ep 3! Awesomez. Five years ago, if someone had said that there would be an episode entirely devoid of Jack or Kate I would neeever have believed them, and voila!

Good tiems.

So, liek, zomg it's widmore. Brilliant. Who's the blonde lady in the Others? That woman with white hair? Is that woman faraday's mother? Just how old IS alpert? :P Does anyone remember Alpert visiting Locke as a young 'un? As I think I do, but I'm not sure. What else? Urm... Dunno. But I'm finding the on-the-island stuff very interesting to watch. I wonder when they'll go to the future...

Yeah, you're right, I think it was in season 4 that Alpert visited Locke. He showed him a bunch of items, one of which was the compass that Locke gave Alpert, but Locke didn't pick it up so Alpert thought he didn't have the right abilites to be a leader.

The blonde girl with the gun is called Ellie, the white haired woman is Eloise Hawking so it's almost certain they're the same people. She is most likely Faraday's mother too. There's some theories going around that Widmore is Faraday's father also, but that one is definately a wait and see.

I really like this new system though, it's a gimmick that allows them to do an awful lot of material on the history of the island without it seeming out of context.

Dunno who blonde haired Other was, alls I know is she was damn cute. Who's the woman with white hair you are talking about?

No Jack and Kate = woot, lots and lots of Daniel = woot woot!

I wonder what happens with Widmore on the island for him to come to the conclusion that it's "his" island.

Alpert definately visits Locke as a kid. Probably went round everyone he could find called John Locke who was born around the right time. Still dunno what the "test" with the knife and stuff was all about. Also I'm betting Alpert has some connection to the island, like he's been there since the beginning or something. The Jesus to Jacob's God or something like that.

Wasn't Eloise the name of Daniels rat?

Alpert visit Locke as a bady, a kid and as a teen in Cabin Fever.

I cant tell you the blonde lady is but Daniel knows who the woman is.

The white hair woman was Daniels live human subject, which Charles Widmore funded Faraday's research and financially provides for her care.

Five-year-old John is playing backgammon in a living room when his foster sister Melissa rudely knocks the pieces off the board, taunting him. His foster mother Florence scolds her before telling John that there is a man there to see him, and that he should be on his best behavior. Richard Alpert walks in the house and sits down at the table across from him. He introduces himself as Richard and tells John that he runs a school for special children and has reason to believe that John is one of them. Richard asks John if he minds if Richard shows him a couple of neat things, to which John shakes his head (indicating he does not mind). Richard notices a drawing on the wall of the room of a man lying on the ground while a mass of black springs from the ground and hangs over him, resembling an attack by the smoke monster. When asked by Richard if he drew the picture, John nods his head. The two walk to another table and sit down. Richard tells John that he wants him to look at a few objects, think about them, and tell him which of them are his. The boy thinks Richard means "to keep" but Alpert clarifies, "Which of these things belong to you already?" He lays out on the table a baseball glove, a book entitled "Book of Laws" (possibly referring to the holy text of the Bahá'í faith), a small container of granules, a compass, a comic book entitled "Mystery Tales", and a knife. John immediately claims the container of the granules and inspects and claims the compass. John starts towards the "Book of Laws", at which point Richard looks hopeful. Instead, he picks up the knife, to which Richard seems disappointed and angry. He asks John if he is sure, and after he nods affirmatively, Richard snatches the knife from his hand and takes the other items away. He puts these back into his bag and stands up quickly. Florence enters the room and asks how John did. Richard responds sternly that John is not quite ready for his school and walks out of the house. Florence scolds John, asking what he did wrong, as he looks down dejectedly.

Finally got to watch 1&2...loves it. The mix between tension and humour was excellent. Plus, topless sawyer; won't say no to that. Faraday is also kind of sexy and awesome. *Enough perving*. Ep 3 on sunday, yeeeah.

Yeah, it wasn't a great episode in my opinion. Only one intriguing revelation really, the rest was all a bit slow. Still good, dont get me wrong, just not one of the "oh my god!" episodes.

Do have a question for some people

Why does everyone keep wanting every episode to have "answers" to everything...I don't get it. Why can't people live with mystery? I see in other forums people bitching about an episode because it didnt provide answers and even the voice overs on sky say for some episodes "this episode provides answers but asks questions". I mean wtf

Coming from a sci-fi background, I guess I'm used to mystery but I just don't get the thinking behind it

Recently though I have been able to guess things accurately...

such as the name of Desmond's kid and I've predicted who Daniel's mother is...but then again I bet everyones come to that conclusion by now...Ms. Hawking.

I'm also guessing that she's the british other on the island in the past called Ellie, short for Eloise, the name of Daniel's rat in The Constant and apparently Ms. Hawking's name

Makes sense to me :p

Yeah, reading up on finding hidden things in Lost spoils the whole purpose of watching. What's the best that can happen from reading this stuff? You find out what's going to / might happen... and have it spoiled for you.

I dont mind reading stuff about an episode i just watched, because its easy to miss things etc. Speculation discussions about what will happen can be okay too, but i try to avoid them unless its just casual conversation at work.

Best episode of the season so far and it's only the 4th! Man the ending just kicked ass.

I knew once the time travel stuff started happening they'd fit in the stuff with Rousseau. Combining that with Jin! I seriously had accepted he was dead. So glad he isn't. Maybe we'll finally find out why Rousseau turned on her team and killed them all.

JIN IS ALIVE!!! WOOO! EDIT I thought the frenchies came on the island like 30-40 years ago. Why are they wearing hoodies and why do they have a new-lookin life raft

I rewatched season 1 and...

