LegoMan1031 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 If anyone reads this thread and is looking into getting a PS3, i just seen a good bundle on gameplay. 40GB Console, extra controller, Resistance Fall of Man and Uncharted Drakes Fortune for £299.99! (Think it says the offer is for only this weekend) Seems pretty good price. Wish that bundle was there when i got mine... http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=KT4510&title=playstation_3_40gb_with_free_uncharted,_resistance_and_extra_sixaxis_controller
Domo Kun Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 So is there going to be a price drop anytime soon to match the 360? If not I can't see the PS3 doing so well. But I will be pissed that I could've waited a little bit and gotten it cheaper.

But I will be pissed that I could've waited a little bit and gotten it cheaper. To be honest i don't think they need to drop the price yet. The victory of Blu-ray will allow them to keep the price as it is for a while, i'm sure thats one reason why people may choose it.
Daft Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I played Haze and Soul Calibur 4 today. It was either a pretty early build of Haze...of this game has awful textures and pop up. It looks promising though. SC4 seems like they've slowed it down. Only had Taki and Sophitia to play with. I'm now less excited for it.
Aimless Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I'm just pointing out an alternative to Mike1988uk's deal. It doesn't have an extra controller, but it does come with DMC4 as opposed to Resistance and is an amazing five English pounds cheaper. So no, there isn't much in it.
KKOB Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Everyone seen this? http://www.gamestation.co.uk/product.asp?id=preBR0003
S.C.G Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Well my first proper play of my USA PS3 was a good one, got Uncharted and completed it in three relatively short sittings but it was enjoyable. My only main gripe with the system so far is that it froze once on Uncharted :S I'm hoping it was just a software issue and not a hardware problem, like I say it's only happened once so *touch wood* it's fine. Making some nice progress in Ninja Gaiden Sigma, was thinking of picking up Ratchet and Clank but then realised I already have more than enough to play on my 360 atm as it is. Watched a Bluray on it, Underworld Evolution... (it came with the machine) good film, average plot, looked and sounded nice though so I can't complain but I know there are much better Blurays out there so I may get some more at some point. Overall though I'm really liking my PS3 and I still haven't even set it up online yet lol must get around to that... The wait until June 12th continues.
LegoMan1031 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 The first blu-ray film i watched was Casino Royale (being a big bond fan and seeing the film several times i thought it would be a good film to pick to see the difference in quality). I noticed the difference alot in that film! Since then i have watched Resident Evil: Extinction and Saw IV on blu-ray.

Luckily the game had auto saved literally 2 seconds before. It also froze a ton of times when trying to set up my PSN stuff. And it's froze once on the web browser. It's froze more times than my 360 actually. Still it's mostly been the one time of setting up PSN, usually it works fine. I watched Ratatouille last night on Blu Ray. Decent film if a little ridiculous. Looked excellent on Blu Ray though. I've been looking at different games and I think Dark Sector will be my next PS3 game. Not sure just yet but it looks decent.

Mine froze near when I first got it and hasn't frozen since. I don't you need to worry... I hope. Why do computers/consoles freeze anyway?
dazzybee Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Uncharted is one of the most glitchy games I've played. I really like it, but god does it glitch every few seconds. Shame because it really breaks me out of the game when I see the screen tear and some pretty bad pop up!!!
Domstercool Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Can't say I had much of those problems when I played it.
Pit-Jr Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 From start to finish it froze up only once with me, not bad considering whats going on in the game.
That Guy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Can't say I had much of those problems when I played it. The only problem I had besides the one lock up was a bit of screen tearing. Didn't bother me too much though.

Shame because it really breaks me out of the game when I see the screen tear and some pretty bad pop up!!! You should play Mass Effect. Incidentally, how are you playing Uncharted? I was running it at 720p over component cables and didn't have much tearing at all. My PS3 has frozen twice, but neither case was down to the console. It happened whilst playing Warhawk, although that was apparently a technical problem sorted in a patch, and it's much the same story for Assassin's Creed.
dazzybee Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 720p with HDMi. I may be going a bit over the top, it's not THAT bad, but the screen tears quite a bit; pretty annoying. No other game does it.
Aimless Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I may be going a bit over the top, it's not THAT bad, but the screen tears quite a bit; pretty annoying. No other game does it. Oh, I agree that it's annoying. Especially as it could have been eliminated at the cost of a slightly less consistent frames-per-second; screen tearing is more distracting for me, even if I do love a solid framerate. I admit I don't know the full extent of the technical side, but I'm not sure why every game can't at least have the option of turning v-sync on for those that detest tearing.
dazzybee Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Does anyone know what the best options are for your PS3 display settings? I've just got everything on automatic and just wondered if it was worth tweaking around for better results - for both blu ray and game playback.
21st century cowboy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 If they're .avi files then yeah you can put them on a memory card and watch em. I used to have FF Advent Children on mine before I rid of it. Thanks. Thought I might have to crack the firmware or somat to do it. Im gonna trade in GH3 and mario strikers. Hopefully I'll get a decent amount. Think I might wait till god of war is released (not that im going to but it straight away) to see if there are any good console +games deals happening.
chrizkerr2 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Everyone seen this? http://www.gamestation.co.uk/product.asp?id=preBR0003 Ya, think its if you pre-order it, you get that version, comes with a artbook if I remember correctly. Even though I still haven't re-bought a PSP, will still pre-order Crisis Core for the limited edition version
Domstercool Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I preordered from play for £23.74 Woo! I want that artbook!
chrizkerr2 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 http://www.konami.com/Konami/ctl3810/cp20110/si3163071/cl1/metal_gear_solid_the_essential_collection !!! I didn't know they were releasing a complete collection! Anyone know if thats getting a release in Europe? Only played the 2nd one, so this would be good for getting me ready for the 4th And the price aswell $29.99 (£15.00?)
S.C.G Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Hmm I was running Uncharted in 1080i over HDMI... I didn't see any screen tearing, it was just that it froze once near the end of the game when your running away from those "things" (doen't know if that constitutes a spoiler or not) after climbing up the rope, just before the final chapter. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about, I just wondered if anyone else had had any freezing on that game / on their PS3 or on a USA PS3... Also that MGS collection looks nice ^^ I'll probably pick that up before MGS4 comes out, I've only played MGS (Twin Snakes) and MGS 2 once and I haven't even played 3... so yeah I should really pick it up. Other than that theres not much else I want on it atm, however I'm gonna set myself up with a PSN soon and check out the PS store, just as soon as it finishes getting and installing the latest update... >>
