Dan_Dare Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 more Bruce lyrics: 'the lights go out and it's just the three of us/ You, me and all that stuff were so scared of' i dare you to find a better lyric than that. I fucking dare you!
Ashley Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 more Bruce lyrics: 'the lights go out and it's just the three of us/ You, me and all that stuff were so scared of' i dare you to find a better lyric than that. I fucking dare you! Snails see the benefits / the beauty in every inch. Is that not the most uplifting lyric ever? Although I could easily quote The Format lyrics all day.
jayseven Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 We all know about Portishead's entire album streamed on last.fm, right? Just checking! Brand New - Fork And Knife is amazing. You can hear it here Damn straight that's a great little track Thanks for the link, I've not heard it in a while ^_^ 65daysofstatic have made an awesome remix album. I've discovered a few new bands through it. Awesome, I'll check it out Anyone like Death Cab's new(ish) single? I saw they were touring the UK again soon, so I'll have to check this out too...

I fucking dare you! Easy. "To resist is to piss in the wind / Anyone who does will end up smelling"
Sanchez Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Still nothing about the new NiN single? http://dl.nin.com/discipline/link <- Free download Another album in two weeks probably. This song is more like With Teeth than older albums.
The Bard Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 So, I get to see Opeth this friday. Anyone who's not jealous is a fucktard.
Coolness Bears Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 The albums i listened to today were The Con by Tegan and Sara and The Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp. They both have some great songs on them i feel. Anyone else like these?
chairdriver Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 The albums i listened to today were The Con by Tegan and Sara and The Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp. They both have some great songs on them i feel. Anyone else like these? Love The Con; Seventh Tree not so much. Out of interest what is your favourite song off The Con? If you say "I Was Married" I'll clap. I just don't really like A&E as a song, and overall I prefer Goldfrapp's previous albums.
Coolness Bears Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 seventh tree is wicked Awesome! what's your favourite song on it? Love The Con; Seventh Tree not so much. Out of interest what is your favourite song off The Con? If you say "I Was Married" I'll clap. I just don't really like A&E as a song, and overall I prefer Goldfrapp's previous albums. Ooh cool! i hadn't listened to Goldfrapp before now. I'll try out their earlier Albums as well. My favourite songs off the Con are I was Married, Soil Soil, Nineteen and back in your head! Although i pretty much like all of them!
chairdriver Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Soil, Soil was awesome live. I'm pretty annoyed they didn't play Burn Your Life Down or I Was Married when I saw them, but beggars can't be choosers.
Oxigen_Waste Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 So, I get to see Opeth this friday. Anyone who's not jealous is a fucktard. I'm jealous, but I get to see Down this Sunday, so it kinda balances it out.
chairdriver Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I never anticipated I'd like The Kills so much. I bought Midnight Boom literally on a whim, having never heard them before. For the first few listens I didn't really get into them properly, and they kinda got lost in my iTunes. Then I saw No Wow in Fopp for £5, and thought it was a bargain for a newish CD. Listening to it got me back into Midnight Boom, and now I can't stop listening to both. Tape Song, and Last Day Of Magic = win.

My favourite songs off the Con are I was Married, Soil Soil, Nineteen and back in your head! Although i pretty much like all of them! call me streotypical, but A&E is pretty special. If you've not heard their earlier stuff; be warned that Seventh Tree is a major departure. Their other albums are glam infused electro stompers, by and large. Excellent in my book, just don't to hear expect folk revival again.
Eenuh Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Ah, I finally received some of my CDs I ordered agesss ago (like more than a month). Apparently my first shipment got lost (the CDs all get sent separately, so kinda weird they all went missing) so they sent them again, and they actually arrived in less than a week. Still waiting on the third one though. Anyway, currently listening to Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes. I listened to it earlier today but fell asleep during it, so giving it a re-listen at the moment. I'm pretty sure I'll be loving this album. =3 Next is CocoRosie's La maison de mon rêves, which I know I'll love.
Ashley Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Love The Con; Seventh Tree not so much. Out of interest what is your favourite song off The Con? If you say "I Was Married" I'll clap. Relief Next To Me Not sure why, other than I like the story (or at least the one I make up in my head) to it.
Slaggis Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I'll get told they're cliche or boring or whatever, but I love these lyrics. You're not sure that you love meBut you're not sure enough to let me go Baby it ain't fair you know To just keep me hangin' 'round You say you don't wanna hurt me Don't wanna to see my tears So why are you still standing here Just watching me drown And it's alright, yeah I'll be fine Don't worry 'bout this heart of mine Just take your love and hit the road There's nothing you can do or say You're gonna break my heart anyway So just leave the pieces when you go -- The Wombats are beginning to annoy me now. Also, why are people so obsessed with scouting for girls? I'd rather shit a brick than have to listen to them again.
