Pestneb Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I don't think you'd find one person who in their heart of hearts believed SMK was more accessible or noob friendly than MK Wii. Genuinely seemed like Serebii was dismissing an entire post (note he called it bullshit, yet you called me out) based on a nuance within the game, which didn't even discredit the point I was making. He was just being awkward. Of course not, but in the context of 1992, with the games available, in relative terms they could be considered in the same place in terms of accessibility. Equally, as that judgement is based on personal experience, opinions and ideas.... It could lead to an interesting thread possibly, I guess

Goron_3 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) my nephew was the same, the game was too hard so it wasn't fun, he quit before he completed a single lap, then I suggested he tried playing as toad. He now chooses to play smk as often as mk8. Wait until he wants to play 1500cc as a quicker character like Bowser. VERY difficult. Funnily enough I only completed 100cc in SMK for the first time this year...owned it for 5 years but just couldn't nail star cup! Damn you, Vanilla Dome lol. Edit. Oh and thanks H-o-T for your fantastic post on the previous page..anyone who thinks the GC and N64 failed because of their power and targeting western gamers is missing a lot of info. Jonnas Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Edit. Oh and thanks H-o-T for your fantastic post on the previous page..anyone who thinks the GC and N64 failed because of their power and targeting western gamers is missing a lot of info. One thing that should be noted regarding this topic is that Nintendo's lack of success with those consoles, while it didn't happen because of their power, it happened despite it. Nintendo has other problems it needs to address, but power isn't a problem solver, either (at least not by itself). If Nintendo can address its issues with online, westernization, marketing, etc. then it can succeed despite console power, too. I like Bosman's comparison with a clumsy elephant doing their own thing, finding their successes in ways that other companies can't, because it's not only true now, it has always been true in so many ways.
Gizmo Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 These circular arguments involving un-definable words and concepts like "Hardcore gamer" and "Mature audience" are nonsensical and I can't believe they are still on going.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Iwatas approval went up 3%, everyone else's went down by various amounts. Miyamotos dropped by 6%. I guess they also weren't impressed by his E3 offerings. Interesting that everyone else has dropped but Iwata has went up. Some are speculating that maybe the blame is now being spread out across the board, rather than just pinning it in Iwata.

I can't imagine all of Nintendo's failings can be down to a singular individual in such a large company. The other big wigs have to take collective responsibility.

People say this as if an 80%+ approval rating across the board is a bad thing. It's not that common in big companies. Edited July 1, 2014 by Serebii
Hero-of-Time Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I can't imagine all of Nintendo's failings can be down to a singular individual in such a large company. The other big wigs have to take collective responsibility. I can see both sides of the argument. Some would agree with you, while others would say seeing as he's in change he is responsible for the company as a whole. Either way i'm not really fussed. Everyone is still in the same positions. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen.
Hogge Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) These circular arguments involving un-definable words and concepts like "Hardcore gamer" and "Mature audience" are nonsensical and I can't believe they are still on going. While it's impossible to draw a pin-sharp line between core and casual, mature and children, these terms aren't nonsense. These are terms used by people within the game business, from developers to publishers to marketing. When developing a game, you need to target an audience, and make the whole experience catered towards that audience. And I think that Miyamoto's reduced approval is so slight, I'd call it within a reasonable error margin. It is sad to see a legend like Miyamoto working on these cheap-feeling minigames, rather than trying to push the bounds of the videogame medium. Edited July 1, 2014 by Hogge

Not everything is about story.
Debug Mode Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 MIYAMOTO IS DOOMED. He should get his doctor to screen him for even the slightest of medical issues to raise his approval rating for the next annual meeting.
Serebii Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 MIYAMOTO IS DOOMED. He should get his doctor to screen him for even the slightest of medical issues to raise his approval rating for the next annual meeting. Thing is, there were serious posts like this on GAF...
Ronnie Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Thing is, there were serious posts like this on GAF... You should stop getting so wound up by posts on GAF. Gamers can be incredibly immature, more often than not sadly.
Ashley Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Yeah worrying about the state of the industry based on GAF posts is like worrying about the potential for cancer based on The Daily Mail.
Serebii Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Yeah worrying about the state of the industry based on GAF posts is like worrying about the potential for cancer based on The Daily Mail. Wait, you mean that crossing the road when not at the crossing doesn't cause cancer? Well damn...
Serebii Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 No, reading NeoGAF does. Well I have been getting headaches a lot more...

Serebii Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Mind blown that you continue to read/get wound up by some of the posts on there. Work at home, get bored in the day. What do you expect me to do? Go outside? Pah.
Sheikah Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I would laugh if people on Neogaf read Serebii's posts on N-E and make the exact same comments over there. "Have you heard this one about Serebii and earthquakes..."
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Work at home, get bored in the day. What do you expect me to do? Go outside? Pah. That's not really what I'm getting at. (Although, go outside. Bournemouth's weather is great this time of year, it all comes alive) If I was getting wound up by stuff that somebody or someplace was posting, I'd either stop reading it and ignore it or learn to live with it.
