Wii sports praised for it's unique art style? It's one of the worst looking games I've ever played. It didn't get praised for that at all, it got praised for the way it played.

It did, just not by people like you. Within the industry alot of people took note of the positive reception it's style received from gamers and non-gamers alike.

To put what I mean in the easiest to understand terms, Wii sports has a very user-friendly inviting look. It received alot of praise for the way it created an art style which anyone from hardcore games to female gamers to non gamers could look at and feel warmed too.

The art style has made companies rethink how to appeal to the Wii audience, just look at games like Boogie and MySims.

..um.. yeh.. but anyway, it's about time SEGA made a good game, regardless of the controller.

Virtua Tennis 3?

Outrun 2?

Afterburner Climax?

Virtua Fighter 5?

Just because most of their best and most popular franchises haven't, sadly, been released on Nintendo consoles doesn't mean the games don't exist.

The art style made Wii Sports look great.

Anyway, another statement:

“SEGA has fully supported the Wii since day one and we continue to do so – it’s no secret that we are close partners. Nintendo has done a masterful job of selling its vision and expanding the market. That said, it’s a shared responsibility and opportunity for the whole industry to take advantage of the possibilities of the Wii. If we don’t realize its true potential, we will have missed a great opportunity to expand creatively and that is what I was cautioning against in the Reuters interview. I’m not just putting the responsibility of innovation on Nintendo. It’s on SEGA and all the publishers and developers as well to carry that flag.

SEGA has been behind the Wii since day one. At E3 2006, our booth was one of the only places you could play a Wii game other than at the Nintendo’s. We had playable versions of Super Monkey Ball and Sonic and the Secret Secret Rings up and running. We also just announced a historic partnership with Nintendo to create Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games – a title that SEGA and Nintendo are developing together exclusively for the Wii and DS. We currently have seven titles that we’ve announced for the Wii such as The Golden Compass, NiGHTS and Ghost Squad, and many more in development.

The Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 all have their own unique advantages. SEGA is excited to be publishing for all three consoles.â€

Sega's Steinberg Clarifies Wii Comments

Sega of America's VP of Marketing Scott Steinberg has clarified his previous comments that he made to Reuters. Steinberg is still very much a Wii supporter and he said the responsibility of innovation on Wii is on Sega just as much as it's on anyone in the industry. More within...

In a recent interview with Reuters Sega of America's marketing vp Scott Steinberg made some very interesting comments regarding the Wii and PS3, casting some doubt on the Wii's long-term prospects.

In a new statement sent to GameDaily BIZ, however, Steinberg clarified his position, noting that Sega has and always will be behind the Wii.

Here's his new statement in full:

well, maybe Sega are a little peeved that they're out of the console race and finally Nintendo is back on top! After all, Nintendo saw them off, but looked in very poor shape (in the home console market) at the end of the last generation, however now we've seen the kind of turn around Sega could have only dreamed of.

When it comes to graphics, I'm fairly convinced that the Wii will have some very good looking games in the future. Surelly the graphics will look as good as the first round of XB360 games (minus HD). But that's only cuz those games were slightly better looking that their XB predecessors, only they had HD. And then people will be surprised how underrated the graphical capabilities were.

On the PS3 however, the graphics have to improve GREATLY from what they are now, to justify the price of tha console. PS3 is all about graphics (OK, a bit about blu ray too), and I can tell you that that's one thing that isn't impressing me one bit ATM...

My English is fine, thanks. The 360 is only £20 more expensive than the Wii, and miles more powerful.

Except that no sane human being buys 'tard pack. After you add memory card (or HD) it isn't so cheap anymore... Plus not to mention how unreliable X360 is, and how much repairing* will cost. :p

* 60 £ in UK, wasn't it?

True, you can't compare the budget priced pack, which still comes without a game. The Wii is also the first home console for a long time that comes bundled on day of release with such ground breaking software.

I was over at a mates place the other night and he had a Wii and we spent the whole night playing Wii Sports, there has never been a game which is so instantly accessible and sociable.

I must say, whilst I am a big fan of great graphics and i hate it when developers skimp on such an importnat part of a game, Wii Sports has a very charming graphical style and looks great.

Yeah they did, but it's Microsoft that should be applauded for that price and not Nintendo that should be scoffed at.

The Wii could've been more powerful, but not much more powerful. It wouldn't have been a better console.

But the 360 is missing the most vital piece of the Wii hardware: The Controller.

Hence why you can't compare the two. A second hand NES may cost more than a second hand N64, but that has no bearing on the console itself.

Nintendo cut back on hardware to save expense for developers. Developing a Wii game is about the fifth of a cost for a PS3 / 360 game.

Nintendo didn't want companies to risk going out of business so they made the Wii such easy hardware to develope for. It means we can expect alot more games and much more experiment games then the other consoles, which to me is worth the sacrifice of realistic graphics :).

The thing is, Nitnendo could easily release a much more powerful Wii in 2 years. The system disrupts Sony and Microsoft's market so much already, a change like that would REALLY fuck them over.

I doubt this will happen, and if it does it would have to be fully backward compatible and simply feature better graphics. Highly unlikely.
