no UMD support? I supoose UMD will be joining the likes of minidisk and betamax. Except betamax was good. Anyway this seems to fill a certain niche. They'll have to lower the price for it to really take off. Most people have a pc to IM, and a mobile for text. It's main competitor is texting, and im not sure at that price it will be able to compete with a strong pre-established market. no msn messager support (obviously), is also a major downer, its by far the best IM (i prefer the simpliciy of gaim however), and has the largest userbase. Seems like an uphill struggle for this little critter.

I think the slow-mo is in reference to the fact most emulator are really inefficent. Hopefully the wii's hardware has been designed with VC in mind (like its been designed with gamecube compatablity), or the hardware is powerful enough to compensate for the inefficiency

howd'ya like a bit of a DIY project over the summer holidays? Thats the only way i can see you getting a decentish gaming sytem for £500. http://tomshardware.co.uk/2005/10/14/the_uk/page2.html

lol, i used to bereally interested in animals in general when i was younger, used to read loads about various bugs. For some reason i can remember it all. Gotta feel sorry for the poor moths anyway, the ones that are farmed for silk are boiled alived while in their cacoons. The cacoon is made for a single strand of silk, and so if the moth hatched it would ruin the silk. So they boil them, which also breaks the glue that holds the strands together. This is so much crueler than any type of intensive farming done on mammals, but moths arent cute and cudely so people don't protest against it. RIGHTS FOR MOTHS i say.

They cant be silkworms that are actually used for producing silk. The oriental silk worm is actually extinct in the wild. They only exists in huge farms that produce silk, and if people keep them as pets. They have become domesticated and cannot survive in the wild. the catapillers have lost the ability to crawl and the moths have lost the ability to fly. tis a shame, i guess thats what 3500 years of domestication does to a species. I'll have a look to try and find what they are. They could be a smaller species of silkmoth (of which there are about 1200 :P). those black spots look pretty distinctive, im sure onespecies will have them. If thats a mulberry tree (anyone know) then they are most definaterly a species of silkmoth.

Here's my effort... Hmmm, howdy'all get em so big? [EDIT] sorted -
They did trash sony anyway. Anyway, i'm refusig to believe all unsourced information at the moment. Its only like 20 days until everything will/should be revealed. Everyone seems to be rumour mongering to get hits on their site. whats th best way to add validity to a rumour? remove it, and everyone instantly things its true.

If your going to uni save you money for other luxuries, such as food. I had the choice to buy a car, driving lessons and insurance before i left for university. I'm reall glad i didnt else i would have actually starved to death, or turned into a bag of 4p noodles. Plus you'll never use it. All uni towns have great bus networks, and when you go out you'll be to drunk to drive home anyway. If you have plenty of money and are working (and go to a university that allows you to work during term time), then getting a car might be a good idea. You won't use it, but if you arent using it, then you can't crash it, and its an easy 4-5 years no claims.

Some of the people searched personal data, social security numbers, addresses etc so they would be easy to identify. Whether or not AOL kept a list of which username and which ID number correspond is unknown. Won't AOL have broken their own terms and conditions by releasing this?
-
lol slashdot actually. I have no-one intelectual to discuse how bad this actually is with. Should AOL even be able to link users to individual seraches? I mean theres got to be a massive invasion of privacy right there. Do the other search engines link users with searchs?
-
It seems AOL have just released the search results of about 500,000 of their users, containing around 2 million search results. This comes after the huge amount of contervacy after the whole google/microsoft thing and the government. The users usernames have been replaced by random user ID's but many of the searches inclued personal data. Someone at AOL realised what a public relations disaster this could be, and have taken the database down. However several sites (im not going to name) have still got it up. Most worryingly is one user that has the following searches: 17556639 how to kill your wife 17556639 how to kill your wife 17556639 wife killer 17556639 how to kill a wife 17556639 poop 17556639 dead people 17556639 pictures of dead people 17556639 killed people 17556639 dead pictures 17556639 dead pictures 17556639 dead pictures 17556639 murder photo 17556639 steak and cheese 17556639 photo of death 17556639 photo of death 17556639 death 17556639 dead people photos 17556639 photo of dead people 17556639 http://www.murderdpeople.com 17556639 decapatated photos 17556639 decapatated photos 17556639 car crashes3 17556639 car crashes3 17556639 car crash photo What do you think this guy was up to? This raises alot of questions, not only about user search privacy but wether the goverment and police can pe-emptivly look at search results. Should user search data be made public? Anyway, what do you guys think? Personally I was shocked that AOL employees could not realise how badly this is going to turn out for them. I also feel sorry for user 17556639's wife.

It shouldnt be too bad for genetics, just make sure theres no family history of inbreeding, and warn the next few generations not to either. Else we could get another case of Deliverance.

Just go out there and have fun, I've had to give speaches to over 750 people and that was scary. I'd recomend just zoning yourself out, just go out there and do it. The hardest part is the beginning, just don;t think about doing it or the people out there. You've practices, so just go out and do that again. If you mess up just stop and pick up, people will notice but they'll also notice that you got back into correctly, theres such a good atmosphere at most gigs, people won't care or judge you if you do mess up. After the 10 or so minutes you get use to it and you'll start to perform and enjoy it. Good luck

Ah ok, cheers for the reply. Shame that word is an integral part of my home town, but if your going to filter one word i guess its the best choice. I guess the only way to get round the filter is to move to a better place.

What are you listening to right now?

