All this better blahblahblah. Better than what? A launch title on a freshly launched console? Absolute numbers matter here. Mario sells over it's life too(get away from that thanks button, Serebii) so it's not necessarily all that notable given the generally larger picture. That larger picture is that the Wii U has sold like shit, the PS4 has matched it in a day or two, and a title that launches with it in that day or two has met/beaten the sales of a title on a console with what I presume is similar numbers but a year after its launch. Launch hype and all that.

Knack is like the most generic 90s game, except super shiny. I can't imagine playing it if it weren't for the co-op, it would be otherwise unbearable.

If it were I doubt it'd have been able to chart? I've seen/heard mention of it before, I can't for the life of me recall what it is. I feel like a quirky darkish(with torches) sort of adventure but really I'm just going off the poorest memory I have of E3.

Sony has sold over 2 million PS4s already.

 

PlayStation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units worldwide, Sony has announced.

 

PlayStation 4 launched in North America on 15th November and sold one million units within 24 hours. The console launched in Europe and Latin America on Friday, 29th November, and has added even more to the grand total, including around 250,000 in the UK. In total PS4 is available in 32 countries.

 

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House said: "It's an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn't have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence.

 

"The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

Sony has indicated to investors that it expects to sell three million PS4 units worldwide by the end of 2013, and five million by the end of its 2014 financial year.

Could well of done. All depends on the what was shipped really. If MS had more consoles on the shelves then it is possible they had a better BF weekend.

 

I would of expected a PR release from Nintendo in regard to BF sales. I expect the 3DS/2DS to of done well but Wii U could be bad.

Wii U did better than I expected (was expecting it to fall, but it actually rose by quite a bit! - it's almost equal to the GCN's equivalent week on its second Xmas!)

 

SM3DW fell harder than I expected though, but Wii Party U and NSMBU did better than I would've thought.

Hi! Long time lurker of N-europe here.. Saw some comments and i just felt I HAD to join in

 

As a Nintendo fan I'm sad about the Wii U doing so poorly.. However, i have yet to see one commercial on TV for it.. To nintendo's defense, i only watch tv about 3 hours a day Seen plenty about PS4 (this is FOR the players!). and here you can't even buy it until next year cuz its sold out.

As a matter of fact, my mothers boyfriend just asked me the other day "when is nintendo releasing their next gen console?". And he isn't the first or the last to ask me that..

 

People DON'T know Wii U exists. We dont have any game stores in alot of towns in sweden and the TV stores hardly show off any Wii U consoles..

 

I have a bad feeling nintendo might not make it to GCN sales this generation

Mario showing some nice traction, was honestly expecting it to bomb but being wrong is never a bad thing when you underestimate sales!

 

I've noticed that Sony currently marginally dominates the software sales, it'll be interesting to see how Bravely Default For the Sequel and Attack on Titan games do and to see whether Nintendo regains the software advantage (though to be honest, I'm only counting placements here, not unit numbers because I'm lazy as fuck)

Other notes of interest:

 

• Sales are down 421,937 hardware units in the US this year.
  
• Super Mario 3D World puts up another 144,709 in the US, bringing the US total to 387,902.
  
• Around 100,000 (+/-20K) of the Wii U sales in the US are from the NSMBU/NSLU bundle.
  
• This is the most the Wii U has sold worldwide since the week ending Dec 22nd 2012.
  
• Wii U lifetime sales are now at 4,366,262. Wii U WW sales are expected (well I expect it anyway) to rise (after a one week fall) as it get closer to Dec 25th, for a total of around 5.5 million Wii U's sold by the end of the 2013 sales year.
  
• For comparisons sake, the PS3 put up 157,949 units in the US on it's first non-launch black friday, while the 360 put up 240,843. So the Wii U's first non launch black friday--at 188,493--is in between those two.

The end of the fiscal year is the end of March I believe and that 5.5 million is what's the predicted total. That's absolutely miles off what Nintendo's forecast was.
