  1. I tried the PS4 for the first time at the PlayExpo Yesterday. Controller is damn nice, super solid and satisfying to hold. It took me a while to recover from the lack of a pause button. I always thought that button would be a stable source of support in my life, but apparently not. Minced a couple of races on Drive Club - graphically amazing and I was surprised by the sense of speed - they definitely let you tear it down some of the straights, and there is a solid degree of difficulty. A corner penalty pissed me off when I had no option but to take the inside line. Surely if I can corner better than the AI by shaving the corner a little, that's a problem with the track design/AI capability, not me. Also felt the game was a bit flat and lacking verve, but that could've been due to the pitiful booth volume. Maybe the online aspects help to invigorate the game with life, but I feel like they could've added to the general excitement with crazy announcers and heavier music rather than make do with a slick, functional aesthetic. That was the only new game on show. Got to try out MGS GZ and was taken aback at the bump in animation and lighting quality in the cutscenes. Metro seemed underwhelming. OctoDad was incredible and made me laugh out loud several times. They also had Castlevania (II ?) running on PS4, which was shite and much in need of canning. Had as much fun on the PC indie titles as anything else, tried an Oculus Rift demo of TxK which was pretty rad, and had a good laugh on the mile-long line of arcade machines and pinball tables. Had a go on the Virtual Boy as well, was very surprised at how impressive the 3D effect was. Obviously everything was in red and the actual game (Mario Tennis) was awful, but I thought the graphics would be blindingly bad. Alsov ripped myself off for a Boo cap which I'll probably wear twice in my life.
  2. Broken record Cooky, let them enjoy it how they want to dude.
  3. It doesn't reach the heights of something like, say, Disaster: Day of Crisis, but it is decent.

Looking at the videos I imagine they'll just change the rear bumper collisions because it doesn't make sense to penalise the player for wanky AI behaviour.
  5. Ubisoft backtracks on Assassin’s Creed Unity 900p/30fps parity claim. http://www.geek.com/games/ubisoft-backtracks-on-assassins-creed-unity-900p30fps-parity-claim-1606221/ Still unsure as to what's going on, that probably isn't the best source.

    I reckon they'll patch the AI/penalty system.

Eurogamer 6/10 'The PS4's DriveClub barely manages to raise itself beyond mere competence.' http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-10-07-driveclub-review Ooh dear. The actual handling looks a bit Dirt-like to me in the way that it isn't super precise and is quite forgiving, which means you don't really feel like you improve as you progress through the game. I'm interested to see what you guys make of it.
  8. I'm going on the Saturday. Really want to try Oculus Rift.
  9. This is hilarious Dedicated man shreds through Dark Souls 2 with a guitar controller http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-10-07-dedicated-man-shreds-through-dark-souls-2-with-a-guitar-controller?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialoomph He beats every boss (DLC included) without being able to turn left. What a player.

Haha, that customization is pathetic. The game itself looks intense.
  11. I tried to get a PS3 review copy from Sega but the nobheads didn't get back to me. Might just buy it anyway.
  12. All 3 but Grunch started it. If there's one Mitchell I need to reread, it's that one.
  13. Can someone explain why $2.5 billion makes any business sense? Bear in mind that Call of Duty: Black Ops grossed a billion dollars, and that was one of the most successful video games of all time. Where is the money made in Minecraft?
  14. Can anyone remember what the biggest gaming news has been this year? Doing an article that is going to cover the new consoles, Destiny, Facebook's acquisition of Oculus, and #Gamergate, but need my memory refreshing on other stories and releases. Cheers for any help.
  15. Should probably report this for the student paper as long as it doesn't clash with essays and shit. I could probably put a person up, live about 40 minute bus away though, so not ideal.
  16. As far as I'm aware, there haven't been any good first person war campaigns since CoD4. BF's single player is insultingly poor.
  17. I think he'll do well when he's playing in the right position and has the full backing of the players and manager. He can be a bit clumsy on the ball but it's a great buy for Arsenal considering how late the deal was done, and how desperately they need to fill that position.
  18. Your formatting is giving me cranial piles. Dat silver Dual Shock 4 though http://www.joystiq.com/2014/09/02/sonys-metal-slime-playstation-4-comes-with-a-piece-of-gunk/
  19. The thing is, Roons, RVP and Falcs are all top players - no denying that - but they aren't the fastest players on the planet. Ideally Di Maria would be playing further up the pitch. He can do a job in midfield, and he showed his ability to pick out great passes and make attacking runs from there, but his potential isn't maximised there and I'm not convinced of his defensive discipline.
  20. I'm liking the Falcao signing, and with the deal we get an option to buy at the end of the season. He is ageing though. Providing we strengthen at the back, this is one of the most ridiculous transfer windows I've heard of. We need a big centre back who is confident on the ball and who can surge into space when it's available. Sergio Ramos please, Mr Woodward! Couple someone like him with Jones and then we're looking pretty solid with lots of options and cover to the left and right. I do wonder about that midfield area though - Herrera, Di Maria and Mata are light-weight. We have no Toure or Fernandinho. Would Carrick be transformed with Mata and Di Maria alongside him? Quite possibly, considering Carrick has completed the second-highest amount of passes in the Premier League since 2008 (or something like that) and with those two with him things might start to click. This is the BBC's verdict of the strongest United 11. I honestly don't know.