Rousseau had only been there about 16 years. I like the little nod to the transmission repeating the numbers on the French dudes walkie.

Sea:

ROBERT: Mais je t'ai dit, on aurait dû jamais suivre ces maudits chiffres ! (I told you so! We never should have followed those damn numbers!)

MONTAND: Mais c'est pas ma faute, Robert. Brennan devait tenir le sonar! (It's not my fault, Robert. Brennan was in charge of the sonar!)

BRENNAN: Mais je le faisais, Montand! Je vous l'ai déja dit, les instruments ont mal fonctionné! (I was watching, Montand! I told you already, the instruments malfunctioned!)

ROUSSEAU: Un homme à la mer! (Man overboard!)

(Man) Quoi? (What?)

Mais je pensais qu'on était tous là! (I thought we were all there!)

On est tous là ! Il est pas des nôtres. Alors qui est-ce? (We ARE all here! He's not one of us. So who is it?)

(Shouting in French)

Pagaie! Pagayez! Allez (Paddle! Paddle! Come on!)

"pointez la lampe de poche sur lui" (focus the light on him) "il faut tenir la lampe torche" (We have to hold the light)

"Brennan, aidez à pagayer" (brennan, help paddling)

"Allez dépêchez-vous ! Nous dérivons avec le courant" (come on! hurry up! we are moving with the stream)

"Non, y'a que lui ! Pas de bateau, rien" (no.. There's only him! no boat! nothing!)

"Les vagues vont nous amener jusque sur la côte" (the waves will bring us to the coast)

"le vent ( ??) par ici" (the wind ( ??) over here)

"Oh nom de dieu Brennan ! Ta gueule !" (for godsake brennan! shut up!)

"allez, tirez-le dans le radeau" (come on, bring him in the raft) "Aide moi" (help me) "Il est lourd !" (he’s heavy)

"Tiens, il respire encore" (He's still breathing)

(speaking in French continues)

Beach:

AUTOMATED VOICE OVER RADIO: 4... 8...

MONTAND: Robert... Regarde, le signal vient de l’ile. (look, the signal comes from the island)

ROBERT: Tu peux déterminer la source ? (can you find the source ?)

AUTOMATED VOICE OVER RADIO: 15... 16...

MONTAND: Bien sûr que oui. Regarde. (yes of course, look !)

ROBERT: Tu crois qu'l'île est habitée ? (do you think the island's inhabited ?)

(both speaking french)

ROUSSEAU: Ça va ? Comment tu te sens ? (how are you ? how are you feeling ?)

JIN: No understand.

ROUSSEAU: (French accent) You speak English?

JIN: (Panting) Little.

ROUSSEAU: Are you okay?

JIN: Yes.

ROUSSEAU: How did you get here?

JIN: Boat.

Robert surement : Qui est-ce? (who is he ?)

Montand : On s’en fout qui c'est. Qu’est ce qu’il fait ici ? (I don’t care who he is. What is he doing here ?)

ROUSSEAU: Il dit qu’il est venu en bateau. (he said he came by boat)

ROBERT: (French accent) What boat?

JIN: It's gone. Sink.

ROUSSEAU: It must've been caught in the same storm as ours.

MONTAND: Who are you? How long you in the water?

JIN: I don't know.

MONTAND: How do you not know how you wound up in the middle of the ocean, hein ?

ROUSSEAU: Montand ! Laisse-le, il est en état de choc. On a de l’eau à lui donner ? (leave him alone, he is shook up, do we have water for him ?)

Robert : Ouais. (yeah) (comes back with the water) Tiens. (Here)

ROUSSEAU: Merci, Robert. (thank you Robert)

()

JIN: (Exhales deeply) Thank you.

ROUSSEAU: What is your name?

JIN: Kwon Jin-su. Jin.

ROUSSEAU: Hello, Jin. I'm Danielle. Danielle Rousseau.

I don't see why people thought this was a better ep than e03 but hey! One thing not mentioned so far; when Faraday says to tha asian ghostwhisperer guy "you sure you've never been here before?" I thought "hmm! Maybe asian ghostwhisperer guy is the son of that doctor guy who does the initiation video thingums!"

I don't think the nosebleeds are the sickness that killed everyone, but the jin/rousseau thing is indeed interesting - she's met him (16 years later) so it's a conundrum. Thing is, surely Jin is also going to be experiencing the island time flux, so I doubt he'll be with them for too long. The indian airline water bottle is another perplexing element - the suggestion that they landed on the island relatively soon after the oceanic crew left/started jumping around in time. I think that might be crucial - we ought to hear more about that flight as the show develops; perhaps the oceanic 6 (plus Ben) will be on that flight? Was Ben just trying to get Aaron in order to convince kate to return with them to the island? And what of Sun? Is it windmore that sent her the pictures and the gun? Hum!

Whats wrong with it being good?

Because it's a wholly preposterous programme and I despise the head writers (Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindleof). They think they're too good to simply write science fiction, which is a genre that they write well. They have taken on interesting influences and have come up with some very decent sci-fi concepts, but their arrogance about the programme is astounding, I wish that they would just get on with it and not faff about soaking all up the attention they can muster.

It's an interesting programme, especially when its focus is with the science fiction aspects, but it has bred a fanbase of idiots who strive to theorise about every single aspect of the show, however banal it may be, which is a culture that is wrongly encouraged by Cuse and Lindleof. They're just making people look like fools.
