2007 was much better than 2008 for music, methinks.

2007 gave us The Con, The Reminder, Volta, White Chalk, American Doll Posse, Seventh Tree, In Rainbows etc etc

That came out in 7 months ago...

Bastard.

PeeEss, I love Katie's Tea.

Grammatics -

or
or

Los Campesinos! - We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed Unfortunately putting all the songs from both their albums this year would be a bit OTT

Thursday - As He Climbed The Dark Mountain

Innerpartysystem - Don't Stop

¡Forward, Russia! - A Prospector Can Dream

Isn't Viva la Vida, like, a total rip off of some other dude's song? Joe Satriano or some dizzle...

Satriani's suing them for infringement. I think it's that Viva La Vida sounds like one of his songs. If I cared enough, I'd find out more.

Anyway, done some thinking and thought of my Top 10 songs of the year:

In order of "Oh, yeah, I remember now. That one was this year, wasn't it?":

Kings of Leon - Use Somebody

Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife

Scars on Broadway - They Say

Mystery Jets (ft. Laura Marling) - Young Love

Lia - Toki wo Kizamu Uta

Lia - TORCH

Foals - Cassius

We Are Scientists - After Hours

Weezer - The Greatest Man That Ever Lived

Flobots - Handlebars

Honourable mentions:

Metallica - The Day That Never Comes

Disturbed - Inside The Fire

Weezer - Pork and Beans

Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire

I only bought one album this year, that was "Only By The Night".

It's true. 2007 was a better year than 2008. Last year we had In Rainbows, Favourite Worst Nightmare, Era Vulgaris, Elect The Dead and others. I bought a few albums last year. This year: One. Meeeehhhh!

Yeah, but you're lumping everyone who buys music together.

Considering you put down Young Love in your tracks, you seem to have not given Laura Marling's solo album (released this year) a listen...it's the joint album of year for me.

It really does sound like. I don't think it's a deliberate theft, just a "hey, I just made this up, sounds so good I'd swear I've heard it before, but can't think where..."

A truth has been spoken. Alas, I Cannot Swim is one of the best albums of the year.

I have been singing it's praises since May, to be fair to everyone involved.

I'd love to see the guy live. I should look in to it, actually. What fests has he played?

He played Glastonbury this year where he did 2 sets and also did Reading and Leeds. I saw him at Leeds and it was just amazing. Hes touring with Gaslight Anthem (who are also fucking mint) in march next year so get yourself to that : peace:

Well it's true. All the tracks on Sasha Fierce, exlcuding the first track are only Ok, with Diva being the second best cause of it's damn great beat!

I Am is 30 times better though.

-----

Talking of the Knowles, I was pleasantly surprised to see Sandcastle Disco making an appearance on Pitchfork's 100 best tracks of 2008! (By Solange Knowles)

It's just a really nice relaxing track, with a nice retro feel, not as agressive as Winehouse and others.

Dunno what the rest of her stuff is like, but I unashamdly love this song!

Meh, I disagree.

But anyway, Solange, I got her album the day it came out, and it really is amazing.

It has that retro sound throughout, and I think you would particularly like "Cosmic Journey" :)

Ok, suckers. I'm in need of some nice songs to play on an acoustic.

The Villanosaurus, can you help mee owwwwt?

If you have a Piano handy:

I love how Back In Your Head sounds good whatever medium it is in. I have about 5 different versions of it on my iPod (the demo, the album version, a live version, and two remixes) and they're all lovely in their own ways.

Errrmmmm....hows about some Foos?

Do you know any of the songs from Disc 2 of In Your Honour? Over & Out's pretty cool to play. Still is a great one to play as well.

Is there a nice acoustic number by Oasis you haven't learnt yet?

Do you know how to play Karma Police? If you don't, then you should try eet. That's a great one to play. In fact, any Radiohead song with a bit of acoustic (Fake Plastic Trees & High & Dry for instance) are all enjoyable little pieces to play.

Cheers, dudes.

I can play Everlong pretty well, and I'm trying to get that sounding the best it can. I haven't got In Your Honour, so not all that familiar with all the songs off it.

Hmm, I know a few Oasis choons (Live Forever, Wonderwall, Stay Young, and a couple of others)

I'm gonna take a look at some Radiohead.

At the moment, I'm learning Eva Cassidy's Fields of Gold, so looking for some relaxing and melodic acoustic stuff.

Just listened to that 3 times in a row, a lovely version indeed, made me smile lots. :)

I'm with Chairdriver and Paj! I prefer I am... as Halo and Ave Maria which are two of my favourite songs on the whole album, . But Sasha Fierce does have Single Ladies which is excellence and Diva which is a mastercraft but the other songs which are on Sasha are not as good as those on I am.. I feel. :)

Though I'm biased as I love all of the album.

Okay I've finally reached my Desicion as to what my Top Ten Tracks of 2008 are one per artist.

Here they are:

Girls Aloud: Love is the Key

The most fun on the whole of Out of Control from my favourite band means it earns its place.

Fleet Foxes:White Winter Hymnal

Brilliance I only heard it on Sunday and immediately I could tell it would make my top 10.

Laura Marling: My Manic and I

It Beautifully song song which is soul depressing sung in a strangely hopeful way.

LadyHawke: Morning Dreams

Starts off either in a seedy pornographic fashion or in a dream state, I can never quite decide. This song took me on a relaxing journey into the corners of my mind.

MGMT: Weekend Wars

I just love the build up in this song and when I reach the end it certainly pays off.

Beyonce: Ave Maria

I gently sung song that feels more natural and not as if she is trying to hard to create emotion within the listener.

Crystal Castles: Alice Practice

Difficult to listen to for some but I absolutely adore the shouting nature of it. Gives me a feeling of distress and despair, which is always great.

TV on the Radio: Stork and Owl

Calming but with a sense of a never ending road of pointless. This song feels with sad joy. :)

Cut Copy: So Haunted

At first I thought It was Kids so Horny....

It lifted my senses higher and gave me a feeling of greater importance than just a song..

Katy Perry: Hot n Cold

The most fun pop track of the year for me, definately just a fantastic all round tune to be honest.

Also been listening to a fair amount of TV on the Radio today, I think they are a fantastic band. Only listened to Dear Science, so far! I need to check out return to Cookie Mountain.

I got Fall Out Boy's new album in the post today... It's just a generic pop sounding cd. It's a shame they've come a long way from their pop punk roots, it's a completely different sound from their earlier albums like Take This To Your Grave.

The songs just sound over produced, and a bit crap.

Nirvana Unplugged? About a girl is easy peasy but lovely.

Where did you sleep last night? is another top track from there.
