Retro_Link Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) I may be about to break ur heart.... But u r correct, it's just a zone from each 'main' sonic game. Is this game pretty short then? How's it structured? Because Sonic Colours you had 7 Worlds or something with 7 zones in each (most of a decent length)... is this just 10 Zones or something in total!!!? Shorty Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 That's pretty disappointing. In fact, if I had looked into that instead of trying to avoid spoilers of which zones appeared, I probably wouldn't have bought it. It's a great fun game, but I really would've liked to have played a few more levels. These aren't even the best levels in Sonic 1, 2 or S&K. I would've rather seen Starlight Zone, Hill Top Zone, Casino Night Zone, Metropolis Zone, Lava Reef Zone... :/

Helmsly Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I wouldn't be surprised if they release more levels as DLC in the future.
S.C.G Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The amount of stages isn't so bad when you consider that there are five red rings for both classic and modern Sonic to collect on the main run and then five challenge areas per stage - again for both classic and modern Sonic - each of which feature either their own layout/new way to play. So over nine main levels that'd be ninety red rings plus ninety challeneges plus a few more if there is an extra zone at the end - I haven't got that far yet - personally I think I'm enjoying it more because I refuse to move on to the next stage until getting all red rings and then when that's done I refuse to move onto the boss until I've completed all the challenges so it feels like it's lasting me longer. Each to their own though but personally I feel that this is one of the best Sonic titles made within the past decade matched only by Sonic Colours.
Serebii Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Gotta get 4 more Red Rings until I'm done I also have to S Rank one more level until I'm done (S Ranking Challenges not withstanding...just trying to get achievements here at the moment, then I can try the S Rank of Challenges) Both in Planet Wisp (Modern). Hate that level
Debug Mode Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Going through the challenges and red rings tomorrow.. Those red rings are going to be a pain in the ass as some of the levels are just so fucking huge. May have to consult a guide.. And then there's defeating the final boss without being hit D=
LegoMan1031 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) I completed the main run through of levels few days ago (loved it), story was even weaker than in other sonics, missed the humour that sonic colours had although there was still a few bits which made me laugh, the Dr Robotnik joke made me laugh for example. Trying to finish off on Batman: Arkham City before I come back to this to continue! Is this game pretty short then? How's it structured? @S\.C\.G Covered some of the points relating to extra stuff on the game but basically it's structured like 3 levels (mega drive) then boss, 3 levels (dreamcast/cube/ps2) then boss and then 3 levels (360/ps3/wii) boss. Each level has challenges relating to that level and to do finish boss you need all the chaos emeralds (but you get most of them by just playing, it's just three that you get by beating a different 'rival') Oh and to do the boss for each 'bit' you needed to do at least one challenge per level to unlock the boss key. Shorty Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I'm pretty sure they said from the start that it would have one zone from each main game. There was nothing from Sonic 3, Sonic CD, Sonic Advance or Sonic Rush. Tbh, 9 zones just isn't enough for a game like this. Super Mario Galaxy has about 40 galaxies, as a basic comparison...
Serebii Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 There, 1000/1000 Gamerscore for Sonic Generations Wish it were longer...I rarely S Rank Sonic stuff too and I managed to do this easily

Super Mario Galaxy has about 40 galaxies, as a basic comparison... Sky Sanctuary could, kind of be classed as Sonic 3. Sonic CD had the boss fight (I know it's not quite the same). Advance and Rush I don't care about since I don't remember any of the levels anyway. Not that I'm saying there shouldn't be more levels or anything.
MindFreak Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Had a go at the demo today. It seems okay so the game goes on my wish list for Christmas. Won't be too bothered if I don't get it, I might pick it up myself when the price falls. Still have to complete Sonic Colours at some time.
S.C.G Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Completed the game and got every S-Rank along the way for all challenges. Shouldn't be too bad getting 1000g in this... I really enjoyed the game overall including the final boss battle once I figured out what you actually have to do. They should definitely make more Sonic games based off the template of this title but with even more zones.
Debug Mode Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Noticed Dyson had yet again stole my record on Green Hills 30 second trial.. Needless to say I wasn't fucking having any of that! ...You can keep Act 2's record if you're reading this =P
Shorty Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) What's your score? I managed 990.0 I think it's broken though :/ I just got further than that but it said 974.1 Edit: best I can tell, there's a bit of a bug where it sometimes doesn't mark your last moment if you're not on very solid footing. Anyway, managed to get 1036.4 Edited November 9, 2011 by Shorty
nekunando Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I played this for a couple of hours tonight with my friends and.. I'm not really feeling the love
S.C.G Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I played this for a couple of hours tonight with my friends and.. I'm not really feeling the love Buy it/borrow it and play it for a day... then you'll feel the love. Oh yeah, I got my 1000G on it now too.

