No I'm not. You are giving Nintendo your money, therefore buying their "bs". Can I point out that you've almost literally just said you know what liger is going to enjoy better than he will? You've insisted you're correct on your opinion of his being and self as a person and what he enjoys? I'm sure it wasn't intended like that, but it certainly does read like that to me. Can nobody see how unproductive comments/stuff like these are? Why attack the 'person' buying/not buying the system rather than discuss the system and its pros/cons or the points people are making? I remain convinced it's what leads to so much tension here. To say you don't understand something is one thing, to dismiss it is something else - especially when so much of this comes down to opinions or feelings where there is very rarely a right or wrong. Anyhow, I digress. Tbh with you I think the worse candidates for the complaining and entitlement are probably actually the ones who are refusing to buy the system but still complaining(such as myself !) about it - surely if you buy/support a product you've a right to evaluate it and judge it?! Besides which if they're not then it leads me rather to wonder why statutory consumer rights exist in our law! Switch is doing some good things, Switch is doing some not so good things or rather just isn't doing the good things. It isn't all black and white, yes or no, hate or love. I struggle to understand how people are managing to simplify the issue to such a fine point when I really cannot see it, nor even feel it myself as someone with interest in the system.

What's the mentality that consumers are apparently NOT allowed to complain? Or hell, just people complaining generally? Believe it or not, people DO have that right; and it doesn't make it an 'entitled gamer mentality' either. Sure, no VC may not be a big deal to you. The online may not be a big deal to you. The games may not be a big deal to you. Just because these things aren't a big deal to you, why can't they be to someone else? Not everyone is buying system for 100% exactly the same reasons. As for the repeated question of 'why buy it if it doesn't have what you want' - I ask again, what if it's not the simple? The system does enough for some people at the price it's retailing for that they will buy it(and conversely not for a number of people, too) - just because you might like more doesn't mean you don't want the thing at all. Why does this argument keep getting posed so dichotomously? Like it has to be all or nothing? Who really approaches or thinks about much in life like that? Also saying that people paid their pre-orders 'knowing' that they weren't getting the VC isn't particularly fair - a very large number of people put pre-orders on this system despite not knowing very many things as this thread has shown(online setup and support, accounts and purchases, online cost, voice chat, virtual console etc to name a few). It's due with us in pretty much a week and you have to admit there's still a number of unknowns and uncertainties around the system - if you want to ask any questions of what other consoles I'd dare ask if any other console launch of the last few gens has felt so unknown or so uncertain so close to release date? Ronnie also promised me a direct by now - but I've yet to see it. What basis does one have for suggesting they're 'likely overhauling it'? That's just some blind/hopeful assumption from what I can see. Besides which as Blade already said - it's not like they haven't HAD time. What have they been doing with it all this while, and if they still need more time why are they rushing a product to launch if they still need that time to work on its features??

Meep-morp....bweeeee!

Streetpass and Miicerse bother me a bit as I thought both were great, lack of video/internet apps doesn't affect me but can certainly see the issue and don't agree with it. VC we'll just have to wait and see about, similar to the online.

Haha, that's Marcamillian but we're not cockneys, though its eems to be a recurring theme of my life atm. Apologies for any shit we were rambling about! I did see you online when I went on but saw you were only level 2 or so so didn't join you at the time - didn't want to either be rinsing your opposition or bringing you into matches with a harder matchup. For both yourself and @Fierce_LiNk I'd say play a little bit in QP until maybe level 5-10ish(won't take long) and just get used to the game and various characters for a bit (I'd encourage mixing up/avoiding a specific main or two) then think about joining up with a few of us for matches etc. A good alternative after the level 5-10 mark might even be the arcade mode for Mystery Heroes - it won't get you used to ults as they don't often make full charge but essentially every time you die you come back as a random character; possibly helping get used to ones you wouldn't otherwise pick. Once you're aware of what everyone does(either by coming up against them or playing them) you'll be in a much better position than you feel right now, and it really won't take you all that long either.

Looks like it's a 6-30 character limit so you're good...but I once again am not!
-
Godammit despite my previous good intentions I totally missed this. Slightly gutted tbh! Stardew Valley was my temptation plus a few others, but I guess I'll just end up getting it on PS4 after Zelda now. When did the damn thing end??