Ashley Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I'll get told they're cliche or boring or whatever, but I love these lyrics. -- The Wombats are beginning to annoy me now. Also, why are people so obsessed with scouting for girls? I'd rather shit a brick than have to listen to them again. These are my favourite lyrics of the same kinda theme (or at least, my interpretation): I don't wanna hurt you I don't wanna make you sway Like I know I've done before I will not do it anymore I've always been a dreamer I've had my head among the clouds Now that I'm coming down Won't you be my solid ground? Wombats I still haven't listened to much, SFG I don't mind hearing 'She's So Lovely' in the 'wild' as so to speak, but can't say I have chosen to listen to it for a while.
chairdriver Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 These are my favourite lyrics - All I Wanna Do by Sheryl Crow "All I wanna do is have a little fun before I die," Says the man next to me out of nowhere It's apropos of nothing He says his name's William but I'm sure He's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy And he's plain ugly to me And I wonder if he's ever had a day of fun in his whole life We are drinking beer at noon on Tuesday In a bar that faces a giant car wash The good people of the world are washing their cars On their lunch break, hosing and scrubbing As best they can in skirts in suits They drive their shiny Datsuns and Buicks Back to the phone company, the record store too Well, they're nothing like Billy and me, cause All I wanna do is have some fun I got a feeling I'm not the only one All I wanna do is have some fun I got a feeling I'm not the only one All I wanna do is have some fun Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard I like a good beer buzz early in the morning And Billy likes to peel the labels From his bottles of Bud He shreds them on the bar Then he lights every match in an oversized pack Letting each one burn down to his thick fingers Before blowing and cursing them out And he's watching the bottles of Bud as they spin on the floor And a happy couple enters the bar Dangerously close to one another The bartender looks up from his want ads but All I wanna do is have some fun I got a feeling I'm not the only one All I wanna do is have some fun I got a feeling I'm not the only one All I wanna do is have some fun Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard Otherwise the bar is ours, The day and the night and the car wash too The matches and the Buds and the clean and dirty cars The sun and the moon but All I wanna do is have some fun I got a feeling I'm not the only one All I wanna do is have some fun I've got a feeling the party has just begun All I wanna do is have some fun I won't tell you that you're the only one All I wanna do is have some fun Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
jayseven Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 *points chairdriver to the lyric of the day thread, where he can post all the useless lyrcs that nobody reads*
Ashley Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Yeah at least me and haggis were using them in a debatory way :p I forgot how much I love 'The Underdog' by Spoon. Clapping, trumpets, connotations of cartoon dogs with super powers. It has it all!
dwarf Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Just got back from a Kooks gig at the Oasis, Swindon. Twas good, although the support band 'The Rivers' were equally cool.
Paj! Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 call me streotypical, but A&E is pretty special. If you've not heard their earlier stuff; be warned that Seventh Tree is a major departure. Their other albums are glam infused electro stompers, by and large. Excellent in my book, just don't to hear expect folk revival again. Goldfrapp are an excellent band; anyone who can successfully do whatever style they choose pwns. Ranking albums; Felt Mountain - The best by far. Atmospheric, haunting, gets under your skin. Just beautiful and icy. Black Cherry - The follow-up to Felt Mountain had 'Frapp go down their dance route, to great effect. The fuzzy atmospheric tracks from Felt Mountain still influenced Black Cherry however, evidenced in the slower songs. Seventh Tree - Just beautiful. Calm and serene, but still has vitality to it. The whole album is like a slow walk through a sunny meadow, with little burts of exuberance here and there. Supernature - The worst of the bunch. It's ok, has some good dance tracks on it, but some just sound like crap compared to any otf their other albums. SO glad they didn't just repeat themselves for this newer album. It was only 2 and a half years ago, hardly a massive gap. I'd call it a pretty average one. It sold a boat load of copies too, so her career wasn't exactly going off track or anything. But yeah, the new single is terrible. I've never paticularly liked her, but saying her career needed revitalising is a little off. If Paj would have said it needed a boost after "American Life" then yes, but not after Confessions. It was directed mainly to Nelly. I'm a madonna fan, as she has made some of the best pop songs/mostr enduringly great pop albums ever, and I love anyone who can adapt/change. I preferred American Life to CoaD. I just wish she'd been allowed to keep the original (admittedly violent) American Life video for it's single release, instead of complying to uptight bitches. Ray of Light is her best album, since she starts embracing music beyond the mainstream, my favourite mainstream album by her is probably Erotica.
