Radio 2 ftw because the stuff they talk about makes for good listening (head to headlines is always hilarious) and the music they do play is usually old stuff. He kept alternating between Radio 1, which played rubbish modern music and had other really annoying stuff (Car Park Catchphrase); and Radio 2, which played the odd decent song but also had unbearably stupid discussions/debates on it. Dan_Dare Posted August 9, 2011 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Radio 6 is just marvelous, the presenters actually seem to know and care about music and the music itself is varied, fresh and doesn't make you want to commit suicide by swallowing a frisbee and waiting for it unfold itself inside your intestine. You know what's underrated? Radio 3. I enjoy classical but their late night "Jazz on 3" segment is required listening and it's always the good stuff, trippy honky-tonk all over rhythms that feel like your clothes could jive right off your body. Decided to tune into 6 music as I don't often enough, to hear my beloved Hit by Sugarcubes, and now Bjork being interviewed. zing! Last night I tuned in for some pretty out there instrumental folk prog (!?) shortly before a documentary on The Sex Pistols. It's an amazing station- their daytime weekday stuff is miles better than any other station I've ever heard and that's before you even get to the evening and weekend material: every minute of which is invigoratingly wide ranging, educational and hugely invested in the culture of great popular music and its history. I generally share your sentiment, but it’s really a question of finding the right radio station for you. They are out there. I've tried, there aren't any in my area. I used to like Q but that seems to have gone slowly downhill over the past few years. I also can't get that in the car anyway. I agree with much here. The radio is going shitty. That's your problem right there, if you're not looking for conversation, try another station. I'd been flicking through them to no avail and just left that on. I don't listen to the radio. I currently have cassette albums of Fly by Dixie Chicks, Introspective by Pet Shop Boys, All Saints by All Saints and Raindancing by Alison Moyet. Retro. Uncoolisthenewcool. You need to get yourself one of these bad boys. The signal it gives out is fantastic, I never get any interference from real stations at all. If I'm feeling particularly rebellious whilst stuck in the rush hour traffic I'll put it on 102.5 which is Clyde 1, the most popular station in Glasgow. Rather hefty price at £50 but its fantastic. Charges my phone, handles calls for me (pausing music whilst answering on bluetooth) and plays my music in fantastic quality. Also the pluralisation of 'sport' is a bit of a laugh. Its 98% football, 2% tokenism. The only station in which you will be hired in spite of being a raging sexist. A station in which a bunch of old men sitting around arguing is considered quality entertainment. Where people mindlessly argue by simply stating facts (such as "we beat you at home for 4 year in a row back in 1997") or rehashing past matches. And the strange thing is of the people I know who listen to it regularly most disagree with the majority of it. WHY BOTHER!? None of the soul or life or...anything the original conveys, but it's also not a cover that takes a song in a different direction. Her vocal quirks/idiosyncrasies are out in force here, and really don't work with the song. I keep imagining a comedian making fun of someone her like her by singing in that voice. It makes me think she probably has good taste in music to choose to cover it, though. The original. Song of life. I don't remember hearing a particularly good Bjork cover, ever. Sounds like they're messing about with sounds over the existing track. Radiohead covering Unravel is nice, actually. Heard Bon Iver cover Who Is It too recently, not in HQ though, so hard to judge.