As a brown kid I've never been too big on my knowledge of older music - though I know Jim Morrison and The Doors's names, I don't know faces too well to recognise them! I wondered if it was some old and famous folk, but my mate keeps going on about Mac DeMarco in the last few years and maybe he took some heavy inspiration from Jim(the Morrison kind, not the Flink kind). Ofc I've seen a lot more of the latter than the former due to YouTubes etc...he does look rather similar to that gif/pic though!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
If anything with it being more of an open-world design that hopefully won't happen as much, and your idle wandering will find you embarking on new mini-adventures! -
I've not used the XBone interfact much so can't really comment on that, but DazzeL does kinda sum up my thoughts; Being unintrusive and being light on features don't have to go hand in hand, I'd like a system with lots of options but that's still slick and easy to navigate. As said I'd prefer the Switch is simple by design rather than due to being basic on features!

Surely Zelda's going to be enough to keep you busy for that week?! I'm planning to do nothing but play Zelda and sit on PS4 chat in all my gaming time, possibly dipping into Overwatch from time to time for a break - but I think for the first time in possibly ever I'm planning to smash out BotW as fast as I can to avoid falling off/getting bored etc. As for your PS4 backlog you've certainly got enough to dip into with The Witcher alone! Admittedly I feel off as I found it a bit overwhelming - but surely something like Second Son is pretty pick-up-and-play-esque? His face keeps bothering me and it's completely topic-irrelevant but is that Mac DeMarco?

When I first got my PS4 I did contemplate a Vita and then a PSTV for the remote play aspects of the system - the real issues were obviously the data transfer aspects for one, but also that I don't have so much of commute times these days to really make the most of the cost. For your commutes it'd be ideal if the battery holds out(and obvs you can charge once in at work for the journey back home) and makes pretty good sense. I think what tempts me about the Switch over a PS4/Vita combo is that you don't need the extra faff of wifi/mobile etc and the system itself is there with you. I just got my Wii U back yesterday in prep for BotW - I'm thinking of setting up in my bedroom rather than living room and using it mostly as an Off-TV device when I'm in bed and watching other crap. Not sure if I'll stick with it, but with Zelda coming I'm thinking about when/where will be best to be playing it without the Switch!

Would one really consider this an accurate description of the PS4 interface, or a potential exaggeration? I can say I personally find it contrary to having 'a million different directions' nor layers, sub menus, tiers(all similar synonyms I feel describing the same thing, and many of them not neccessary in day to day usage), CERTAINLY not right clicks, and apps?? Do you mean...just stuff that's on there? So if I couldn't see what was on there how else would I be accessing it...? I find the PS4 interface slick - I come home and turn it on, I press X to sign-in as me, hit the right stick once or twice hit the game I'm after and BAM! I'm in. Whilst the game is booting and loading I can then hit my home button for my interface overlay that lets me see what friends are online and other quick menu options etc. Again a lot of this comes to the slickness and speed as liger has also mentioned. Sure, the PS4 may have plenty of options - but does one ever really get encumbered by them? I don't personally have that problem at all. What I like is that I get into my games fast, and I get into the things I want to do around that quick and without much issue too. For what? The Switchverse potential or reveals/marketing? The latter is bizarre, especially as it seems a number of old fans are very much on the fence regarding a number of aspects - it's still marketing that could work for them in covincing those over for another initial boost in sales and install base than can then be later built upon on various fronts. We don't have to worry too much about them not revealing things though - as I recall @Ronnie promised me and kav we'd get our direct about Online features before the system is out, not to mention the ultimate authority in @Serebii telling us we'd also get a direct before release(though I'd argue we're past his timeframe). We should just chill out and wait for the directs to roll in