Clubland X-treme Hardcore Vol. 2, Current song, Elevator by Hixxy and Styles. I just woke up and the helps me regain consiousness faster. Next door have been doing DIY for the last few months, starting hammering and drilling at like 8am. So these type of tracks are also for them. just to prove i can make more noise. -
Leffe Blonde (nicer than Brune), my and my housemate must have gone though 8 bottles a week just drinking it while sat on the balcony or watching tv. All real ales are nice, after you've drank them you can't go back to stella or carling, they taste like water. A quality cider, is also nice to relax to. If you just want to get drunk down snakebite. oh so very classy I t'other side of river Humber to Hull. Though the forum filter doesn't seem to like it.

Just wondering, even though there isnt any type of swearing filter in the forums, why my home town is censored. Its bad enough being mocked by people, but when non-sentient (hopefully) forum code does it, its makes me sad/mildly amused.

I like the penguin. its a bit simple (so hypocritical) but shows to everyone that your a proud user of linux. 10/10 if you use linux 5/10 if you don't -
Well judgeing by their size, they are gas giants, an pretty large ones. So no life. I'm guessing there still too small to start emitting light, hence they aren't stars. So no, no light, except starlight. They arn't actually that mysterious or wierd. The sun and planets formed for the condensing of a nebulae (one caused by a supernova, sol is a second of third generation star, due to the presence of heavy elements like lead and uranium). If a slightly smaller nebulae condensed I dont know why two objects smaller than stars shouldn't exist. It's just their hard to detect as they don't give off light. I'm pretty sure they found 2 (or more) Black holes that orbit each other. Theres no reason why they shouldn't, although due to the fact both are gaining mass its more of a spiraling into each other. They'll eventually become one black hole, well according to theory. Also there are systems with three suns orbiting each other. Due to the size of the universe (its not infinite), there'll probably be the odd sytem with even more stars, although the chances of them not destroying each other eventually is quite slim, but possible. Technically, light isnt need for life. water and hydrocarbons seem to be the main factors.

Nintendo & Microsoft sued over game controller?!
Ginger_Chris replied to ShadowV7's topic in Nintendo Gaming
This guy seems like a blantent patent troll. Its been a serious problem for many years, this site details a few of the bigger cases http://www.ipfrontline.com/depts/article.asp?id=11605&deptid=3. There is also talk about legistlation being introduced to reduce and eliminate this type of behaviour. However that only really started this June, so unless it comes into effect soon then it wont help either company. On the plus side patent cases take years to resolve, and by then the new legistlation will probably be passed. Personally i think patent laws should be made so the person that produces the patent should have the intention of producing or using the patent on their own products. If someone buys a patent (as they are transfereable), then they mut also be intending to use the patent on their own products. Also if a company is not enforcing a patent for a certain length of time, then it become void (so people cant buy unenforced patents and then enforce them. Nintendo and Microsoft have several factors on their side. The patent holder has waited until the technology is so mainstream that the patent cant be avoided before bringing it up. He should really have declard the breach of patent as soon as it was breached, but didnt so he could claim more money. Secondly all nintendo have to do is show that they had more detailed plans for such a device, or that they have more specific patents, from an earlier time. Thirdly if the idea or concept of these ideas was public before he made the patents (ie it had been floated on the internet), then the patent should be void, as you cant patent something that hs already been shown to the public, or in common knowledge. -
Nintendo & Microsoft sued over game controller?!

yea also done a bit of digging: patent number 6102802 Game controller with analog pressure sensor(s) Abstract A game controller of the type held in two hands simultaneously for controlling electronic games, including a housing, a plurality of depressible surfaces at least in-part exposed on the housing with the depressible surfaces in operational association with electricity manipulating devices contained within the housing and controlled by depression of the depressible surfaces for manipulating electrical outputs at least useful for controlling electronic games. At least one of the electricity manipulating devices is a pressure-sensitive variable-conductance sensor for creating an analog electrical output proportional to varying physical pressure applied to at least one depressible surface. The analog electrical output is output as a signal at least representational of the analog electrical output to an image generation machine for controlling electronic imagery. Also disclosed are methods of use and manufacture of game controllers having at least one pressure-sensitive analog sensor. So yea these patents actually exist. you can search for them all on http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.htm However I can't find anything to do with this company apart from these patents, which makes me wonder if this company was set up just to file some patents that might become realisty. It's not even on the yellowpages, anyone else find anything about the company? The patents themselves are EXTREMELY vague. eg A game controller in accordance with claim 7 wherein said active material includes carbon. Hopefully common sense will prevail. -
The gamecube is practically dead everywhere. Theres very little software for it being released (comparitively), and its not profitable for it to be given shelf space. Marketing of the DS seems to be going fairly well, In most shops it has a very prominant position, and several times ive heard the store clerks telling a customer they'd recommend a DS over a PSP. When the Wii is launched there will be a big increase in the amount of advertising and promotion. Alot of companies are very excited about it. The main reason we're not seeing any info or preorders is because not very much concrete information has been released. As soon as we havea release date and a price, pre-orders will be available and promotion can start in earnest.

Welcome to the boards serenitytom. Your not Big Tac in disguise are you? Alot of what he said was faily accurate, alot more than many blogs we saw. But we'll hopefully find out everything soon, so rumours aren't really needed much, personally i'm only getting excited at definite sourced information (go third party support!). And we wont flame you for buying a PS3, Your lucky to have enough money to live in gold plated house and eat diamonds for breakfast.
