The Gamespot and Giant Bomb reviews really stand out to me but every other review I've read has been good enough for me. I'm excited for this one, it's something different from Remedy once again.

Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens
flameboy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Chit Chat
Greg Grunberg does annoy me second time round for sure. Also the only reason I can think Leia stays in place is because the Republic has now been destroyed and she may be better positioned for the diplomacy side of that stuff. The first time round I wasn't completely sure what planets they had destroyed and the relationship to the Resistance but it's obvious second time round. As for the Rey & Leia thing yes they certainly missed an opportunity for Chewbacca to take that role of hugging her and evoking memories of Empires Strikes Back. Despite all this and JJ saying it was a regret I'm still not convinced Rey is a total stranger...I'm not sure she is a Skywalker per say but there is something going on and there are more things about Rey and some pre-production stuff that hints at her true nature. -
I think the episodic nature of this is a little odd but the cheap first episode/introduction pack helps create a lower price point to enter at. Personally I think I'm likely to play and then have had enough Hitman.

So @Aneres11 you're not the only one who just got a shiny new Vita! I did too! Unfortunately I had to switch to my canadian account in order to be able to buy digital games quickly. However this has been to my advantage as I did subscribe to a Canadian plus account at some point to get discounts and it turns out I banked a bunch of Vita games; Uncharted, Wipeout, Gravity Rush, Don't Starve plus also got games like Spelunky on cross buy. So anyway add me flameboyCA and I'm up for any multiplayer does exists on there failing that online leaderboards!

So unblock.us came up with a temporary fix and new DNS number then told everyone to go back to the defaults and then the same problems have arised, I've noticed a few people posting on their support that they have stopped replying....

Well looks like its true.... This happened last night and we are using Unblock-US which is a DNS service not necessarily a VPN. Only to get round it was keep reseting console but got annoying after every episode. What is odd in the past if the DNS stuff was down it would just revert to my regions Netflix now it won't even do that effectively rendering DNS useless of other stuff such as Hulu, 4OD and BBC iplayer if I wanted to keep using Netflix.

It's certainly a growing problem here in Canada with each cable provider starting their own services like Showmi for example. I use the US Netflix purely for shows but it could be argued for up to date movies the Canadian Netflix is actually better as evidenced by Star Wars Force Awakens coming to that service first in Canada. For TV it's crap though there are laws about percentage of canadian made content that have to offered on any TV services so there is a bunch of fluff that no one wants to watch plus the TV companies here have such a monopoly I'd wager they are pushing Netflix out. However some of that is moving aside as I think the government are cracking down on it. Another separate problem exists in that you buy your cable package that comes with the likes of ABC, NBC, HBO but then the console versions of those additional free streaming services are not available in Canada yet you sit through countless commercials telling you to use them. VPN doesn't work for some of them as you need to register your cable subscription billing info.

Orrr....a year and a few days before...check the date on the BBC link... As I think I said on facebook not here...these same reports came out almost exactly a year a go and Netflix falsified them for sure. This time however the news has been posted on the Netflix blog so it's very much real. I'm sure they get pressured by the movie companies to do something, the solution would be for those big wigs to stop being such arseholes realize Netflix is the market leader and give them international streaming.

N64 - No signal you guys got any fixes?
flameboy replied to flameboy's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yeah I do have a lot of PAL games around 50/60 so a new console isn't really a solution. I did look at the price of a passport plus and it was around $80 which is not value for money at all. @Nolan quit your crazy talk! -

flameboy replied to flameboy's topic in General Gaming Discussion
@Dcubed @Eenuh @nekunando Thanks for all the advice guys. Looking at prices its cheaper to buy a US power supply than a step up converter. Just to clarify the PAL/NTSC signal issue I have a smaller samsung tv I shipped over when I moved that I have as a spare, that's been working fine with other retro consoles. This whole thing is so annoying....and never clear cut each old console is different, dreamcast just works no issues with travel adapter, Xbox doesn't switch on at all (ended up buying a used one and waiting for cable to show up so I can soft mod it to play UK games I only have 6) N64 light turns on but as it turns out doesn't actually work. @Rummy Yes that would have been the more simple solution. -
N64 - No signal you guys got any fixes?
flameboy replied to flameboy's topic in General Gaming Discussion
So I posted this on a retro forum as well and they said this; Now the UK adapter has a range of numbers on it so I assumed it would be fine and the fact its powering on makes me think its fine in that regards....by contrast original xbox doesn't work at all because the power brick is inside and clearly says on back that it needs 220v. The fact the light is coming on makes me think its powering up plus I'm getting the screen flash. I think I'm gonna go with the cleaning of everything for now at least and see where I go from there. Loathed to shell out for a new North American power supply and it turns out to not be that having already paid for AV cable... -
So after a hop back to England and a hefty baggage allowance for the flight back I've finally been reunited with my entire game collection. However I've run in to a problem with my N64. Plugged it in (with a plug adapter) switched it on that lovely red light comes on BAM No Signal. Looked it up people saying yeah those old AV cables are abit temperamental, so bought a new one plug it in....still nothing. All I get is a the screen kind of flashes twice and then the "no power" info pops back up. I've tried multiple carts, taking our the expansion pack and reinserting and nothing seems to work. It's not the TV, tried it both on my newer big TV but also my old portable that I moved over with me (which it 100% worked with as I played DK64 about 4 years ago on it) plus all my other retro consoles are working through that same TV. My only other thing to try was to go to the dollar store and buy some rubbing alcohol and some Q tips to clean the contacts inside the cart slot and the expansion pack.

