I think that so long as it's not the last ever episode, I almost prefer it when they just give us more and more questions. My earlier prediction for s06 was for our losties to be trying to arrange the oceanic flight (215, 615, or whatever) to occur as it did. While we had Jacob sort of almost doing similar things with the losties, half the time he wasn't intervening, instead almost just making sure they saw his face. Black Rock must've been the boat at the start, so who knows what that means yet The actor playing the black-shirt at the start is excellent, and nearly always plays overly loyal, bastard types. He'll be back no doubt. So what of Locke calling the 'ghost' of Jack's dad Jacob earlier in the season? Can Jacob/Black Shirt Guy 'possess' the spirits of people who are dead when they arrive on the island? At what point did Ben even decide that he had to bring the losties all back to the island? I think that's what gets me the most; Ben's character is suddenly ignorant and confused, when he should always seem to have a plan. But anyway, small matter! Juliette surviving a ma-hoosive fall should be more tsk-worthy, as well as alpert saying to jack and sayid "we'll go the way we came" -- so he's going to take an unconscious woman through 90 seconds of underwater? Pfttle! Er... yeah! Felt more like an extended single episode rather than two episodes, content-wise. Perfectly happy with them introducing the few new characters for next season, and ever-eager to see how it unfolds

I loved the animal lines from the old albums, too! But think about the trash in teh alleyway, watching trains go by, or the cracked and dirty plates, the torches together... I preferred the animals as part of this whole world of intricate meaning, where the larger focus is on how these meanings are projected by the narrator - instead this album says "look, the meaning is projected by god through all of us, so who are we to try and shade any meaning?" which is meant to be a sort of moral conclusion by the narrator, but instead the quantious questions asked over the 3 previous albums are never answered. That sudden last jump into God's faithful arms is a lot to ask for an agnostic audience. There's a clash, spiritually, that I won't be able to overcome with the album. I can still listen to it and admire it, but I don't think it will become entwined with my world view like the otheres are. I liked the angst, the darker emotions and the subtler approach to experimenting with their music, but I also respect the music they have created with this new album. Maybe one day I'll like it more :P As for this being their last album? I think I've just been reading speculating fans around the web for a few months - nothing concrete

Yes. Badlands follows the Bonnie and Clyde school of thought that we saw continue with Natural Born Killers and Wild and Heart and to some extent True Romance. Martin Sheen plays the bad boy, with Sissy Spacek his very young lover as they go on the run for the twisted I'll do anything for love sentiment. Amorality and love are supposedly contrary things, but true love surely asks for the lover to be willing to do anything, and to forgive anything, right? Terrence Malick is a most curious director who has brought out about little more than 4 films in 40 years, and I'm eager to chase them all down. Another great 70's movie

I think a lot of the underground stuff is indeed monotonous, but I hit most of them up when I was going explorer-crazy so I was almost glad whenever I found a new station as it meant I'd be unlocking a couple of new areas. I can appreciate you not liking the views in teh game. Again, however, my quest for discovering new places meant I was rather vigilant when traisping about, always with an eye on the compass, heading to a new destination sideways, scanning the horizon for trinkets. Not to make too much of a mountain here, but you have Mass Effect 2 in your sig, so I presume the repetitive planet exploration, too, got you by the short hairs? It's a shame you were affected by the hype. I avoided pretty much all promotion, and ended up gladly investing near enough 80 hours of my life.

Well Gizmo, Ellmeister! I've listened to the new mwY album about 10 times now. The cheeky games of the fox and the beetle king and the fig are all well and truly embedded into my mind... but the album is too short, they're still all too fucking happy and I don't feel that they're as unique as they were before. In terms of evolution, they've certainly matured over the albums from whining about a girl, to god, to a quizzical submission to their fate and -- now? There's a sort of drone-like, apathetic monotony to what they have to sing about. Folkish and drunk with sweet puddle-lane style fairy tales, they've dismissed their Grimm jacket and are fiddling for children now. They are grown ups and I, for one, feel they got through their adolescence far too quickly, and without nay nearly enough scars. Their fanciful, sneaky-parenting terms of "mammory glands" cervical canals has no thump that can be called kin to the carnal line "where midnight needles go to work" or even the brutal imagery of "january 1979, I saw a terrible crash, I couldn't help but laugh". It is like they are actively seeking to avoid conflict. Where the spider trilogy webbed Brother, Sister with joy, inevitability and then loss, they instead turn to accordian ditties that resurface occasionally to reel the listener back into an entropical state of bland bliss and, for the worse, insist on repeatedly repeating themselves which stinks of bible-bashing high-on-life that only serves to leave the band standing firmly but propped on the legs of their religion. Don't get me wrong; I love the band. Maybe I just think that they seem to sound too happy, considering it is widely believed that this will be their final album together.

If you look down then it probably means quite the opposite. You look down when you want to avoid eye contact, or not be noticed, or when you submit some form of 'power' or 'control' to someone else. What I'm saying is that one who does this may perceive themselves as 'less' or 'smaller' than another, so by assuming a bottom-up point of view you open up a world you can play in. Or, maybe, if you feel for it, you can try and take some arranged photographs angled similarly to those above, only try to reflect the sentiment above. But I am inclined to talk bullshit when it's past midnight and the cans are stacking, so forgive me. Oxy_Wee; great pictures. They look like they belong as a Penguin Modern Classics cover. Perhaps it would be fair to say that maybe you don't have your own 'style'? Into The Wild - you'll either find this to be snobbish and unrealistic, entirely dressed up in sentimental parkas and contrived scarves, with dangled hooks of pretentiousness -- OR you'll love it for the whimsical, born-free hippyfest that celebrates the presence of god in everything. It's based on the true story of one Christopher McCandless AKA Alexander Supertramp, who took a roundabout odyssey through the states on his way to Alaska, meeting late 60's throwback long hair and loose love. A man who tries to grow up too fast, but whose vivacity infects all who stand too close. Dog Day Afternoon is also based on true events; a man attempts to hold up a bank and what ensues is a 14-hour hostage situation that will best be known for the improvised "Attica! Attica!" scene that we all know thanks to House M.D. Al Pacino, directed by Sidney Lumet (most famous for 12 Angry Men), plays a man's-got-issues, typical opressed-70s-hero whose unshakable core 'good' leads to almost stockholm-syndrome levels of sympathy. Pacino lost out to Nicholson's role in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest at the '75 oscars, and this film is much touted as one of the best non-oscar-winning performances there is. Very watchable. Sepico is another Pacino/Lumet movie, where Pacino plays a good cop in a bad department; hippy to the bone, with one of the best movie beards ever. I really think the 70s is growing to be my favourite movie decade. Hooray for automerge! McCabe & Mrs Miller, my first knowing Altman movie outside of Short Cuts, and besides the really annoying fake snow 'effect' that they kept using, it was an almost-solid foray into the western frontier genre. I've heard before that Altman knows his stuff when it comes to westerns, but after my Eastwood tour-de-force-athon the other week, I felt let down by the lack of protagonist charisma, especially when it came to the titular relationship with Mrs Miller - the movie was too scared to wander into romantic territory, and unfortunately did not form enough substance elsewhere for me to really feel it. Whilst I do concede the contemporary expectations would've been far exceeded, I think I'll just add my vote to the pile of poor Altman being born maybe a decade or so too soon for cinema. But then, I've only seen, what, three/four of his movies?
