Lol :P Well afaik The Mentalist is a season down already, so it's not like you're not investing copious amounts of your time either way. I just reccomend at least watching the pilot for Life. You don't have to commit anything :P You can love it then watch an episode a week or avoid it for the rest of your life.- 3920 replies

Life Ok guys, I'm serious here. I don't get why nobody else I know is watching this yet. I can't remember the last time an episode finished without me grinning. It's a mix between House and Dexter, minus the serial killer element. Kinda. It's a joyous show. Every show out there treats its viewers like animals that need to be housetrained, and whether it be via plot-twists, good plots or a great budget they aim to neuter us for long enough for us to respect their show. Life initially presented itself to me as a House-filler, while I awaited the fifth season to get going, but the proximity to Dexter lies in the emphasis in an overall storyline, and its prominance in the weekly chunks that you digest as the season progresses. The acting is nearly always excellent -- the casting isn't fearful, and the script is generally wise-cracking and superb. You'll spot the odd moment of the bizarre in the staging of the show, but in many ways the shows lack of recognition of (and I wish more television shows would recognise it--) 9/11 means we get to see the show for what it is. It has no political or cultural commentary, it refuses to be led... I suppose the filler episodes, much like those in House, are perceptably predictable, but, considering the show is in its second season, there is plenty of overarching storyline to keep you watching. I've seen a fair bit of Castle, and I seriously say that Life is the show people should be watching instead. While Castle joins the ranks of average TV that will be a future generation's Quincy or Murder She Wrote, Life will be today's interesting TV, that at least provides surprises rather than the sort of connived shocks that are easily scripted; episodes of television where the end answer genuinely is not available to the audience until it is to the characters. Life... Life is the sort of show that when our kids watch, you'll wish you could say "I remember watching this when it was on". Seriously. It's the best of all the easy-watching-TV that there is. This post was perhaps slightly over-written, but truthfully I do genuinly hope that more people at least give the show a go, because it is way better than the CSI that will fill our daytime schedules in years to come. I promise you. EDIT: PS I AM RATHER DRUNK- 3920 replies

For me it's Cider and In Treatment, which still wins. Ol' buddy has been here a few hours. We've talked copious amounts of bullcrap, and it's awesome to be able to do that. I also found out that I have only got £40 to last me until the next loan. Shit, yo.

Ah, about a girl :P You reaaally should've at least given it a shot ages ago. I really like "tick tock ... life passing you by", it flows well, and makes sense. I think, though, that you're not capturing the essence of time passing. You introduce the conflict of asking a girl out then you immediately resolve the issue without us building a picture of either character; all I know of this girl is she sounds boring :P she stands there, and she says yes. The voice that tells you "do it, do it, do iiiit!" is one fragment of the mind mind (sounds like a father's voice, encouraging a child). Clearly, the character has 'whiled away' their life so far, but we don't get to taste any reason why, or see the thoughts that are holding him back. The triple-use of 'stand' and its variations is a shame, though. There she is whating. Just standing? That's static, immobile. We have no idea what it is about this girl that is so stare-worthy, so make her work for you :P Where is she standing? What does she look like? I want to know these things because I don't feel I'm constructing a strong enough figure in my mind. Reading it aloud, the first few lines just reel off the tongue; smooth tees and esses! the Brash and Bold sound off the action well. "There goes infancy, childhood, Your teen-age years. Don't while away your time, By wallowing in your tears." To me, there are a lot of sounds competing here. Infancy and childhood zoom past, which I guess could reflect how quickly life passes by, but it is absent of memories; it is what we remember about our past that makes us so nostalgic, so disturbed by the future (or, in this case, so eager to make sure the future is better). I don't know if you've ever seen this picture of a 'timeline of man' represented by empty bottles? First is a baby bottle, next is a glass cola bottle, then a beer bottle, then a drip. The visual image alone both makes you smile at the humour but also the poignancy of the notion. Compare the bottle image to just an image of what is being represented; a picture of a baby, teen, adult and old man. Sure, if arranged well it could be good, but it's too obvious, if you see what I mean? You have split the stanzas story-wise; first an overview of the passing of time, then the last two stanzas are spent 'in the moment', building up to the question, then warming down from it. I think the moment would be stronger with more time spent on the sentient of the poem -- of time flying by. But I'm glad you wrote! It's not that hard is it :P When you read it tomorrow, you may see some things you don't like as much as you did today, and you can either edit this poem or keep it as a keepsake, something to compare your work to in a few weeks or months time.

a pentacle is a pentagram within a circle. Hence the 'cle' :P You don't seriously believe the planet revolves around the sun via straight lines and 35 degree turns do you? I still don't grasp what this 8 year 'cycle' is supposed to be. Is that how frequently it is visible from earth? Or what? Tsk tsk tsk.

Seriously; just start writing :P I sat there writing shite for ages, until I came up with "can I call you home?" and the whole thing fell into place, thanks mostly to the wonder that is subconscious accumulated data! SAD I know (lololo)... I made that up. But yeah, it really took me a while to get it going. I mostly just thought of a set of words that rhymed that sounded ripe with potential (Burn, yearn, turn, learn, gurn, fern, spurn; even worm, discern, inferm, etc) and then just weasel them together. Just start writing about your day while rhyming as many words as possible, but try to do a sort of rap-like repetition of sounds in an irregular beat, and as prose. Eventually a line or two will jump out and you can take it from there. Even if it takes 3 hours :P EDIT: Oh, and your idea of breaking the line up could potentially work. If I find another couplet (and perhaps address the warrior/war glitch) to replace those two lines, then that could very well be the right direction to head in.

Today! Went to sleep at about 8am, woke up at about 3pm. Went and exchanged Assassin's Creed for a working copy, bought two tix to see Zeromancer tomorrow at the Corp, and bought a spinny ashtray thing that shouldn't smell as much (doi!), and lightbulbs. DEAD EXCITING! Wrote a poem last night, posted it on the creative board and NOBODY SAYS A WORD, which sucks because I'm quite proud of it and I'd like to hear some constructive criticism. Go check the thread if you think you have a creative/literature/emo bone in your body! Got a brighton mate visiting tonight 'til monday. She's one of those will-be-a-mate-forever type friends, who is allergic to bullshit and knows how to have a good time and chill the fuck out. Last time she visited we buried a mouse and made chilli gin and chilli vodka! She arrives at meadowhead at half 11 so I need to book a taxi, or some shit. I dunno. I might just go out and try and signal one...

I've seen them just the once, when MFZB came out about... 5 years ago? There were about 20 people at the gig and Justin did half of his set in the crowd. I TOUCHED HIS FACE. Was my first gig :P

Good choice people Goaferboy - I'd hoped you'd play as well, seeing as you're a camera dood.
