  1. I actually couldn't care less who is winning, im merely trying to point out the stupidity in the "more hardware sales = win" mentality. And how do i sound like a fanboy? Im saying that Nintendo aren't necessarily winning. It's a close thing. It could be the Wii, it could be the 360. By the end of this year it could even be the PS3! If you want to call me a fanboy of all 3 consoles then go ahead, otherwise zip it
  2. The rules of the game have changed. In the past hardware sales have been a good indication of a consoles overall performance. This just isn't true for the current generation. You could argue that the Wii having the highest hardware sales puts it in the lead. At the same time you could argue that the 360 is winning, more money was spent on Xbox 360 hardware and software in 2007 than both the PS3 and Wii combined. You could also predict that this year will see the PS3 take the lead. The next gen DVD war is over, the PS3 is the best value Blu-Ray player around, it's priced very agressively and has an amazing year of software ahead. Basically it's an open game at the moment. Which ones is winning is down to how you measure success. There was a story going round just after Xmas that said more consumer money had been spent on Xbox 360 hardware and software in the US than both the other consoles combined (in 2007). This was backed up by claims that the 360 had the most successful year of any console ever in Europe. It was just Japan where they lost. Badly. (i probably should have been a bit clearer on which territories i was refering to) Not really a huge surprise considering the attatch rate is stupidly high and has risen a lot in the past 12 months. They've also got something like $25 Million per year coming in from Live memberships.
  3. Activision have added they're 2 Cents: They're predicting less sales all round than EA which i find interesting.
  4. To be honest i doubt there will be much in this generation. Nintendo have the hardware sales, but more cash is being splashed on the 360 than the PS3 and Wii combined (or that was true as of about a month ago). The PS3 has a cracking year ahead which will see it's sales rise and as a result it will be pretty much neck-and-neck by the end of this year. This guy isn't critisising the Wii, he's merely saying "will people stop forgetting that it's not all about hardware sales!" and tbh he is right. All 3 companies have different strategies for this generation, Microsoft and Sony were never going to shift as many units as Nintendo because that isn't they're main focus. Does that mean that they have automatically "lost"?
  5. Well done. Now get to work!
  6. Why am i bothering to argue this with you? Microsoft are pushing DLNA, Windows Media Centre is built on that technology. If i've understood you correctly then you're moaning about not being able to use the N95 to do something it wasn't designed to do (i.e. be a DLNA compliant media server). That phone is designed to stream media from servers/nas drives/computers etc, not server data to them. You could always get a Mac and then use Apple products to try and do the same stuff, or look for a Linux solution. Or stop moaning and fix the problem you're having yourself.
  7. Animation and design programs tend to be quad core optimised and chew through loads of RAM. Try something like this: Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 - £160 Motherboard: Abit IP-35 - £80 Graphics Card: ATi 3650 - £60 RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR2-800 (Get 2 2GB modules, then you can upgrade to 8GB if you need it) - £70 DVD: Samsung SATA DVD-RW - £18 Hard Drive: 500GB Western Digital AAKS - £60 PSU: Corsair HX-520 - £65 Case: Personal preference, but say another £60. Comes out at around £600. Those prices are pretty rough though and i know some parts can be had cheaper. Gaming-wise the 3650 isn't bad, but you might consider something with a bit more power. The 3850 comes in at around £100, the 3870 at around £130 and the Nvidia 8800GT at about £180. Which one you get depends how much PC gaming you do and how much you are willing to spend. Sorry, what? Why? WTH? etc. They use the same hardware and the software has the same system requirements. Why would PCs become obsolete faster than Macs? The only area i can think of where a PC is no longer good after 2 years is in extreme gaming. But in that market Macs are obsolete before they even make it off the production line, so i really don't get you're point?
  8. Lets be honest here, who would? Even Bush would have been against the Iraq war if he knew what he knows now. It took too long, was too costly and has fucked the country up brilliantly. Then theres Afghanistan, which got worse as a result of the Iraq war. It's gonna cost the US government Billions to fix that mistake!
