  1. Pretty much the whole labour party just came round to our area. They buzzed every flat at the same time, rude! They will definitely not be getting my vote now (not that they would have anyway).
  2. Yeah I think you're right on that, personally I'd go for a higher tax free limit, say £15k, the next £85k taxed at 25-30% (Tax and NI combined) and then anything over £100k tax the hell out of, say 60% or so. You'd obviously need to know the real figures to tweak that correctly but I don't see why it couldn't work.
  3. Not with numbers like that it won't. If they are even accurate, I would really stop basing anything on VG Chartz word.
  4. Oh sorry wires crossed on that one, I totally agree the way they plan to do it is ridiculous. I agree with the idea though. Absolutely right on the evasion point, the trouble is it's usually the rich who are able to do it. Again, it's something I think a big simplification of tax in general would sort out.
  5. It only results in the poor paying more if you do it in a stupid way. There's no reason a tax simplification has to fuck anyone over. The thing with inheritance tax, let's use your example, is that most of that money is tied up in assets and business that won't be inherited at all - merely passed on as part of a business that comes under someone else's control at some point. I think a parent who has worked all their life should be able to choose where their money goes without someone taking a huge chunk out of it. In fairness all that ends up happening is that people pass on their wealth before they die so as to avoid it. It would be much easier just to let it go completely.
  6. The flat rate of tax for all is maybe a bit far but lumping NI in with tax is definitely a sensible idea. The tax system could really do with a massive simplification. Why have it? The money has already been taxed at least once already, do the government really need to take another chunk of it?
  7. Works for me - Got the bus to work, actually really enjoyed it - Organised some sales figures - Went out for lunch for one of my mates leaving event - Set up some presentations Boring day here too, also my tummy is full of wind which is a little unpleasant.
  8. Just come to the meet in the Summer, there will be lots of single boys more than happy to give you some guilt free smoochy time.
  9. True, I suppose it depends how often you visit, a couple of times a year makes it worth having an Oyster card on hand, or if you're in the city for extended periods of time. It also frees you up with having to buy any extra tickets if you decide to go away from your planned routes. As for other things to do, I remember the open top bus ride being pretty good fun as a kid. My flatmate and I are going to go on it this Sunday if the weather is nice. The buses are good, lots of bus lanes so you zip past the queues quite easily. Depends on the trip being made as to whether you'd pick bus or tube though.
  10. I genuinely don't understand why anyone visiting London doesn't just buy an Oyster card at the start of their trip, get all of their transport sorted and refund anything left over at the end. It amazes me they even allow you to have a paper ticket anymore.
  11. I really like the underground too, granted I've never been on any other underground system but the thing really is amazing. It's way way better than any other public transport system in the country - plus it's usually quite good fun to ride.
  12. On the 13" Pro I think the previous price was just above £900 and is now at £1,000. I know the bump isn't terrible, especially as it's a refresh - it's just not enough for me to warrant buying one right now. On the iPad front I have enough airmiles for a free trip to NY. Currently thinking of taking a planned trip a little early with the bonus of picking up an iPad while out there.
  13. I don't really think that makes a difference, it's not her responsibility.
  14. Well I was planning on the 13 inch model which doesn't really seem to have had much change apart from the price. Not happy about the iPad delay, at least it means I won't spend the money for a while I suppose.
  15. I have to say the Macbook Pro update was slightly disappointing, I'll definitely be sticking to my iMac now. I really wish they'd start pre-orders for iPads here, or at least let us know when we will be able to.
  16. Totally agree with you on that, not only was he a great racer but his off-track antics were superb. I think my favourite is when a camera man 'broke his fucking head'. What a guy.
  17. If his misses finds out then it's all his fault surely? A single person can go out and enjoy themselves, no need to worry about what someone else might think. Also the whole 'being used thing' surely they will both be using each other for exactly the same thing?
  18. I'd say if you think it will be fun and you're going into it knowing it's just a bit of fun then why not. Life's too short to get hung up on things like that, it's not like you're locked into it if you don't like it.
  19. A long distance relationship is most definitely worth it with a 17 year old.... Just make sure it doesn't get in the way of you enjoying uni.
  20. I would have thought there will be some sort of evening event taking place. Would be silly not to. If some people go home after the day or others don't want to go out we can always do it with just a few of us.
  21. The one I posted in the purchases thread is proving awesome so far The Panasonic TZ65. 10.1 megapixel 12 times optical zoom loads of modes for pictures. £150 in Currys at the moment
  22. It was from Currys a TZ65. Usual price £280 reduced to £150. Online and instore.
  23. So far my day is going well, my insurance company are in agreement that the other people were to blame for my car accident. Just got to wait for everything to go through the motions.
  24. A digital camera. Was on sale at the weekend and I've wanted one for a while just in case.
