Dante Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Details: Many gamers may remember the first Prey game which was a very strong title during the Xbox 360’s first year. It seems that Human Head Studios has been working on the sequel to the first game during the past three years. In a recent interview with the studio, GameReactor reports that the gameplay is influenced by Mirror’s Edge, Mass Effect, Riddick and Blade Runner. The game will take on an open world sandbox approach allowing players to go wherever they want. Also, the game will apparently take place on the planet ‘Exodus’ that will feature large scale cities, caves, woods and desert levels. The main character from the first game, Domasi Tawodi will not be in the sequel, but will be replaced by a Sheriff/prison guard, Killian Samuels. The main character from the first game had special skills due to his Native American background allowing him to travel in spirit form. I am curious to see if Human Head will give Killian some sort of similar ability. The developer also revealed that Killian will be able to run, jump and climb similarly to Faith in Mirror’s Edge. There will even be cover system similar to Killzone. Prey 2 will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime in 2012.
jayseven Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Do want. Prey was an imperfect game for sure, but worth the minimum monies!
Shorty Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Do want. Prey was an imperfect game for sure, but worth the minimum monies! But this is a game where you play as a free-running assassin in the aliens' world. Sounds like it will hardly bear any semblance to its predecessor.
jayseven Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm willing to bet it will have similar narrative and tone!
Nolan Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm willing to bet it will be like Prey, completely bland boring and below average.
James McGeachie Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Are people basing negative reaction SOLELY on the first game, or does this by concept not sound interesting to people? In a recent interview with the studio, GameReactor reports that the gameplay is influenced by Mirror’s Edge, Mass Effect, Riddick and Blade Runner. The game will take on an open world sandbox approach allowing players to go wherever they want. Conceptually, to me, going in a heavy sci-fi direction and incorporating free-running elements sounds like a pretty awesome combination, especially if we can assume that stuff like the gravity puzzles from the game (which basically ARE Prey) will return. Like, lets say I have to stealthily assasinate some guy by free running around an awesome sci fi city and snipe him by standing upside down underneath a platform. Okay, I just assumed the game will have stuff like that, but hey, the description has my imagination going. I guess people don't have an awful lot of reason to trust HHS and the character image is hardly inspiring, but it's never a great idea to write off a sequel, especially one that's actually making a large departure, simply on the original game...especially seeing as the game came out nearly 5 years ago. Nolan Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Conceptually it does sound....interesting. Though I'm foreseeing the Mr. Potato head of games, as put together by a 20 year old. All the right parts but in the wrong places/amounts. I don't have much faith in HHS, no but I won't let that completely cloud my judgment. I don't have faith in SE to make a Final Fantasy game I'll love, but that doesn't mean they don't still make good games. I think it sounds like HHS is trying to cram too much from too many sources into one openworld game.
Dante Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Prey 2 Won't Have Portals Prey 2 will get rid of the Portal-predating portals that defined the original game. But why? Developers Human Head explain. “We explored a lot of the ways you could use portals and gravity in combat, and I really wanted to shift away from making it too much of a puzzle game,” lead designer Chris Reinhart told the latest issue of PSM3. “Portals and gravity were the functions of The Sphere [the mothership in the original game]. And The Sphere’s gone.” In the last two weeks, the first juicy details of Prey 2 have dribbled and oozed out towards us. Read all our Prey 2 news coverage here. Prey 2 is due for release next year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
drahkon Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 “We explored a lot of the ways you could use portals and gravity in combat, and I really wanted to shift away from making it too much of a puzzle game,” Such an incredible idea.
Cube Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 "We started making this game too awesome. So we've removed the awesome bits."
James McGeachie Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Okay well that kind of sucks. Maybe they feel they can't outdo Portal now and wont even try. It was still Prey though that first impressed me by allowing me to follow myself around a dimensional loop.
S.C.G Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 ^ True... I think the problem was that while Prey kinda did the Portal thing first, it didn't really do it in an inspiring way and so it eventually was forgotten about... ... then Portal came along and did things in style and well... the rest is history. Suffice to say I'm more looking forward to Portal 2 than this.
Dan_Dare Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 the thing with the portals in prey was that they were really just doors. It wasn't like in Portal where they had cool physics properties etc. Looked nice though, and made the ship feel more alien, which was a plus.
Happenstance Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Prey 2 cancelled - report Promising FPS sequel Prey 2 has been cancelled by publisher Bethesda, according to an inside source. As spotted by a NeoGAF poster, Dutch site PS Focus claims to have intel that the plug has been pulled on developer Human Head's title, and that an official announcement will come next week. The fact that a Prey 2 presentation scheduled for GDC in San Francisco earlier this month was cancelled a few weeks before the show got underway adds some weight to the report. "Yes, Zenimax forced us to pull all Prey 2 related talks from GDC. I'm pretty devastated by the news. This was to be my first conf talk," Tweeted Human Head lead programmer Brian Karis at the time. Bethesda has so far declined to comment - we'll update if that changes. For more on the game, which was one of the highlights of E3 2011, see Eurogamer's Prey 2 preview. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-23-prey-2-cancelled-report
The Bard Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Truly hope this isn't cancelled, from the presentations given, it looked like one of the best games due this year. Then again, you never know the full extent of the problems with a game until it's out, and I suppose the publisher probably has a better idea. Still, if this turns out to be true; such a fucking bummer.
flameboy Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I'm actually really gutted if this turns out to be true it looks so awesome for the presentation and trailer
The Bard Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Jesus, what is that weapon he's using? Enemies just erupt into a crimson mist, it's fucking incredible. There's no way this thing is cancelled, too many people were excited for it. I mean, Bethesda didn't cancel RAGE, which was a total disaster with a dearth of hype before it came out, so I don't see why they would approach it that way.
flameboy Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled, but its release has been delayed beyond 2012, said Bethesda in a statement today. "The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards" reads the statement. "Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule." Prey 2 enjoyed a very positive reception when it was shown at E3 and GamesCom last year, but whisperings of trouble development trouble recently led to rumours that it may have been cancelled. This official statement refutes those claims. This means we might not see more of Prey 2 for some time yet, though it's still quite possible that the game will make an appearance at E3 2012 in June. You can read IGN's latest preview right here. hmmmmmmmmmmmm....this from the company who published Fallout 3 and Skyrim in bug ridden states. Unless they mean quality in terms of the actual game.
The Bard Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Yes, the thing is, I don't think Bethesda were aware of how bug ridden Fallout and Skyrim were, simply because even a substantial QA team of 40 people wouldn't have been able to put in the amount of time, and had the diversity of play styles that the game's eventual 6 million strong audience would have been able to, and thus there would just have been a lot of problems that weren't uncovered until you got the game in people's hands. Any game as systemic as the stuff Bethesda puts out is going to be host to some issues.

Fallout: New Vegas had a bug that was the stuff of nightmares right at the beginning of the game: And I think the ps3 glitch for Skyrim is all I need to say about that game.
The Bard Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 That bug is amazing. Also, the very nature of Fallout means it's going to be riddled with bugs, unlike what is presumably a more confined, linear experience in the vein of Prey 2. They probably excised as many as they possibly could have within the confines of their budget/ ETA for the game. I can't say that I ever encountered that bug, and I started that game twice on PC.

I understand what you mean but damn. That bug is right at the beginning of the game and is freaking scary. How could that one be missed out.
The Bard Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Looks like the game may be in more trouble than thought