Personally agree myself, though reassured to see the OS doesn't seem too cumbersome in its movements compared to Wii U's. Given the generally positive reaction I'm seeing to those videos here - I'm still left wondering why it is Nintendo aren't revealing these things themselves with literally just 2 weeks to go until release of the product I personally did find it a bit slow - tbh I'd have engaged more with Miiverse if it didn't feel so cumbersome to switch into. I was hoping that they might re-brand the thing for Switch(Switchverse can work just as well) and maybe add some new functionality etc - so a little sad to see there's still no sign of similar on the horizon; probably one of the better implementations made for the WiiU imo.
-
Don't know anything about it but I'm certainly getting a bit tempted by it all. I've noticed a few titles have 'sold out' for new customers so they must have had limited keys/deals with the makers or something; makes me want to grab it sooner rather than later just in case! Think it's still got 6 days on it gonna give it some thought by the weekend. Saved some money on my Overwatch loot boxes by buying less and getting some extra work so maybe I'll turn it just to this to start out with Stardew Valley and maybe double dip on PS4 later. Just want to actually boot steam for the first time in forever and see what games I actually already have from the bundle on there...
-
I've not played it but I have harvest mooned a bit back in the day - everything I hear about this sounds like it's Harvest Moon but more. More depth, more options, and as sort of said it's the game made on modern hardware where there's more possibilities. For the price vs time you'll probably get out of it it sounds pretty good - I'm just waiting til after BotW to get it.
-
For you that's understandable but I'm not sure if by saying that you're trying to imply others are feeling that way towards switch and is a point I keep trying to make. For someone like kav(and many others) the system isn't 'completely failing' to grasp their interest. What if it's failing on some points whilst simultaneously succeeding on some? What does one do if one is not wholly for, nor wholly against, thr system but is on the balance of probabilities more towards one side than the other but still remaining a mix of both?
-
Whaaaaaaaat! That's some crazy value right in there. Hell, if this was on PS4 I'd be snapping it up in no time! Having said that I'm still very tempted to induldge nonetheless. I don't really game on PC at all, but that's quite a few tidy titles that I wouldn't mind having the chance of playing any time I like. May have to finally get round to installing Windows on this laptop or something for some of them! Stardew Valley, Stanley Parable, Octodad and The Witness mostly taking my fancy so far. Anyone recommend anything else tucked away in there?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I was really hoping they'd open up the gender options with the main character in this one - but I hope it's something they DO do in future. I wouldn't buy DLC just to see it though. In fact I might as well throw my hat into the ring of stating that I'm very much against this DLC. I never thought I'd see it with Zelda, and I don't think the relative value of that DLC compared to the price of the game is really going to be there. Agree with Nicktendo that it also feels somewhat devaluing already. Another pre-pay buy-in for something you don't fully know about until later either. -
I'd ask why the latter seems so illogical to yourself when, as I understand, did you not buy a Wii U 2-3 times? If you can see a logic to the thought process there, I see a similarity here. Of course everyone's logic is different, despite the idea that it's presented as entirely objective, so it may just be a case of differing views on the two. People have got varying likes/dislikes for this system. If you're going to eventually get a Switch for maybe Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, XC2, other titles etc(as Kav is planning from what he said) - why not jump in on the early point to have the experience whilst it's novel? When I bought my WiiU later than release, it wasn't neccessarily for the system as it was at the time - it was because I saw a good deal for a system I knew I'd eventually want to get/buy for games such as Zelda(delayed until now annoyingly), Smash, XCX etc. I could wait a year for the system and possibly pay less, or maybe even pay the same price(not since seen a premium WiiU for £200 either) but why wait until it's EXACTLY what you want, if you're fairly convinced it will become it later on and you can experience the other bits in the interim now? Even if you buy and sell on - it could theoretically be like a cheap/long rental. Personally, I should make sense to yourself though as I won't get a Switch at its price for what it's currently offering. I *would* get it at £200 - does it change any of my other thoughts on it? Does it make them lesser or more? No, it's one of many aspects that's influencing my decision and I think it's not easy to think that the Switch should either be a full on buy or no buy - some people are simply at varying levels of being in the middle. Some of those middlers are closer to the buy on launch, some the other end - but it's not just one or the other imo. Tbh a positive that should be taken for Nintendo is that they're still holding some of the interest of so many people who seem burned or worried about the system - how often do you otherwise see people extolling potential flaws of a product yet still wanting to buy it at launch??

