Games could be more scary than films!
Ginger_Chris replied to mcj metroid's topic in General Chit Chat
The scaries film was the "IT" the adaptation of the book by Stephen King. I know can't look at a clown without getting creeped out. Its not that scary once you pass 15, but i saw it when i was 8 and it seriously scared me. The book is also petty scary, but the fact film adds the whole visual element makes it worse. Back to the thread title, I think that scary games are much scarier than scary films when done correctly. The whole interaction element makes things much scarier. Alien the film was pretty scary (mainly due the ultra-realistic alien suit, far better than any CGI), but the first level of Aliens vs Predator seriously got to me, The rest of the game was "scary", but he fact i took everything at my own time, and the "actions" were mine, the way i played it, made it so much better. I think in games and films, when they try too hard to be scary, it just comes off funny, or unrealistic. The best type of scary is when things get under your skin, or pycologically creep you out. Scaryness like than can occasionally creep you out weeks after the film. Cheap scares like zombies jumping out at you or over the top amounts of gore just dont work that well. -
This is great. Even if no-body outside these forums buys the wii, we're going to have the best launch of almost any console. As a student I only get my student loan to buy everything, so I'm going to have to give up eating for a few weeks to afford all these games. No-ones going to be able to complain about Nintendo's third party support this generation. woot

Aye, its a blooper. They were the annoying white things in Super mario brothers during the underwater stages. For mario brothers 3 they were rounded off a bit, and some even had mini bloopers following them. In Super Mario Sunshine you raced them, well on them. All in all a faily staple mario enemy.

It seems a pretty average guestimate, it doesnt scream massivly powerful (nintendo fanboy) or underpowered (sony fanboy). but alot of that information ive heard before, just seems like someones collected all the definite information floating around and then added appropriate numbers. next console release I might try the samething.

Walking with beasts/dinosaurs was so much better. I dont know why we dont have another series in the nature documentry style. It really suited it. but i suposed thats not dynamic and exciting enough to pull in all those viewers . Everythings got to be high impact and exciting nowadays, else the whole viewing population will fall asleep, apparently.

Mario 2 was never really mario at all
Ginger_Chris replied to DiemetriX's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I didt know that, and i bought SMB 2 when it came out on the NES, but this leads us to a question no-one has asked yet; If what we played was oki doki panic, then what was the real SMB 2 like? I want to play the actual one. -
Well according to every review of the E3 demo ive read, the camera has never been a problem, in fact most have praised it. Whenyou dealing with small spheres, the problems of camera dissapear. I think they solved it with level design rather than having camera controls

Starship troopers 2. It was filmed in about 17 days on about a tenth of the budget of the origional. Its bad, but in a good way.

Because it's based on the best game ever and looks great, 9/10 -
Firefly is the all time best sci-fi. I want another series Star wars would have won, but although the concept was utter genius, the implementation was utter rubbish. If the scriptwriting had been up to par, nothing could have competed with it. ever. Alien/s was pretty sweet too

I wouldnt mind 6 months national service, If it were compulsery then they wouldnt be able to take you out the country in that period, ie no real fighting, (unless england was being invaded). I think it would do all the pros that blackfox raised, and eliminates the major con. Alot of teenagers today need a bit of discipline, and offenders and such usually feel at home in the army as it gives them the dicipline they need. People who do well or enjoy it would be able to continue after that time. It gives people the option if they wanted. People would complain at first but they'd get used to it. I'd prsonally like it as it would have given me something useful to do between A-level and uni (good time to do it, or after GCSE's if people drop out). It would solve alot of social problems that england is facing today, aswell as eliminate some unemployment. So yea, im all in favour of it, as long as you couldnt be called to fight, or put in a conflict area in the compulsory time.

donkey konga 2 with free bongos, both of which came with more free points. theres not alot good compared with the japanese site, but seriously a free game, thats no bad (im a student - free=most amazing thing in the world). and on top of that - FREE bongos. for nothing, no delivery nothing. I thought it was pretty sweet. Though I would like more good stuff, the problem is now, that so many people have so many points, even amazing things go quickly, even if they put on 1000 inflatable pokeballs, or 5000 keyrings, they would still go quickly.

Whats wrong with dvd's? Seriously, unless you have a hd-tv then its not a problem, and they aren't that widespead in the uk. CD's lasted ages, DVD's havent been around that long, but were taken up incredibly fast. But the only reason was that the alternatives were tapes. HD and Blue ray both have to compete with DVD, which offers already great pictures and is an established market. So im going to say that standard DVD's will win this one, maybe in a few years when the upgrade is more noticable and hd-tvs are more common, or theres a new ultra high definition or whatever, will something replace dvd's. No-one has thought about the prospect of them both failing.

I really hope this doesnt take people away from fortress forever. Valve already won't recognise them (by advertising or putting alink on steam) because there building a cometeing product. I personally think fortress forever will be closer to tfc than tf2.

and what about inside, that could just be an empty cardboard box for all we know. lego brings back fun memories.

The education system in England is screwed at the moment. But the underlying problem is that society today is one where people aren't allowed to fail. The government want to make it seem like people are getting clever, so they make sylabus's easier. It makes grades almost useless. The government want 50% of people to go to university (technically the other 50% are below average intelligence), whats the point of that if those people arent doing degrees that are actually useful? University is meant for the intelectual elite. Not so you can have a student lifestyle and get wasted and laid every night (as some of my old freinds are doing). What we should do is make exams harder, not easier. If gsce's were difficult then they would actually be worth something, and less people would have to do a Levels. If A levels were harder, then employers would be more willing to take people with just those. The number of jobs I see theequire "A degree", not a speecific degree, or a numerate degree, but any degree. Why? what skills would any degree give you? surely an A level student that got good grades should also be able to do it. I think people should be able to be told, sorry your not good enough. rather then letting them go waste 3 years at university getting a 3rd at "museum and art gallery design", or some other sbject that could more easily be taught as a modern apprentiship. I'll stop now...

Dizzy Treasure Island for the C64. I wonder what ever happened to that crazy jumping little egg. His games were awesome when they came out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dizzy_series