From what I played of the alpha the RPG elements weren't too complicated but still to the degree where it felt like it had the depth of a single player game. I'm 100% on board for this booking my last 4 days of vacation the week after it launches to play a crap ton of it.

There is some controversy going on I've not watched it yet; http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick/v/34377308?t=20h03m27s But apparently one racer reset the others during a Link to the Past race didn't apologise and then was a complete dick through out the run.

Everyone needs to go and watch the Final Fantasy run...its only 12 minutes long...needless to say the morons of twitch chat were not happy that this was on stage.

Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens
flameboy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Chit Chat
Been crawling through more stuff about Rogue One after our discussion two tidbits I found from this article; http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/rogue-one/38438/star-wars-rogue-one-what-we-know-so-far Sort of lends cred to Vader and Tarkin both appearing in the film; Could the truth of who is playing Moff Tarkin be hidden elsewhere; Does seem odd but he is good at voices...I think it unlikely but you never know. -
Yeah I was in and out of watching it last night very entertaining segment. What else has grabbed peoples eyes? The Transformers Devastation run was incredible especially considering the guy was playing one handed due to a lower limb disability.

I'm replaying it at the moment and yes it really is. Shame it isn't canon when it could still have been. -
Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens
flameboy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Chit Chat
See there were rumours about Hayden Christensen having a fitting for the Vader suit....and some had thought this might be part of Force Awakens awhile back...that obviously came to nothing so perhaps this is it? I mean I've nothing against him being in the suit but as long as we don't have to see him with helmet off or if we do it's brief. I mean most Chewie in Force Awakens was not Peter Mayhew as he can barely walk. -
Cheers for that link! Going to catch up on what I missed yesterday.

Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens

Yeah you're right actually I'm sure plenty of the marketing will focus on the deathstar and what not your probably right. As for Max Von Sydow's character I'm not so sure I wonder if that will be fleshed out in the Aftermath novels but I'd love to be wrong. Apparently Aftermath completely fleshes out the Battle of Jakku even as far as naming ships that are on the planet. This is how I think Finn's career went; Sanitation on Starkiller -> stationed on Star Destroyer and trained in simulations -> attended first fight on Jakku and somehow snapped out of his conditioning Apparently one of the young adult books does flesh out Finn's story to the point where some people thinking the "traitor" Stormtrooper may actually be a character within that fiction. -
Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens
flameboy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Chit Chat
What do people think about Rogue One's release? I have been left wondering if it's a mistake. People are psyched for Star Wars right now and want answers to all the questions from Force Awakens and may turn up to Rogue One expecting such answers. Over the years we've grown accustomed to a few things Back to Back sequels airing one year after the next, the Marvel movies developing a yearly story over multiple franchises. So is it a mistake to now go backwards in a way that is extremely unlikely to shed any light on events way into the future. Is the fact it's not called Episode 8 enough to ensure understanding from the more casual movie goers? Also we have the genuine worry of the prequel curse....argh. Well it's not far off now in reality. -
Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens
flameboy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Chit Chat
Wow Wow Wow. I'm going to sum up my thoughts below...I think it was a great blend of the old and new, some more serious material for the old fans as well as enough to keep youngsters satisfied. -
I'm playing it for the first time what a game!

So for me (up to Episode 7) the show started off intriguing, got really crappy and now as the plot seems to be getting more interesting the actual storytelling and dialogue has become even more clunky, like it can't manage under the weight of it's own ideas...which is perhaps what dragged down the original series.