'Does have' and 'likely good' hardly mean the same thing though, do they? Nobody's making a falsely dichotomous argument saying it will have NO online. The fact is we simply don't know enough about the online to fully comment. However from the tidbits I see us getting, such as that mentioned re: Splatton, seem to indicate it won't be on par with the standards many of has have come to accept as established since even the PS3/360. Sure - we may still be wrong, but there's so far very little evidence to the contrary, and some to support the fact it might not be there. If you're wanting to have a private conversation/dicsussion without me - then do it privately. However last I checked this was a discussion forum - and as has been repeatedly stated people should be able to discuss as they wish, whether you feel it fits your current agenda. Both points are relevant to mine about local multiplayer of old possibly not meeting the needs or wants of the current age - unless you'd somehow like to explain how they aren't I'll happily accept whatever your point was with this as moot. EDIT: Even more relevant as kav has actually gone on to make the same point in regards to local play on his Wii U. So clearly I was extremely irrelevant to this supposed private discussion I'm allowed no part of

Don't get me wrong - I think Towerfall is a great and fun multiplayer experience(and a definite missed trick with no online) but I don't know if I'd go so far as to put it in the same leagues as Smash! Why presume when you could go crazy and read someone's posts comprehensively before replying? It raises a point however that's been raised before though. You can ask about local multiplayer experiences in the current day and age - but for the majority of us here we've been gamers a long while and we've grown up and moved on - what about the fact that actually getting these local multiplayer experiences together is just probably not as practical as it once was? One thing the Switch potentially fixes is that with its portability and local multiplayer - though that will also depend heavily on the system being a success and having enough local friends to make the most of it. I'd definitely, for myself at least, prefer having an on-par online multiplayer system now than a banging local multiplayer infrastructure - simply because I think the former is much more relevant in the current day and age. Exactly this for me. Why must it be one thing or the other, rather than both? If forcibly given the choice then my situation takes online over local, but I really think both should be made equally as important and implemented as such.

I already addressed this once in recent weeks but I'm saying it one last time - stop making posts in here that are just complaining about complaining. Don't complain(alolol) you weren't warned(twice) when I take any action.

We never truly know the price they buy in at and there could be all sorts of reasons. Don't forget they've already got a tarnished reputation(many here avoided against after the Switch reveal conference despite the price), they could have some weird secret trial deal with Nintendo or something that's given them an edge(rather speculative/conspiracy-esque), or maybe they're just taking a hit hoping to make a nice profit on the extras. Consider that BotW was said to be £60 and is already cheaper from some other places - maybe they knew they could make a nice profit on that and other games? Maybe it's a good place to take a hit and just secure some good future business, especially going back to their current reputation? They also take money up front - who knows if they try to make more money off of just simply having your money too! Could be all sorts of reasons, or just nothing at all - and I doubt we'll ever find out the truth! Nonetheless, I'd buy at the price despite being well aware of the risks of Gameseek - I just feel confident enough that I'd know I'd be able to pursue it enough to get my money back if they fuck it all up and am not in a rush for the system so that's kinda fine by me. Also at the price if it turns out to be something not for me I know I'll stand a better chance recouping my money down the line if I opt to sell it on too. The WiiU definitely had its sleep/rest mode with the orange light and as kav says I'm sure it could download stuff in that - but I think it was limited to game and system updates and possibly not on the same extent as that of the PS4(can't say about XBOne as I don't have one). I don't think it has the ability to log onto the web store and buy/download and push that through to a download queue though - I know with PS4(if you've got rest mode setup) you can do that; and I'd like to hope/think maybe the Switch can do the same to some extent. Of course it's a bit more redundant with the Switch as if you're taking it out and about with you as a portable then you surely needn't be remotely pushing stuff to it in that instance!
-
Wow, hadn't realised it never got its own thread in here! Strange cos as you've said lots of people owning/talking about/enjoying it! Makes sense for my post to go here now... I think it sounds like a great example of what we can do with increased power if we aren't just turning it to graphics etc. Taking old formulae and implementing them with lesser limits on the current tech and seeing what you can do with it. Coming from a fan-made imitation sort of perspective as well I think you'd see a lot of love and subtleties put into the detail of the game that you might not always get so much with bigger titles. The game really does sound right up my street - I love stuff with multiple options and variance but I think that's my real concern for getting it - I'll probably end up loving it too much and sink all my hours into it just like many of the folks here!
