Well I think if they are completely having to rebuild it all (I've heard rumours of new servers, new net code, new encryption) then fuck the hackers. I know those anon guys have said it wasn't them but if this was so much as even some attempt on a attack for sony not allowing homebrew etc... Then fuck them, do something cool like hacking home so a billboard says support homebrew or summit don't fuckint bring the whole system down to its knees, arseholes and their backwards crusades! So annoying that lovefilm doesn't work as well whilst the likes of iplayer do!

IGN is teh lolz. Greg Miller is un-fucking-believably bad. His reviews are absolute wank.

His job title is 'games journalist', but the way I see, he's actually just employed for being a 'bumbling cunt'.

Typical. I've never used my PS3 for LoveFilm and tonight I thought I'd do it to abuse unlimited lovefilm while I have it. And then I find this out. Fuck me! My PS3 is a glorified Bluray and FIFA player. For a few months with lovefilm it could also be that... Then this happens....

Buy some games then.

Kind of dumb given that Live also has had its fair share of down times and that their deal is a rip.

Yeah XBL has had it's issues in the past with some slow down or the problem at xmas 2008, but nothing this bad as pretty much nothing is working at all online for half a week so far.

Still silly that a company is trying to use this as a way to sell products!

I love the thought of people freaking out so much about PSN being down that they run out to trade in their PS3 for a 360 just so they can get their online fix.

Yeah, hardcore gamers are pathetic creatures.

Yeah its kinda dumb...I mean only thing I'm missing because of it thats vaguely annoying is Killzone 3 but got other things to keep me occupied so never gonna be annoyed about such things.

Well, I'm in Wales at the moment with whopping speeds of 0.5Mbps, so it isn't that big an issue. Strangely, the download of PAIN that I started before PSN went down continued to download.

We're not this upset.

So, err.... What was Mr. Tretton saying about self respecting 20 somethings again? :p

Not doing much multiplayer, the downtime of the PSN shouldn't be too much of a catastrophe.

I had to realize though, that GT5 has the annoing-as-hell habit of asking you to log into PSN after every menu change. The game also thinks it's a good idea to show you a nice popup, asking kindly to upgrade to the newest version if you haven't done that, yet.

In the middle of the race. >.<

Cube, piss off. I counted the other day, it was taking 38 seconds for 1MB. Hush yo' mouth!

That's quite fast for PSN when it's not having problems.

Read the above. Quite a serious issue. Not clear how many are affected but in a nutshell while PSN was being attacked someone took advantage of the situation and took account details of users. Credit card information is likely not compromised but Sony are not ruling anything out.

name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained.

So when it goes up change your security answers and account password.

YEah apparently somethings were still working for a while after it went down including the odd game update.

jeez....means changing passwords for other stuff as well as have similar versions of such passwords.

Well I'm glad they have come out and given us more to go on than they've had a security breach and to hang on and wait for them.

Kinda puts me off using my card on the service ever again if I am honest. Choze I know you said its not likely but they've written

"While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility"

For me this smacks of them not being entirely sure at all...

Looks like it could be a fair while before it's back up and running.

Yup - check this out.

Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the current outage of PlayStation Network & Qriocity services. We are currently working to send a similar message to the one below via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of an illegal intrusion on our systems. These malicious actions have also had an impact on your ability to enjoy the services provided by PlayStation Network and Qriocity including online gaming and online access to music, movies, sports and TV shows. We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week.

We’re working day and night to ensure it is done as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and feedback

yup....what store was it offering trade ins for 360's?!

Seriously though I'm not bothered about the fact its down whilst they resolve issues just that the following problems exist:

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained.

While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.

I would'nt blame people. Your numbers could have been partially obtained. Seems like the people who did this are real pros as no one knew what was happening.

Q.1 When did you realise the system had been intruded?

We discovered between April 17 and April 19 there was an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network.

Interesting. Also seems SOE had a separate attack from PSN's.

So it happened while the login issues were occurring.

great minds think a like...I'm on there now!

Here's some NeoGAF quality quotes.

Step 1: Go through all your credit card statements.

Step 2: Call your credit bureaus to have a fraud alert placed on your record.

Step 3: Join in any class action lawsuits filed against Sony.

FUCK WE ALL GONNA DIE!!

but seriously fuck Mr hacker and fuck you too Sony.

I knew no good would come from you kids and your online machines

This kinda makes the "it's not a big deal, go outside and read a book" apologists look unbelievably douchey, no?

Playstation Blog Europe has been updated too now.

Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the current outage of PlayStation Network & Qriocity services. We don’t have an exact date to share at this moment as to when we will have the services turned on, but are working day and night to ensure it is as quickly as possible. We are currently working to send the following message via email to all of our registered account holders regarding a compromise of personal information as a result of this malicious attack on our servers, so please look for this information via email as well. Please note that we are as upset as you are regarding this attack and are going to proceed aggressively to track down those that are responsible.

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer,

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please check http://www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams
