called 'Mew' who also rock! Again i wouldn't say depressing just 'very' relaxing, background music. I love Gary Jules version of Mad World, i didn't like it at all until i saw Donnie Darko, it's depressing because it really is spot-on lyrically about life in my opinion even though you don't really want it to be. I say 'Radiohead' are very depressing, there not my cup of tea but musically they are very good. Muse as well? Perhaps?
Monopolyman Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 you'll be slittiing your wrists in no time That's the best use of a cheesy grin at the end of a sentence I've ever seen. U2 are a surprisingly good source for depressing music. I especially recommend 'Running to Stand Still' and 'Kite'. Also 'Tired of You' and 'Razor' by Foo Fighters, and 'Everybody Hurts' by REM (An obvious on, but for a reason).
Ashley Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Personally Sarah McLachlan's "Full of Grace" always touches a nerve becasue it reminds me of that-thing-who-shares-the-same-parents-as-me. Used to be able to name a lot of depressing songs, but now, not so much. Trying to think of a few... K's Choice - What the Hell is Love? Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Will Young - All Time Love Umm im stuck... I've tried to cut down my depressing music - trying to focus on the happy.
