  1. Because Nintendo have a history of doing things like this and they know that a lot of people have been left unhappy with how the Wii U turned out. Customer satisfaction underpins everything they do; that's the reason they kept supporting the Wii U for so long (in fact, there's a quote from Iwata saying the same thing in one of their Investor's Q&As), despite it being the biggest failure they've ever had. Nobody else would have ever given a console like the Wii U the level of support Nintendo did. Basically this...
  2. They've got balls of steel charging that kind of price on mobile, the platform where 59p is considered a luxury purchase... I'm not holding out much hope for them past the initial week or so...
  3. That rumour sounds like exactly what I was hoping they'd do with this port, so let's hope it's true. I also suspect that we will not get a Mario Kart 9 at all on the Switch, at least the initial version of it (maybe when Switch 2 comes around). I suspect that they might be doing this for all of their Wii U ports (and a crossbuy discount deal for those who buy BOTW on Wii U). It'll be their "ambassador programme" of sorts for the ones who stuck it out during the Wii U years.
  4. (Expects Pokemon On/Off to run in 480p and look like an upscaled 3DS game at best) We all know the rules. Game Freak's games look like Camelot's games from one generation ago. I expect no different here
  5. Ahh. So THAT's the reason why RedShell sent you all those Swapdoodles so quickly... He planned it ALL ALONG!!! THE SHENANIGANS!!! He's just too good
  6. We did it guys! We got Nikki back on the job! Way to go everyone! : peace: Can't help but feel that this is probably near enough the worst time that they could released this, but oh well! It's gonna be great if we can get our old N-E Swapnoting shenanigans back up and going again... at least for three months (though that being said, if we ended up getting Switchnote...) Nope. They did give out a few extra designs for free, but no paid DLC at all.
  7. I did indeed! Exciting! Same here, Future Tone basically renders X (and almost every other Miku game) redundant. Might have to finally get a PS4 if this doesn't come to Steam (and if The Last Guardian actually gets released for realsies :p )
  8. It was £249.99 on launch and then the dropped it to £199.99 quickly afterwards (IIRC, it was within the first 4-6 months - it was the 3DS emergency price drop of its day )
  9. I wouldn't say that... it's around the same price as the Nvidia Shield K1 and that was released around a couple of years ago. The Switch is basically the Shield K2 in terms of internals, with a few things switched (ha!) around, that would've retailed for around the same price. It's actually what I would've expected the price to be around pre-brexit. All it means is that Nintendo is seemingly willing to take an early hit for that all important low price point at the start. The price indicates that it's still using the Shield K2 parts, which rightfully should comfortably outperform the Wii U. It's still more expensive than the Wii (or any other Nintendo home console at launch not called Wii U), but it's very good news all round! I know it seems cheap, but consoles didn't used to cost £300-500 back in the day... If anything, the price is in-line with what consoles used to sell for (and back to the historic, Nintendo-like range)
  10. I just realised that this price would mean that buying a Switch and Zelda BOTW would be cheaper than buying a Wii U and that version of BOTW That says it all!
  11. That would be an amazing price if that's true! I expected much much worse for the UK! ($199.99-229.99 might even be possible if that's the case!) That's a killer starting price for sure! That being said, I can't help but feel that it's a mistake to start off with two SKUs again... I get that they want to squeeze a higher margin out of the hardware (they're almost certainly making a loss with the cheaper model), but this strategy has not done anything but fall flat on its face every single time anyone has done it at launch. NOBODY buying this thing at launch wants anything but the higher priced model. Even if it's just cheap, useless tat being included in the higher priced one, nobody wants to feel like they're getting the "crappy" model; as such, the perceived default price is going to be £250 if they do this; the same price as the PS4 Slim... This strategy has never and will probably continue to never work. It was an absolute disaster when they tried it with the Wii U (to the point where they ended up having to recall the Basic models from retail and repackage them; resulting in a hilarious and incredibly embarrassing "negative shipment" during that quarter), it was a disaster when Sony tried it with the PS3 and it was a disaster when MS tried it with the 360 (the "Core" model, without a HDD). Just have the one SKU at launch, that's it. Encourage retailers to force their own bundles on consumers if you really need to squeeze a margin out of it, but for Godsake! Don't do the multiple SKU thing again! Don't mess this up and make people think that it's the same price as the PS4 by default, you will lose in this comparison! Pull a Wii here! Go simple, with one low priced SKU at launch and stay at that point for as long as possible! Don't pull a Wii U and confuse people with multiple SKUs. It Will Not Work!
