Aimless Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 But not the kind you were most likely expecting. It seems that expo goers in 2006 will be denied their annual chance to grope women without facing a lawsuit. The same can't be said for those cynical companies looking to pimp their substandard games through the use of a nonstandard female dress code. Yes, it seems that we might finally be rid of the infamous 'booth babes'. Of course it isn't that cut and dry, and it's too early to say whether any of these supposed on-the-spot fines will actually happen, but overall I think it's a positive step, not just for E3 but the industry as a whole. A small one, granted, but I can't be the only one that finds the entire notion of 'booth babes'* a bit embarrassing. So what are your thoughts, forumites? *Sorry, I cannot type that without punctuational protection.
Platty Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 In the past i have been to quite a few gaming events for C-E/R-E. I along with the others *cough* oli, joby, jav & tim *cough* only go for the booth babes.
Oli1983uk Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 What with my reputation! Never! *runs and hides Booth babe vids and pictures*
Ashley Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 To be fair its a surprise its taken this long. Although I'd imagine they'll try and offer up "Gaming Guys" or something to say they're being equal but it'll all flop and there will just be attractive women in slightly scandelous clothing, but nothing as slitty, slutty, titty or butty as previous years.
Jamba Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I'm not surprised really. What with Nintendo trying to break into new bits of the market (older folk and more women/girls) it would only make sense. Nothing spells "geeky-hormone-driven boys" than a festival full of sex advertising. It's about the products and it's a shame companies have to sink to this to promote. It's a wiser and more mature choice. You want the girls to play? Then get rid of the juvenile and boyish image.
Letty Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I still fail to see what gaming and booth babes have in common, but if they're getting paid, I see no problem.. [Edit] <--- eww...
oxygenuk Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 a lawsuit for groping a hot babe so lame, betime 2015 we'll be getting sued for eating food on the streets probably *sigh*
Kurtle Squad Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Booth babes aren't even that attractive anyway. They all fake and make-upy -_-
Ashley Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 a lawsuit for groping a hot babe They call that sexual assualt, which you get in muchos trouble for.
mario114 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Booth babes aren't even that attractive anyway. They all fake and make-upy -_- Your've been lookin at the wrong ones -more serously though, do you think any companies will just take the fine, i mean whats $5000 to a huge compansy like microsoft.
Aimless Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 ...do you think any companies will just take the fine, i mean whats $5000 to a huge compansy like microsoft. Expect a previously unknown developer to be the first to have their 'babes' escorted backstage in the hope of garnering some cheap publicity for their generic action game.
Sonic238 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 to be honest, i don't think removing the 'booth babes' will hurt the E3 very much. it only helps to focus more on the really interesting things. if i want to see babes, i can go to the beach or surf to google, whatever. the half-naked girls shouldn't be the real attraction in E3. i really don't mind that they're gone. and no, i'm not gay. no need for 'Gaming Guys' lol
knightendo Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 i think this is a good thing. as much as they were nice to look at from a guy's perspective (well, one or two were to be honest) it's not exactly giving out a good image. you expect this sorta thing at car shows and stuff, but if the industry we're following is wanting to expand like it says it does, this is a good but small step.
darkcloud Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 That's quite random.... I don't really see what the purpose is behind this... I mean it's not like anyone is naked........ :-/ You can see people dressed in less on day time TV so what's the problem? Oh and do these dress codes apply to journalists etc? If not couldn't they just get a couple of "cosplaying journalists" to come along and stand outside there booth for the whole show? lol you expect this sorta thing at car shows and stuff, but if the industry we're following is wanting to expand like it says it does, this is a good but small step. The way you say that makes it sound like the games industry is smaller then the car industry. lolol
Sonic238 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 [...] The way you say that makes it sound like the games industry is smaller then the car industry. lolol at least here in austria it IS in fact smaller than the car industry.
Aimless Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 That's quite random.... I don't really see what the purpose is behind this... If not couldn't they just get a couple of "cosplaying journalists" to come along and stand outside there booth for the whole show? The problem is one of association. The nudity itself is nothing, but the fact that it has become an integral part of the biggest trade show of the year does nothing but cement gaming's immaturity. On top of that you get the usual reinforcement of negative stereotypes, affirming videogaming's core demographic as teenage boys, aversion of possible new markets, etcetera, etcetera. The dress code applies to everyone on the show floor, and has done for years. Now they are (supposedly) going to crack down on those rules.
Hellfire Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 E3 is dead I don't care if Revolution is there and is totally amazing, it was all bout the booth babes... Or not. Seriously, I understand where they're coming from but this is just some PC bullshit. What's next they'll ban the chicks from car expos too? Meh
Konfucius Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 The E3Expo dress code policy is not new for 2006. In fact, it is the same as it has been for the past several years, and the vast majority of other major tradeshows have the same or similar policies. What's new in 2006 is an update of the enforcement policies, which simply allow show management to better enforce the long-standing dress code. E3Expo is first and foremost a business show, and policies such as this one help create an environment not only "where business gets fun", but where business gets done. Source: gamecloud.com So it isn't that severe after all...
Bowser57 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 What's next they'll ban the chicks from car expos too? Meh Well maybe they could have a "chick" expo for folks that'll miss them? Then all the sweaty little chaps that went to car and game expos just to perv at women could go there instead with no false pretentions as to what it's all about.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 They weren't particularly pretty- but you wouldn't say no. Would you?
Sonic238 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 They weren't particularly pretty- but you wouldn't say no. Would you? watch out for nintendo booth babes, they're gonna take your name
mario114 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 watch out for nintendo booth babes, they're gonna take your name That would be better than kicking your ass.
