You don't need a high spec machine because it's basically doing nothing. It's just running an OS, reading data from a HDD and then sending it down the network. the data that you're computer receives at the other end is the same as the data on the HDD. Get mobile parts if you can, you're electrics bill will thank you. The more energy efficient the better! 1.5" and 2.5" Hard Drives are more energy efficient, also helps to run large drives rather than lots of small ones. Pentium M and Turion 64 processors are pretty efficient, either that or the new energy efficient Semprons (cheaper)

Fibre To Home - Broadband Speed Petition
McPhee replied to david.dakota's topic in General Chit Chat
Signed. I don't see a great deal of point though. The mobile phone networks in this country are pretty good, by the time BT get fibre down we'll have an affordable country-wide wireless network. -
If it's any good i'll buy one. Never really cared much for the DS or PSP...

This is why i've decided to stop dating older women, the last few girlfriends i've had are all a few years older than me (2-5 years). THEY ALL WANT BLOODY KIDS! At the start it's fine and they're content being a couple, enjoying themselves and living a fun life. Then, after a few months, the commitment talk starts. marriage, children, houses and all this stuff i really don't want or care about right now. Im 20, i have no intention of settling down for a good few years yet I want to get my degree, i want to see the world, i want to get on with my career! Im happy being single for now, life is going a lot better than it was before Christmas. I prefer the freedom and the meeting people without feeling guilty. Im liking my life being mine again! I've made a promise to myself, the next girl date will be younger than me. 2 or 3 years sounds like a good bet!

What's the worst thing that Nintendo have ever done?
McPhee replied to welsh_gamer's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Wii's look bad on HDTVs because you can't invent lines of pixels that don't exist. You can try though, and this is what upscalers do, some being better at it than others. Upscaling DVD players are an urban myth, they don't start becoming useful until the £250-£300 mark because most TVs have good scaling chips built in already. Nintendo could have added a good scaler, but it would have bumped the price of the system up by £50 or so. Under those circumstances they may as well give up and make the whole system powerful enough to handle 720p games. -
Ohh, thats where you sprang from! I was wondering where Emo had disappeared to...

Before that and much, much worse.

Go for it Moogle, everyone calls you that any way... Mine is my surname and the name that most of my mates refer to me by. Much better than some of my past nicknames!

Half this forum are lonely gay men, half of the remainder are in the closet. Seriously, we seem to have someone "coming out" every week here... Why else do you think this topic has so many hits? :p

It depends how quiet you want you're system to be. To make it quieter you have to lower the speed of the fans, and that's when the Freezer 7 begins to fall behind. If you find the stock Intel fan ok for noise then the Freezer 7 is a great cooler. If you think it's too noisy then you won't like the Freezer 7, which is actually slightly louder. It might be worth getting the cooler after you build, as it's quite subjective.

I found £20 today! Other than that it's been pretty much an ordinary day

That's what i'd guessed. Maybe a better CPU cooler as well then to balance it all out?

Wait for the new Intel CPUs, there's a better one than the E6750 selling for less/the same Also, what case is this going in? Why the P5E-VM? You're paying for a premium for the powerful DX10 integrated graphics and then disabling them to add a GTS...

Depends if you want to overclock or not. I've just been reading up on that P5K SE board and it looks like it will take the E2140 up to anywhere between 2.8GHz and 3GHz. The E2160 goes higher and hits 3GHz more reliably for an extra £8. The E2140 running at 2.8GHz destroys a stock speed E4500. Im not sure how far the E4500 would overclock on an Asus P5GC-MX, but given it's a budget board i doubt it would be far (if at all). Take a look at this E2160 vs X6800 comparison: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/pentium-e2160_14.html#sect0 It pretty much proves that L2 cash isn't hugely important. If you're running the chips at stock speeds then the E4500 is a better buy, but you might still be better buying an E21** CPU and spending the savings on a better graphics card. Also, if you do go for the overclocking option then make sure you buy the DDR 800 RAM rather than the 667. It's only £2 extra and will make a difference.