  12. Same. It's the one and only Mario "level" I have never managed to beat... It's just... ugh! Impossible!
  13. Here's a nice feelgood video from Game Maker's Toolkit, showing you why Nintendo are the best at what they do Nothing revelatory, but it's a nicely put together video that acts as a reminder of why we love these guys!
  14. Nintendo have always been second place at best in Europe (except for the Wii of course, for a while anyway). Even during the 80s, the C64 and Spectrum were far more popular in the UK than the NES, simply because of the massive price difference with games (and the prevalence of British software helped too). Then in the 90s SEGA and Sony left Nintendo a distant second here. Doesn't help that NOE treated us like dirt all the way up until the Wii/DS era, when they finally pulled their finger out.
  15. Because their friends do it and they don't want to feel left out? I can imagine that being a common one (and it only takes one jerkface to ruin it for everyone...)
  16. In case you wanted anymore proof that there's a Simpson's Picture for everything...
  17. The sky was crying this morning as I woke up... I didn't even need to look at the TV or my phone to know what had just happened
  18. Friend Rooms allow for tighter control over who's playing and when, which is why we use them for the MK League nights; so I'd recommend them over the in-game tournament option. They do need someone to be the host and to set up the races though and everyone needs them on their friends list, so ideally we'd have someone who usually acts as a host for the MK League do the deed... But as we don't have anyone who fits the bill taking part in this thing AFAIK, one of us will need to nominate themselves as the host and then everyone has to add them onto their Wii U friend list. I'd nominate myself, but I'm not gonna be there for the event of course...
  19. First console was the SNES (technically we had a NES when I was a baby, but my parents sold it before I was old enough to play it, so... technically I'm a NES kid? Does that count?), first game was Super Mario World when I was 3. Still have the same console and cart to this day (and they both work! Despite my SNES having a great big hole in it...) Back then you were mooching off of me, but now... you're still mooching off of me
  20. I don't know if having Super Mario Mexico and Zelda Breath of the Wild on day 1 is a good idea. There's something to be said for spacing out your releases so that they don't cannibalise each other (people only have so much money to spend at a time after all). I reckon they'd be best served by having Zelda Breath of the Wild on day 1, alongside Mario Kart 8.5, Splatoon and their inevitable New Concept game that fills the Wii Sports/Nintendo Land role. That's enough for day 1. Have SMMexico within the first 6 months or at around Xmas time alongside Retro's new game and space out the other ports like Pikmin 4, Smash Bros Switch and Animal Crossing Wii U Switch over those first 6 months. Give themselves and their 3rd parties a bit of breathing room instead of throwing too much at people on day 1.
  21. Those Amiibo actually already work in the English version... A sign that Monster Hunter Stories is coming over here? I reckon so
  22. Rightfully, if someone is gonna compare the Wii and Wii U VC versions, they should be using the same Wii Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro on both consoles. That way we can determine whether or not it's a controller issue, an issue with the VC emulation, or just a placebo. I'll have to test it myself over the weekend at some point when I get a chance (I have both the US NTSC N64 cart and the US Wii VC version to test against, so it'll be like for like).
  23. I haven't downloaded it yet, but I just took a look at Miiverse and it seems that you're not alone with complaints about the analog deadzone... Which controller are you using? Have you tried both? I know that F-Zero X can be rather unforgivably twitchy when it comes to the analog stick movement, so I wonder if it's just people who haven't played the game in a long time, or if there's a more underlying issue...
  24. You know you can just remap the buttons, right?
  25. Can't help but feel that this is a terrible time to release the game. It (and DQ7) really should've come out much earlier. This is gonna get released right after the Switch unveiling and it's gonna reflect really poorly as a result... A shame, but at least it's coming out in the end I suppose.
