Hero-of-Time Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Just got back from watching the Doom movie and it wasnt half bad. It was a decent popcorn flick and worth a watch before Narnia and King Kong come out. The Rock is awesome in it hes such a hard as nails character in the movie. Anyone else seen it yet?
ViPeR Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I wanted to but apparently it wasn't 'big enough' for my local cinema. DVD it is.
CVD Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I'll watch it next week, anything The Rock is in, I have to watch.
Aimless Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Just got back from watching the Doom movie and it wasnt half bad. You're right, it isn't half bad. Weirdly, the movie is somewhat over-plotted for what it is. Not that it isn't riddled with more holes than the extras and adorned with an unhealthy amount of cheese. But let's face it, Doom was never going to spawn a good movie as it's all about being there behind the monitor, not watching gun-porn starring The Rock. It's got quite a few nods to the game, which I suppose is a good thing. I just wish there could be a good game-based movie that paid fealty to its origins; my hopes rest on 'Silent Hill'.
Shorty Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I found it increibly uninteresting with too many things trying to draw a crowd as opposed to pleasing the core DOOM audience. The hoverage of the BFG had to be the greatest part there. If they tried to please the core audience instead of the large audience, that would be bad business and they would lose money....
Hero-of-Time Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 I'll watch it next week, anything The Rock is in, I have to watch. Good man Im not alone......
elniro Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I'll watch it next week, anything The Rock is in, I have to watch. word to that
Guest Jordan Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 It's alright, the plot is fairly stupid but the action is fun. And the "FPS" bit is plain stupid, infact it gave me a headache...
Dan_Dare Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 heh you sound like my mum. the new 3d weather map gives her motion sickness, apparently.
Bren Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 like i said in the original thread :P http://www.revo-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2024&highlight=Doom its shite, waste of gud movie money.
gaggle64 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I saw it last night. The action was pretty decent, the plot was just stupid. All that crap about cromosone 24 and the good/evil gene and that stupid sub-plot about the guys family dying in pot-holing incident. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? It was sorta OK overall. The BFG was a bit dissapointing somehow. Did we ever actually get to see anything get killed by it?
Guest Jordan Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 heh you sound like my mum. the new 3d weather map gives her motion sickness, apparently. Now thats strange. I think it was due to the fact i was watching on a 30 foot cinema screen? :P
Bowser57 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Now thats strange. I think it was due to the fact i was watching on a 30 foot cinema screen? :P Even stranger still, it appears you paid money to watch something. Haha! I kid.
Noodleman Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Even stranger still, it appears you paid money to watch something. Haha! I kid. BURN damn character limit
The3rdChildren Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 It's alright, the plot is fairly stupid but the action is fun. And the "FPS" bit is plain stupid, infact it gave me a headache... Could this be because you were watching the movie as a blurry avi file? [Edit] Bastard, Bowser. You beat me as always. I should have read the rest before hastily posting my smartassed reply. I'll be in the corner hanging out with Blackfox.
Guest Jordan Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Now now Guy and Dan, i did actually go out to see it thank you... then i warez it. Mwhhwahahhaah.
cheets Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 shocking to see that warze is taken lightly on here now.
Guest Jordan Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I only said i have it, not where i got it from. Cheets, it's not like you don't warez anything
Nevahom Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Why did they have to bastardize the plot so much? to me, hell was a large part of the doom series (in providing the cannon fodder). Its always with the testing and growing and the escaping and the screaming and so on. I think the owners of resident evil should sue their ass for attempting to rationalise Doom by using a previous plotline BUT on another planet, whats wrong with finding out that an alternate reality that exists in the for m of pure evil and chaos? damn good viewing id say. so to me, its only similar by name.
Blackfox Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 [Edit] Bastard, Bowser. You beat me as always. I should have read the rest before hastily posting my smartassed reply. I'll be in the corner hanging out with Blackfox.
gaggle64 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Heres what the plot should have been - Some scientists on a research facility on Mars have opened up a portal to hell. After losing contact with the facility, a group of marines are sent to investigate. They quickly decide to blow the entire installation. Que an hour and 27mins of blood, guts, gore and crazy mecha-demons. Would that have been so hard?

When i saw the chromosome part i laughed because whn you have a extra or missing the 21 chromosome you have mongolism bu i confused it with 24 so for me all the monsters were mongoloids to me :P

Liquid_Vegeta Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Saw it last night thought it was a nice brainless action flick, which is what it needed to be, you guys out there talking about an over complicated plot must be damn hell simpletons, that plot was paper thin and didnt even try to take precedence of the action. As cheesy as it was I liked the first person sequence and thought the Rock did a great job of just being a hard as nails bastard.

As cheesy as it was I liked the first person sequence and thought the Rock did a great job of just being a hard as nails bastard. You misunderstand. The plot wasn't too complicated for us. The plot was too complicated for Doom. It was also rubbish, and quite frankly just wasted everybody's time. Cut all the shit about the guys dead family and all the chromosone rubbish, and the film would be a good half-hour shorter at least. Say this out loud - "In the Doom movie, there is a subplot about someones family dying in a freak mining accident." See what I mean? EDIT - Also, I would like to add that I was very dissapointed at the amount of gore. There was a few blood spats and a few organs here and there, but not nearly enough. If I was the director, I would have fish guts on tap.