My brother has it so we were playing it tonight and will likely have a go at clearing it next time (minus all the extra challenges ) It's certainly not bad but there's something missing for me and I'm not getting a great deal of satisfaction from it Hopefully that will change but I'm not particularly bothered either way
Josh64 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I can't believe a lot of the negativity in this thread, this is by far one of my favourite Sonic games, perhaps only being beaten by Colours. I've nearly finished the main story mode, got kinda side-tracked getting S ranks on previous levels and such. I love the modern versions of past games but I've never been a big fan of 2D sonic games (the lack of a homing attack really infuriates me but I've been told I can unlock that for 2D sonic!) so those levels drag out for me. The highlight so far has to be Act 2 of Rooftop Run - Such an epic level. I also loved the start of Planet Wisp Act 2 until it turned into the worst Sonic level ever concieved.

Anyway, managed to get 1036.4 Funny you say 974.1, I had exactly the same score! But yeah, it seems to use the last post you were on solid ground if you finish in the air (which makes sense as it lays down posts on that piece of ground, can't have that shit in the sky!). My score for Green Hill Act 1 is currently at 1103.2, I got very lucky with a jump and managed to fly straight pass the two bees on the high route you can take from the swings and landed upside down on the loop that follows. So presumably my post is there upside down, but I can't verify that as it was a massive fluke.
flameboy Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I'm really not sure about the whole structure of this game. I think I would have preferred more levels over this S ranking of challenges for replayability, just I can't imagine myself S ranking harder levels/challenges. I would have much rather had more levels than there are. Also why is Tails not playable as a partner in Classic Sonic? He is such a huge part of things for me and the nostalgia of that era of games.... Despite these "complaints" still really want the game.
Shorty Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 The last boss was a bit poo, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the self-parody banter that's been in the series since Colours. The mention of Robotnik and where all the gold rings go made me smile. Also unlocking Super Sonic to play in 3D levels, awesome! Has that ever been done before? Has anyone else noticed music from Sonic R and Sonic 3D (amongst others) during challenges? At least they made an appearance in some form
Cube Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Yup, I cheered when I realised a new version of Super Sonic Racing was playing. Speaking of the dialogue, did anyone else find it odd that near the start, the two previous adventures they mentioned were entering a book to save a genie and saving aliens from a space theme park, considering what console both games were on?

Yeah I'm LOVING all the tracks I keep unlocking, as I am going through the challenges or replaying levels I am changing the tracks. It's great how most of them seem to have been 'updated' slightly, Sonic Spinball's toxic cave brought back some memories! Unlocking the sonic heroes theme before, laughed out loud coz when I was younger I used to sing it to my gf to piss her off! haha. Speaking of the dialogue, did anyone else find it odd that near the start, the two previous adventures they mentioned were entering a book to save a genie and saving aliens from a space theme park, considering what console both games were on? I didn't really give it a second thought. What surprised me was that they made a reference to a previous game, and showing that this story happens after Sonic Colours as normally we just 'assume' each game happens after each other. Although now you mention it I can see your point, since it's multi platform they could have mentioned Colours and maybe Unleashed, since Unleashed was on all? Would have been funny if in that scene he made a joke reference to being a Werehog!
