LazyBoy Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Top 10 FPSs A list made of severe fail in my opinion. 1. Doom instead of Doom3. 2. Half Life should be a lot higher 3. Halo lower, maybe 5 4. CoD lower 5. Perfect Dark at 2 6. Wolfenstein higher What do you think?
CoolFunkMan Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 The list is completely messed up tbh. Where's Unreal Tournament? Why is HL2 so low? CoD4 is brilliant, but probably shouldn't be there. Doom instead of Doom 3 would have been better. Where is perfect Dark? Halo needs to be lower... I could go on...
Domstercool Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Well this was more Screw Attacks opinion by Stuttering Craig, rather than a Gametrailers thing. I thought the list was interesting, but yeah, somethings are in the wrong places, but then it's all one guys opinion.
Cube Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 IMO, that list was pretty terrible. How can Perfect Dark not be on the list? Still. His opinion is pretty much voided by him mentioning that teabagging is a good thing (I'm pretty sure if other games had as many morons as Halo playing it then teabagging would have started a lot sooner). Also, sticky grenades pale in comparison to sticky remote mines. Edit: BioShock should have been higher up. Edit: Also, didn't Doom 3 get loads of rather poor reviews?
darksnowman Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 GoldenEye + proximity mines + bunker = legendary times! Dunno why Perfect Dark wasn't on it, but ScrewAttack tend to just have one game per franchise so maybe they left it out to include GoldenEye. These lists are to be taken with a pinch of salt anyway- especially the ScrewAttack ones. :p I'm glad they included Duke Nukem 3D on it. Whadda game!
Tyson Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 IMO, that list was pretty terrible. How can Perfect Dark not be on the list? Still. Doom 3 was a pretty terrible game as far as I'm concerned. I didn't play Doom 2, so the series could have changed then, but it just was as fast and fun as the original was. Could also be that it was basically the same as all the other Xbox FPS'.
McMad Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Bioshock, as a first person shooter, is poor so no it doesn't belong on that list. Doom 3 is terrible I don't know what the fuck Screwattack were smoking when they thought that giving it a place on that list would be a good idea. Nostalgia is nice but Wolfenstein is shit. Same goes for Goldeneye; the game is unplayable nowadays. Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004 should have been on the list. Oh and Half Life 2 should exchange places with Halo. This is all my opinion of course. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong about Goldeneye and how it is better than most modern FPSes. OFF TOPIC: What the hell happened to Handsome Tom?
Cube Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 This is all my opinion of course. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong about Goldeneye and how it is better than most modern FPSes. It isn't. GoldenEye has aged very badly. Perfect Dark, however, still plays extremely well today.
The Bard Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Right, Duke should not have been there and neither should have Wolfenstein. They play like utter shit nowadays. Were the blazes was F.E.A.R? Why was Halo so high? Goldeneye was amazing, but as a competitive FPS I wouldn't have thought it could hold it's own even against PC games that were out at the time... Why the hell was Doom 3 within 100 places of the top 10? Terrible list.
Mundi Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Bullshit. Everything else needed to be said has been.
Sheikah Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 "Hell the game was so dark you couldn't see shit." The guy reviewing sounds inbred. The list is really messed up to be honest.
Goron_3 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Goldeneye was obviously going to be number. it still pawns, and hard. Why the hell wasn't Half Life higher?
mcj metroid Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The list is completely messed up tbh. Where's Unreal Tournament? Why is HL2 so low? CoD4 is brilliant, but probably shouldn't be there. Doom instead of Doom 3 would have been better. Where is perfect Dark? Halo needs to be lower... I could go on... completely agree. Also why is there no love for timesplitters:( a game i think is far superior to halo in most ways.(especially halo 1) Goldeneye was obviously going to be number. it still pawns, and hard. it WAS the best shooter but It's now so dated it's not funny. The best fps game if all time should be a game that shouln't date TOO much.. That's why some of us still call super mario 64 the best platformer ever.. Does it really date? no not really..