  9. I've not read that whole piece, but isn't that from years ago? Like before the invasion of Iraq? It talks about Sadam like he's still alive and in power... Personally i agreed with the Afghanistan war, and i really, really wish the US finished it instead of starting a second war with Iraq. I'd welcome US raids in to Pakistan to hunt terrorists. They won't seize the country, it would piss China and India off too much.
  10. Could it be a new channel? Or do i not get how the channels thing works?
  11. Obama won more primaries, but some states have more delegates than others. As a result Clinton is ahead, she won California, New York, and New Jersey. So far it's 845 - 765 to Clinton Basically Clinton is the more favoured of the 2, but only just. John McCain will be the next President. He pretty much represents what the Republicans want, whereas the Democrats are split between 2 candidates with very different politics. There will be a large number of alienated Democrats never mind who out of Obama and Clinton wins.
  12. Antec are good if you want a reliable low-end PSU. I wouldn't buy they're premium products though, Seasonic and Corsair (both manufactured by Seasonic) tend to have that market sewn up. The only exception would be if you're buying an Antec 900 or P180/P182 case. Antec PSUs have longer cables which makes cable management in these cases a lot easier (they have the PSU at the bottom, as a result the wires in some PSUs end up being a little short). And as said above, better safe than sorry. Buy locally. Also, remember that you won't get a warranty on stuff bought from the US. Is it really worth the saving?
  13. The SE is a slightly stipped down P5K. The P5KC is a P5K with Crossfire support. The PL is shitty budget one. I'd say the C is worth the extra if you can spare it. If not then get the SE. E6550 P5KC 3850 512MB 2GB DDR2-800 DVD-RW 320GB HDD Antec 900 Case (if you like the look of them) Vista Home Premium x64 That lot comes to £607 which is pretty good value.
  14. Is this going ahead?
  15. My new camera R.R.P. £180, i got it for £100! Can't wait to start taking pictures again!
  16. I used to play French Horn in school. Kinda got roped in to it, i wanted to play Saxophone... Was a pretty decent keyboard player back then too, but i stopped playing and now i can't remember any tunes Think a set of drums are gonna be next on my purchase list. Probably electric because they take up less space and i can play them with headphones on.
  17. A 'decent' motherboard is one that is of good build quality and that contains all the features you need. It's like with anything, you have to look at reviews to find out if it's any good. Some do everything under the sun but perform badly (the motherboard can have more of an effect on performance than any other product)
  18. I got a new tent last year. 4-man with annex, cost me £40 in the Millets sale. Was expecting to have it all to myself at V, but a friend of one of my friends boyfriends (complicated eh?) didn't bring a tent. I ended up sharing it with a guy i'd never met before He turned out to be a pretty good laugh tbh, and it beat hanging out with my mate and her bf!
  19. Rise Against? Motorhead? I get the feeling this year is gonna be great! EDIT: Fear Factory and Coheed and Cambria!
  20. *Installs* *Runs off to the Hot People Gallery to test*
  21. It ain't the graphics. Future Perfect nailed the presentation in the single player and graphics are just incremental. Halo 3 is just bigger and better than Future Perfect is. For they're respective times i'd put them on a par with each other. Compare them equally though and Halo 3 is just more impressive, more modern and more feature packed. If you want the graphics milestone that i'd like to see TS4 hit then look at Team Fortress 2. The characters are full of life! (i am really, really surprised i got a proper reply rather than flaming. What the hell happened to the Wii boards? Who broke them?!?!?!)
  22. Timesplitters was hardly brilliant. The multiplayer in TS2 was pretty great, easily one of the best from last generation. The single player was crap though, it only made up for it with the challenges and stuff. Future Perfect sorted the Single Player out a bit (although i'd hardly call it great) but to me the multiplayer didn't seem as good. The level design on the multiplayer maps wasn't a patch on the ones in TS2. In terms of playing style Timesplitters and Halo are pretty similar. It'll be interesting to see if Free Radical can catch up with Valve, or even if they change the style altogether. As for becoming best in the genre? I can't see it. Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis have risen the bar pretty high!
  23. 6 Million PS3s in Europe this year? I'll believe that when... oh wait, it's never going to happen.
  24. Proper tech forum like...? I've not heard of many problems recently in the forums i visit. Heck, people are even starting to recommend buying it!
