Are third nipples generally covered by 'personal shit'? Because if they are, then I know a lot about Haden that his family don't know.

it's 33 days 'til the end of the entire BISH; Eenuh would have 33 days to find a single day to spend on the BISH :P 4 days to come up with 3 BISH ideas isn't asking much. And rummy; if you mean can they join in the BISH official? then yes, sure, if they sign up on the forum and do the PM-me-shit, sure thing!

EEVIL you made me promise I wouldn't divulge our night of 'passion' to the forum. Paj; is art only art because it was made by an artist or, like a tree falling in a forest, is it only worth anything if it is appreciated? How can art be valued if the evaluator isn't aware that it's art? With 'depressing' movies, a lot of viewers will not be expecting to be tested emotionally, and will not rate it accordingly. Personally after RfaD I went outside, had a cigarette and truly felt glad that I was me-- that no matter how bad my life currently was, there was no way it could be as bad as the 4 characters in the movie. It's akin to the draw to roller coasters - why do people pay to be scared, to feel their life is in danger? It is the survival that wins out. With 'depressing' movies, as art or as emotional roller coasters, they only work if the customer expects it. In that sense, then, it is fair to say that a lower rating means the rater didn't 'get' it. But, on that point, is it the audience's role to 'get' it? If they don't, then surely the artist didn't do a good enough job of steering the thoughts and emotions. Thus, I think it's perfectly fine for people to not like a depressing movie; to lower their rating simply because the movie is depressing, because that is precisely not what they go to the cinema for.

Hey now, if I went to a restaurant and the food gave me gas, then it gets a lower rating. If I get an epileptic from a club, then I like it less. If a movie leaves me contemplating suicide then it, too, is likely to be rated lower. On the flip side, Requiem for a Dream is notoriously a depressing, sour movie -- but I can't help but rate it highly - Perhaps, Paj, you mean to say that if a movie can invoke a strong emotional response, no matter whether positive or negative, then it is a fine example of the power of cinema. But then, I don't think you think that. Bleh!

I know what you mean about trying to enter a social circle that is well founded. People generally won't be talking about accessible topics because they'd've worn them out! Dude... that's not a short list at all. There's not really all that much else to cover in a conversation. The main thing in a group of friends will be in-jokes and similar, excluding history that they share amongst themselves. The good thing is that this area grows the more you hang with new people! You sound like you made a good impression, if you ask me.

EDIT: Amended the rules. Added 'can't use old pictures of yourself'. :P Sorry, but you've got 33 days. This can take one dedicated day to complete, or even just an hour or so. Shorty has already compiled a list of ones he can do around the house that he'll do tomorrow in half an hour. Having someone to take a picture for you is indeed very helpful, but not necessary - hence writing your name on a finger and just holding it in front of a camera/phone. Sorry Eenuh, but your excuses aren't rock solid :P But I appreciate the fact that you didn't sign up only to not play, as does usually happen with several participators. You are more than welcome to change your mind - I'm planning on throwing a brisk team BISH for the meet (hush hush!), so you'll have to take part in that!

BISH is finally up. Just so happens that there are three other forumites in my flat as I did it, and they all got rather excited about it Getting my thinking hat on for future playground activities... Daft; I'd add you to my twitter watchlist but I never use it. I'll click on the link in your sig every day or so Katie; I'd say 'smart casual'. Going to an interview where everyone is casual and you are smart feels awkward... Coolness Bears; Is that little puppet-sized dude cool? I'll be him! Riding with the tortoise was indeed cool. Didn't figure so many people'd think so He, along with the 'ex' are coming over for teh weekend. Giggity :P Pyxis; that's... odd :| do you mind me asking if your house looks desolate from the outside? Once, in Leeds, a policeman woke everyone up in the house at 1am to tell us to shut a 2nd-storey window 'in case of burgulars'. Ass. O Great Chris; the past few months that you've had with your parents is basically my nightmare that I'm looking at facing shortly. Living with parents just... doesn't work after a you're adolescence, and before their second childhood. Further gaming is on the cards tonight. Tomorrow = pick up tickets (damn you DHL!), sort flights/ferry/train out for germany, get tortoise tray thing, tidy room, maybe help flatties out with their BISHing... Can't think of what else to do. Been having strong urges to model with clay. I know what Freud thinks of it. Lies, I say. Might get some tomorrow if I can find a place. Friday = x11 final (zomgzomg), ex and tortoise's arrival, bbq and night out. Old mate from halls in first year (he was in his third) is coming down tomorrow/friday for the bbq, so should be... alright to see him again. He is the source of one of several 'in-jokes' that me and shorty will doubtlessly reminisc about when we're old and grey. Shotgun accuracy. Oh, yes. Anyway! Bye.

