I did not buy many games released this year on Switch (outside of Paper Mario 2), instead, I mostly brought and played older games I missed like Metroid Prime Remastered. Or I jumped back into games I never truly finished like CupHead.

Other then that, Fortnite is still the main game I keep going back to and I went back to Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed as they added new content throughout the year. I am quite surprised Mario Kart was my third most played game as I feel like I didn't play it much this year at all.

Once again, that’s not me playing ACNH, it’s someone else using my account.

If that one didn’t count, Great Ace Attorney Chronicles would probably be No: 3 (75 hours and counting!).

Think this year made it very clear that the Switch is far from my main console:

Oof...53 of my 57 hours played on Switch this year were split between my Top 3, with two of those being Pledge games, and the other being Tears of the Kingdom which I only played on the first 2 days of the year to help round off my 2023 games. All great games though, so, there's that.

Been a weird stretch for me on Switch for a while now, I think there's just a lack of excitement this far into the console's life to drive me to play games on it; even though there are undoubtedly Switch games I still want to experience that I haven't yet, none really have that pulling power for me right now. Is it the potential idea of a Switch 2 performance bump I wonder?

No clue ::shrug: very curious to see what this list will look like next year, assuming the Switch 2 has landed in time for next year's Year in Review.

Predictable results. Guess I spent more time on Bloodstained than I thought. Also, that NES time was almost all Fire'n Ice. Don't sleep on that game!

It was interesting to see the results month to month, because they reflected my general journey through the NSO: during the month of Shmups, the SNES app was my most played "game" (so, mostly Starfox and EDF, but the others count as well); In the month of Wily Wars, it was the Mega Drive, and so on.

Surprisingly solid recommendations, too. The Nintendo algorhythm actually worked this year!

(except they also recommended Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. I understand they do that to everybody, but they're F-tier recommendations for me)

Man, these yearly reviews are always so depressing.

On the positive side, this one is wrong, because in the past week, i actually got my son playing on the Switch for the first time! He wasn't that interested in Goose Game, but did love Mario Kart! Neither of those games seem to have shown up in the above, so it must have a date cut-off.

Where is your review, @Glen-i? As per the yearly tradition, I wanna see the ludicrous amount of hours you've played in 2024.

True greatness takes time, and MS Paint.

My insanity deserves a desktop!

Anyway, I'll have you know I played 200 hours less then last year!

Ugh, what are those weird icons at the top-middle? They don't exist on my Switch!

tHcgNeA.png

Miitopia is a very grindy game...

0oFaFI4.png

My Mii continues to be incorrect on the Nintendo website...
Then again, they think that TOTK is an RPG, so this pie chart is useless

Facinating, you can actually tell when I borrowed @Dcubed's Steam Deck!

There's actually two games that came out this year that I'd rate higher, but they weren't on Switch.
Still, it's a true GOTY contender, even if some farce won't acknowledge it.

And now for my favourite part!

How much do Nintendo not get me?

QDSBfHC.png

Let's go through each of them, shall we?

SMTV Vengeance - Kicking off with a big massive slap in the face right from the get go! I'm not stupid enough to pay for a game I've already played on the same console!
Unless it's Pokémon, and that series hasn't pulled that trick in years!
Nintendo World Championships - NES Edition - I guess this is one of my obligatory Nintendo picks? Not a terrible choice. Not super interested though.
Stardew Valley - I don't care for farming sims.
Unicorn Overlord - Ehhh... Not really sure. Strategy RPG's are a real crapshoot when it comes to my enjoyment. Probably the best suggestion here. Which is pretty sad.
Persona 5 Royal - They recommended this to me last year too. It's not happening.
Some crap open-world game
Persona 4 Golden - Ah, so they're doubling down? Look, I don't know how much Atlus are paying you. I ain't playing Persona!
Baten Kaitos I + II - If they could track me playing GC games, they'd know I tried the first game and didn't like it.
Peglin - *shrug* No idea.
CTR Nitro-Fueled - Didn't this have lootboxes at one point? I have some standards, thank you.

Fortnite came up as my first-played game of the year. With another Winterfest in the offing, it's got every chance of defending its position. It's interesting to reflect on where the spending went because I reckon it's the first year I haven't bought a Nintendo game.

Demos, Game Trials and the various NSO aside, it looks like I had these on:
MH Rise
Ys VIII
RingFit (my return to this didn't last long either, @Cube)
Mario Maker 2
Shiren The Wanderer
DQ Monsters
Lego City Undercover
OutRun
Ys IX
Baten Kaitos Origins (fell off it since @EEVILMURRAY wasn't playing along)
Chico and the Magic Orchards
TOEM
Link's Awakening
Theatrhythm
P5 Tactica
FF Legends III (need to get back to it)
The New Denpa Men
Portal (back on it briefly, intended to get to Portal 2 around this time of the year)
Doom, Doom II, Doom + Doom II
Flashback
Tinykin
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Splatoon 3
Reynatis
Castlevania Advance Collection (for Aria of Sorrow)
MK 8 DX
Ys X Nordics
FF VI
Tetris 99
DQ III
Fortnite
Fantasian
F-Zero 99

Looks like 14 purchases and none from the Big N! At least I think I played what I bought.

Given how many JRPGs you get through, I'm surprised that genre didnt win.

Not even treading water with them. Seems like since the GBA, it's always been the year of the RPG.

It's little wonder you aren't drawn to your Switch. :woops:

Yeah, there's definitely a cut-off for it. One other year, I tried running it again at the end of December but it didn't update.

Good to see your Switch got some play last month, @martinist

Did you enjoy that? I heard/read mixed things about it. Same goes for Fantasian.

The demo sold me on the gameplay and atmosphere so I was looking forward to the full-game. A tweak here and there wouldn't go a miss but overall I had a very good time with it.

Fantasian's been good stuff. I imagine the controls haven't been adapted properly because it's iffy if you keep running when you go between screens—learned that the hard way when I overshot a save point on the screen beside the first boss. Otherwise it's lovely. The day it came out the Switch news page wrongly said there was a demo, but there is one now if you want to give it a go.
