Daft Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 George Lucas reportedly creating Star Wars sequel trilogy (that's not about the Skywalkers) George Lucas is plotting to create new Star Wars movies at the ultra top-secret Skywalker Ranch. This is deja vu of the mid '90s when Uncle George start[ed] tweaking the Holy Trilogy to gear up for the Special Editions. [...] These new film will have nothing to do with the live action television series currently in development. That show already has over 50 scripts ready to go and plenty of pre-production time and money has been spent on artwork and storyboards. Once that show goes into production, Lucasfilm hopes to be able to produce at least 100 episodes since that is the threshold for syndication in the United States[...Fans] can expect the new trilogy after the entire saga is released in 3D which is expected to be complete around 2015 or 2016. Also, the film is reported to debut 24 months after the 3Ding of Return of the Jedi, and the next three episodes (which could be episodes 7-9 or 10-12) are said to "occur as far as 100 years or 1,000 years in the Star Wars universe future." Furthermore, the IESB source claims that the movie will not focus on the Skywalker clan. I say go for it. It can't be as awful as the prequel trilogy.
Will Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I really hope he does do it, something set a little ahead would pretty much give them a fresh canvass to work with. I'd love to see what he sees as the future of that universe. Can't wait!

But yeah a blank canvass would be good, and I'm certainly pro for the films could be awesomez/not sure where I'm going with this post now so am going to stop typ
Daft Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 I'd rather have George Lucas just green light this and then kept (in a galaxy) far far away from it.

True. At least I read on the Star Wars Wiki that Palpatine had many fingers in more pies than I thought possible. I say go for it. It can't be as awful as the prequel trilogy. Despite the fact that they weren't that bad, don't challenge him.
The Peeps Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I'd rather see the sequels released before whole saga (so far) in 3D. I'm going to remain optimistic about the sequels as I just love the star wars universe and the films. If it's going to be set in the very distant future (of the star wars universe) then it'd make sense to make them episodes 10-12 but then everyone would expect 7 and 8 to be made. 9 won't be made because we all know that 7 8 9.
ReZourceman Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) What is a live action TV series?... Not a cartoon, ie real life. One that is filmed, not animated. Wallace and Gromit is filmed but animated. :p Edited October 23, 2010 by ReZourceman Automerged Doublepost
Daft Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 W&G is totally live action. Because they are real.

I guess all of the writers stick to some agreed things but does George give any of them an official stamp? I think the future of that world is far better coming from the original source rather than other writers.

Or I believe there is an accepted "Official future" type thing.
Mundi Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) I'd rather have George Lucas just green light this and then kept (in a galaxy) far far away from it. I hope the production will be more like on the original saga. Where people actually told him that some of the stuff in it was absolutely stupid and it was changed/cut out, instead of just letting it slide and bla bla bla. Edited October 23, 2010 by Mundi

G-canon is the films and everything by George Lucas himself and is thus the highest form of canon. Then there are sublevels of canon in descending order, ending with fanon, i.e. non-endorsed fan works.
Will Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Blimey that's a bit complex! I'm guessing all of the films and tv series are the top level? As is this new live action one? (any good links for that? I know nothing about it.). Are the books a lower level? The whole thing is far too confusing.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I don't remember the exact details. I'd advice those interested to look it up on Wookieepedia.
Serebii Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Could have sworn that I previously read that the live action series got canned
ReZourceman Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Could have sworn that I previously read that the live action series got canned You're not crazy, I had too.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I found the article. It's quite comprehensive. The levels of canon I mentioned are about 3/4 down the page.
Serebii Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 He should really just let it go though. He has demonstrated in the past decade that his writing skills are subpar in comparison to most of the other writers these days.
Tellyn Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Could have sworn that I previously read that the live action series got canned It's definitely just on hold, they've written loads of scripts for it, something ridiculous like 100 hours worth.
Ganepark32 Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 If I'm honest, I'm surprised it's taken this long to consider making another trilogy. Afterall, there was supposedly story in place to do episodes 7 through 9 years ago. I'd personally rather see them tackle the Old Republic area of the Star Wars timeline as there's plenty story there to make a great movie. But then, there's plenty story after Return of the Jedi as well (sure I've seen something about some Crimson Empire or something in relation to the events post-RotJ) so who knows.
Konfucius Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 I'm really looking forward to sequels. It would be really nice to know how things work out for the Jedi after Ep 6.
Ashley Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Am I the only one who expects at the end of 7 there will be a "shock twist" whereby one of them is actually a Skywalker?
Cube Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 There will be an extremely awesome guy in armour, who kicks arse throughout the whole trilogy and at the end of the last on he will remove his helmet and it will be....Jar Jar Binks!