Rate The Last TV Show You Saw (Spoiler Tags for Recent US Shows!)
jayseven replied to Slaggis's topic in General Chit Chat
Breaking Bad s02e12... The penultimate for the second season... My God. I was watching the last few minutes through my fingers- Not necessarily unpredictable but massively intense. A third season is confirmed, which is excellent! Southland s01e07 has gone beyond just being that new show that guy from the OC is in into being something that tries really hard to be quality drama. While the shakey-cam is still so distracting that it's almost an extra character for the cast, the acting in general is strong and competent. The larger story arc is fairly clear now, and it is interesting because it is a fairly weak line to follow, but each episode seems to support the continuity smartly. Each of the 8-ish characters are pimped out each episode in varying amounts to reveal their characters... But the show still feels like it is trying too hard... For those who don't know; Southland is a cop show that styles itself after The Wire, trying to attain a level of realism by focusing on one storyline at a time -- only this show doesn't foreground that storyline, instead it showcases some element of each cop's interactions with society and in this way portrays the usual 'even cops are complicated' routine. There are certainly many harsh scenes of violence, but the smorgasbord element can only run so long -- I mean, one episode sparks from a rap star's 911 call, another is to do with a movie star. Frequently there are examples of the ludicrous 911 calls that are made (this episode featured a taxi call and an issue with chicken nuggets) that helps the viewer to sympathise with the characters. The show's bottom line is; a Cop is not like any other human being. S/he has to sacrifice a lot of their life in order to pursue a life of justice and law... But this episode, in particular, really resonated the whole "USA! USA!" viba that kills shows (memorial day, ffs...) and zombifies their reputations. STILL! If anyone is reading on; this is a show that is truly in teh above average lot. It is there because it at least tries to offer conflicts of personality without a narrative diction forced down the viewer's eye sockets. I strongly recommend watching the first episode to see if you like it, especially since the summer season promises so little right now. Mental Touted as a House imitator, placing focus on mental cases rather than physical illnesses, this show offers... Little promise at all. I can't really tell if this is just a pilot or what, but the acting is scared, even with a receptionist from s02 of The Wire (oooh, there it is again!), a that guy who has been in everything from FRIENDS to Prison Break(the poor bastard always plays a crazy guy thanks to his crossed eyes)... Even the musical tinklings are similar to House. THe House wannabe is even english, too, only he doesn't hide his accent, played Whistler in Prison Break and previously had a bit- or a half-role in a bunch of english tv stuff, from The Bill to All Saints. He has his own Cuddy to face off against, too... A couple of interns who are mesmerised by his apparantly superior intellect. As a House imitator, it doesn't fare too well. None of the characters have the same charm nor wit, but as an episodic filler TV show, it does the job alright. The question as to whether each case can sustain interest is in doubt. 13 episodes have been filmed, so I'll give it a few more episodes to see if they have any actual storyline beyond the predictable. At the moment, I still say that Life is the best House replacement, stylistically. For once I'll give a rating; with 5 being an average, I'll give Mental a paranoid 6/10 for the first episode. It has promise; it has hope. If it can find its own feet to stand on, then it could go somewhere. ... And I've just realised that I've made an uber-long, auto-merged post that'll never be read. Xpert Eleven Season 8: Villan still a loser
jayseven replied to Mr_Odwin's topic in General Chit Chat
Friday's the last match Then we wait for a change report, and I guess we do the recruitment rounds! -
I've played several variations on what this game appears to be - they're pretty much sunday afternoon games that you can play with your mind switched off. Thing that gets me, though, is the uber-realism that it's trying to achieve. Any flaws are only going to be accentuated by how unreal they appear in comparison. This is the sort of game that we'll look back on in future console generations and, for the aesthetics, we'll cringe and perhaps feel embarassed that we ever considered it 'real-looking'. *is aware that his argument is probably hypocritical, when compared to his shelf of games, but doesn't care*

I've added 'useful links' to the OP which will save you having to search for the end of day or night write-ups. Also; in future could people sending targets please put their target into the subject line. e.g. Mafia Night 3: I target jayseven. Saves me a little time and effort :P

I disagree with both of these counts. 2001's ending splinters massively from the film, doesn't quite match up to the book and yet it offers a manic, bonkers view that rides utterly alone in the ocean of increasingly hollywoon movies in the late 60's and early 70's. It truly drove into a direction utterly avoided by all surrounding cinema and provided more than 20 seconds of footage where the audience has to question its own reasons for looking through their own eyes. For the cinema of the time, it was truly seminal. I really don't think the fact that it is forty years old can be overlooked. As for Apocalypse Now... Well it does to a limited degree rely on the C19th tradition of epiloguing what we encounter... But what Sheen's character goes through is so damn important, not only in reflection to Brando's character's depiction of what a soldier should be but also in terms of the contemporary cinema's treatment of the audience. Both films you name were key in showing that the motion picture was more than just a screen to watch and simply be amused by; they showed that cinema offered emotional, visceral participatory events that could do not only laughter but serious thinking. I do think that a lot of 'classic' films can be easily overlooked by modern audiences when they attempt to attribute the movies to some sort of modern climate. If either movie was made today it wouldn't be the same at all. Most likely, they would be utter trash. But because they were made, the standards of modern cinema were established. The great directors of today exist only because of the seminal movies of yesterday, and those great gone beasts can only be appreciated with this respect.

You can't fight in here! This is the war room! lols :P Yeah, kubrick = awesome, in general. To be honest, most of his films are very much borderline between 'good' and 'well everyone says this is good, so I guess I should forgive all the annoying bits'. Lolita, Eyes Wide Shut and Clockwork Orange particularly spring to mind. They're all good movies, and he's a great director, I'd just love it if someone gives an opinion that isn't stirred by their pre-conceptions.

I edited teh post. It's not a picture pulled from Pete's pocket, it's a poker chip. This alteration has nothing to do with the game, it's just my own need to make sure there's a storyline :P