The Bard Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Actually Mario 64 has dated pretty badly . Now Super Mario World...that's a game that'll never ever get old.
Cube Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The best fps game if all time should be a game that shouln't date TOO much.. That's why Perfect Dark should have the top spot.
Dante Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 the list should be: 1. Half-Life 2 2. Call of Duty 4 3. Halo 4. Goldeneye 5. Bioshock 6. Quake 7. Wolfenstein 3D 8. Duke Nukem 3D 9. Counter Strike 10. Doom 3
Retro_Link Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Goldeneye, Bunker, Grenade Launchers/Proxy Mines = some of the best multiplayer gaming ever! That's why Perfect Dark should have the top spot.Goldeneye was a defining console game however, thus deserved of a place in the top 10 FPS of all time.Whilst Perfect dark perfected the formula, it didn't really offer anything new. Still could of done with making the list though. Don't agree with Halo being so high up, or with much of that list though really!
Goron_3 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 But Goldeneye is still awesome to play! though yeah i agree that playing it now, it is nowhere near as 'omg' as it was back when it came out. I don't think Mario 64 has aged horribly at all like The Bard said, it's platform perfection Infact, no Mario game has aged at all...hmm.
McMad Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Even though Super Mario 64 was the game that defined my childhood and made me the person I am today, Galaxy did everything better and thus is the better game.
darksnowman Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 IMO Perfect Dark doesn't hold up as well as GoldenEye. The framerate in PD is shocking nowadays whereas I'd say GoldenEye's is more tolerable.
Guest Captain Falcon Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I think the reason Goldeneye was on the list but not Perfect Dark was in that it was viewed as the spiritual sequel and they clearly avoided putting two games of any one franchise (counterstike has clearly gone on to be it's own game). PD will always be seen as the fanatastic multiplayer focused follow up to GE but GE will always get the recognition due to it being first. As for some of the other picks... well... I can't imagine many people would chose to play Wolfenstein 3D over RTCW but Wolf 3D came first. But going back to my first point - I think thats why they picked Doom 3 over the original. They probably felt they couldn't put both the original Doom and Wolfenstein because there wasn't enough to distinguish them - hence the overblown and flawed sequel/ remake making the spot. I'm sure a lot of people would have both Half-Lifes on their list or all the Halos but it doesn't make interesting viewing and it does kinda off cheapen the whole top ten idea when when 2 or 3 franchises fill up ever slot on the list. Still, dissapointed not to see any Dark Forces/ Jedi Knight on that list, but hey, it's their choice and I always enjoy the Screw Attack features so I'll let them off.
mcj metroid Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 That's why Perfect Dark should have the top spot. no that's EVEN MORE dated. Horrible framrate etc etc. Actually Mario 64 has dated pretty badly .. how so? There isn't a hell of a difference between that and supermariosunshine. It still controls perfectly and still has a decent enough camera compared to most games and graphicaly It's clear and solid.
The Bard Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Well, what I didn't like about it going back was that it is sooooo sluggish. It took Mario like half an hour to turn and he moves so slowly. It's still great, by the best Mario game will always be SMW for me (I'm as big a fan of the series as everyone else anyway).
Cube Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 no that's EVEN MORE dated. Horrible framrate etc etc. I didn't really notice a bad framerate when I played it last month. how so? There isn't a hell of a difference between that and supermariosunshine. Well...Super Mario 64 is much more smooth and fluid.
mcj metroid Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I didn't really notice a bad framerate when I played it last month. Well...Super Mario 64 is much more smooth and fluid. but thats what im trying to say mario 64 didnt date much.. No it doesnt have an epic story or sometimes the missions dont make sense(blast a wall anyone?) Well, what I didn't like about it going back was that it is sooooo sluggish. It took Mario like half an hour to turn and he moves so slowly. It's still great, by the best Mario game will always be SMW for me (I'm as big a fan of the series as everyone else anyway). yes its always between those 2 for me. Mario world was the best 2d one anyway:)
