Cube Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I'm beginning to wonder if Rockstar will actually rework the title or tone it down what with this getting a AO in america it's not going to sell great. But then how can they really rework it the themes are integral to the game. - Explain in a cutscene about a virus spreading - Give everyone you kill red eyes. And call them Zombies.
Cookyman Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 yeah sorry I did mean in the UK. Guess it depends whether other european countries rate the game or not... If Play.com and other Jersey based retailers do indeed have the balls to sell it - it could very well turn out to be a massive seller online - news travels fast and the fact the game is banned could very well make this a must have game - especially considering the positive reviews (ok just Ngamers so far but 92%). Time will tell but this could very well turn into a cult game.
flameboy Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Don't know if this has already been posted but here is a list of the only "games" to be given Adults Only ratings in the US, I use the term game loosely for some though: Playboy the Mansion: Private Party Lula 3D Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Director's Cut: PC CD ROM Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored Singles Peak Entertainment Casinos Critical Point Tokimeki Checkin! Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber Snow Drop X-Change Thrill Kill All Nude Nikki Body Language Riana Rouge WET - The Sexy Empire All Nude Glamour All Nude Cyber Cyber Photographer The Joy Of Sex Playboy Screensaver: The Women Of Playboy Crystal Fantasy Interesting to see Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Director's Cut there as thats only a 15 here.... unless the directors cut is a whole lot worse....
Ashley Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Is that a "Fuck the BBFC, we're using PEGI" I sense there? edit: The rating was BBFC 18+ until today on Play.com. PEGI goes up to 16, anything worthy of a higher rating has to go through the BBFC. And I've played Singles. It was quite tame, just frontal nudity. Might have got worse I dunno, the game was shite so I gave up.
Cube Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 ;480366]PEGI goes up to 16' date=' anything worthy of a higher rating has to go through the BBFC.[/quote'] The rest of Europe still gates a PEGI 18+ rating, though. Play.com may just sell that version.

I remember when I worked in Game we had the Joy Of Sex for the PC, I'm pretty sure it was only a 15 but can't remember. We had a look at it once, was pretty gratitous (close to hardcore but not quite). I think it got away with it as it was educational, and you had to put up with 20 mins of some old bearded dude talking in between scenes.
Cube Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 ;480385"]Im pretty sure the "unratable" on Manhunt 2 prevents places from importing it for resale. You can import it yourself. That's why I'm only mentioning Play.com and similar sites - it may be classed as import as it's from Jersey, and be a similar loophole to the VAT loophole.

conzer16 Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 but play are in jersey which as Cube has said a few times means they aren't covered by UK laws... True but they abide by the decision UK courts and regulatory bodies make so they might uphold this ban also.
flameboy Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 True but they abide by the decision UK courts and regulatory bodies make so they might uphold this ban also. yeah thats the issue really whether or not they decide stick by it... EDIT: I've emailed Play to ask them..
Cookyman Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 but play are in jersey which as Cube has said a few times means they aren't covered by UK laws... I added this earlier on but thought it might be important to point it out again - I just hope Play.com have the balls to sell it. In 2007, the Chief Minister and the UK Lord Chancellor signed an agreement[18] which established a framework for the development of the international identity of Jersey. The agreement stated that: the UK has no democratic accountability in and for Jersey; the UK will not act internationally on behalf of Jersey without prior consultation; Jersey has an international identity which is different from that of the UK; the UK recognises that the interests of Jersey may differ from those of the UK, and the UK will seek to represent any differing interests when acting in an international capacity; the UK and Jersey will work together to resolve or clarify any differences which may arise between their respective interests.

Fierce_LiNk Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 The Joy of Sex could also be one for the future.

ThePigMarcher Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Not entirely surprising , but my email to the BBFC was a waste of time. All they did was send a generic reply , redirecting me to the press release and stating that reading that may be of some use. It's not like I haven't seen the thing countless of times already.
flameboy Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 google Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber to see what "joys" we have missed out on!
Aimless Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Interesting to see Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Director's Cut there as thats only a 15 here.... unless the directors cut is a whole lot worse.... Did you see the ending? That almost drove me to violence. At a guess I'd imagine the original US release had the sex scenes cut. Well, I say sex scenes, I mean laughable puppeteering of glassy eyed robots¹. Remember that middle America fears breasts more than firearms. ¹Yes, I'm still bitter about how bad the ending was.
James McGeachie Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I think Water Closet: The Forbidden Chamber sounds more intriguing personally. I think SomethingAwful.com wrote a review of that at some point. From my memory it was some kind of horrific watersports and excrament related fetish game. Is it definitely 100% that if this game (Manhunt 2) is legally sold in some European countries it could be legally imported to the UK for personal use and not resale? Customs can be really iffy about some things (for example the fact it's completely illegal to import any form of hardcore pornography to the UK, regardless of what it's intended for).

system_error Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I was thinking the exact same thing.. Don't bother I have the original CD still somewhere - it doesn't work under Win2k/XP/Vista and it may be a funny gift for a 15 year old but nothing more. I really wonder why it has an AO rating .... ...oh well boobs = AO and violence = M in the USA

I really wonder why it has an AO rating .... ...oh well boobs = AO and violence = M in the USA yeah thats the norm for america, an AO is only really used for sexual content, M covers violence, worth pointing out manhunt 2 does apparently have scenes of a sexual nature... farenheit only got a 15 here yet it got an AO in US. Guessing because of the sex scene towards the end...guessing also thats the only reason San Andreas (the only GTA to carry one) has an AO cos its sexual references and girlfriend mechanic
