You realise we're already in the Switch thread, right? :p Interesting mention about Gameseek keeping their low pre-order price. I'm wondering if they might even attempt to retail at that, or still lower than competition, post-release? £200 is definitely the right mark for this for me - and if I see it for that in the next year that I'll probably get it. Probably not going to get Switch Zelda either way, but I'd be interested in Splatoon or Mario coming within a year, and possibly XC2. Still need to play XCX at some point though.

I'm not reading voice chat with randoms between much of those lines - and I find it strange they're making points about that and not the other issues highlighted by others too. The loadouts, matchmaking waits, unbalanced teams etc, 4 hour map slots etc are all very notable issues that I'd either take fixes for over limited voice chat, or alternatively a full voice chat option so you can let people you're playing with know what's going on when you're forced to navigate around those flaws!

Also seconding the recommendation to avoid Very. I once got a groupon deal with them(something like £20 for a £40 off £40+ spend voucher if all spent in one transaction) but because they didn't have an item in stock it didn't make the £40 and they charged me individually with each dispatch and then I had a bit of a hassle getting my money back/voucher honoured even tho they actually always had the item in stock - for some stupid reason I was either forced me into buying something different to make up the total to £40 just to use my voucher thing or I had to re-order and fight with them to get it back. They really didn't make it very easy - even though all I was trying to do really was spend my money!

Do you know weirdly, I think I kinda know where you're coming from. I mostly bought MK8 just to get WWHD for free - and whilst MK8 was certainly quite a nice new game and whatnot - too much of it just felt done already. Basically just a bit of polish on something tried and tested with a premium price tag for it. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the kinda of art style/graphics of Mario/Nintendo games in their vibrancy; but sometimes I feel like it isn't really doing much more than just that. Having said that I'm still more of a gameplay man, and thinking back to Wii Sports Boxing has got me intrigued by Arms(if I were to get a Switch) but I have to wonder if it's got enough legs(alololol)) to carry it through as a well selling title.

I'm glad to hear that! I fell off this and was going to get back in with RoI but didn't really have enough compelling me to - just felt like there was no reason to play except to buy RoI really. I think getting in on Destiny 2 from scratch with everyone here is going to make a much bigger difference to my playtime for the game; even though I completely realise that much of destiny is just chasing LL for the sake of it quite a lot :p

I keep thinking I'll wait for it in a sale but that's probably because I'm spoilt by Steam/digital distribution. I don't even boot Steam anymore due to the sheer amount of money I kept spending on games I never played - thinking I'll get Stardew Valley eventually but with Zelda on the horizon and Overwatch still keeping my fancy quite well I've got no particular urgency about it atm. Maybe one for the summer!

Personally I'd put one down with Amazon if they have stock - can't say 100% why but I've always found them both big and reliable. If was getting/wanting one in 3 weeks I'd go for them.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'd imagine @Ashley or one of the reviewers might have a good idea? -
I presumed it might be some behind the scenes deal - is it just coming to PS4 and Switch but not XBone? Wondered if maybe they promised it to PS4 first and then got tied into charging more for Switch to not undermine it. Pure speculation on my part though mind. The original DS used to just work with a number of hotspots when Nintendo did their partnership thingy with them(I know it worked in wetherspoons at least) for the wifi zone without needing to do the browser sign-in - I'd wonder/hope they're considering something similar again. EDIT: Also - the app might totally take care of that side of things for you - so you'd be signing in on your smartphone etc.

This place, man. Seriously, I'm getting really done with all of this. You guys know where you're wrong and pushing things - just stop doing it. I'm going to moderate the crap out of this thread onwards from this post tomorrow(maybe even retroactively, cos hell let's all just do what we want without regard for anyone else). I may even ban people from the thread too, and I'm going to do so completely indiscriminately entirely at my own discretion because I'm fed up to fuck with trying to work you all here. I'm just done. Sort yourselves out, be civil, discuss games and not each other. EDIT: Fair warning - don't reply/respond to this in this thread. I don't care how/if/why you're doing it - I see a response to this posted in this thread - I'm banning you from the thread. If you have an issue, post on my wall or PM me - as ever I don't aim to stifle discussion and welcome it in the public domain on my wall if you wish, but will also take PMs if preferred. No responses in this thread, though. Keep it Yooka-Laylee. Good, bad, indifferent, I don't care. Just keep it about the game.

I'd say there's possibly a bit more variance and character in the Rare games of old(BK, DK64) compared to their counterpart of say SM64. Don't get me wrong, there certainly was character in SM64 with some of the bosses, bob-ombs, toads scattered around, the rabbit(s), Bowser's little speeches through the castle, secrets etc - but I think when I consider SM64 vs say BK64 the latter felt more of a 'story' sort of feel; almost like a little bit of a fairy tale. SM64 almost felt rather like just the means to the end - a mechanic for the sake of it. I liked them both for different reasons - and whilst I didn't appreciate Rare's offerings quite as much back in the day with time I've grown to like them a bit more with time. SM64 felt possibly a bit more clinical - but for what it did it did it very well.

Belated birthday wishes Eenuh!

Just like the official store isn't their problem either, right? I'm still in agreement nonetheless - they really should show more. All I really know about this system is that it plays games, has these detachable controllers with 'HD rumble', and can both dock to TV and go in handheld. Everything else, other than the announced titles, still feels too rocky to me due to how little they're giving on the details. I can't see why you'd do that from the point of view of trying to sell thing - so I have to wonder what other reason it could be and naturally that leads me to concern that it might be something more problematic.
-
Yeah...defied all Nintendo's expectations...in a bad way!! I don't think Switch will be as bad as WiiU initially, but it needs some momentum built and kept. Whether they choose to start that later in the year when there's more content/online etc, we'll see. I'm losing more faith and interest by the day though.

You're not the only ones - http://www.thememo.com/2017/01/25/3d-tvs-festering-corpse-is-dead-and-buried/ (glad to see you didn't get one!)

Maybe there wasn't any on TV, but how can you possibly say they didn't bother when they bought us this clear and excellent piece of...marketing? The fact that TVii is on there and we're still awaiting an online app/service that we know incredibly little about is one of the big reasons I'm wary of Switch on launch/until we see more. It's just like Online being the air they breathe, along with their unprecedented partnership with EA.

Haha, was one of my first in HD too! I'd certainly not mind if Rare came up - the only problem is being a non-Microsoft gamer now I'd pretty much miss out on their stuff unless Microsoft(somewhat sensibly) opted to let them release multi-platform. They could make a killing form the PS4 install base. Or maybe if Playtonic really take off we might see a few more from the Rare team move over - I wouldn't be surprised if it's something some of them are considering or thinking about on either side. Obvs I'm not saying it'd be good for Rare or Microsoft for all of Rare's old talent to leave - but if the more of them back together in a team again the more excited I get!
-
The team isn't the same, and in fact the very things you mention kind of make them not the same either imo. Sure, if they were allowed to work without those pressures we'd probably still see some great stuff from them - but for me Playtonic are the real successors as they ARE being allowed to work without quite such pressures or constraints - and tbh I'm glad for that because it also means I might be able to get all their content on my PS4 too! I'll freely admit I haven't seen much of their offerings though, or generally been nonplussed. I think the most I've played from them since their MS days is probably Viva Pinata(a great new IP imo), Kameo and the PD-HD upgrade on 360.

@Mr_Odwin do you have any good beginner's reading/introductory stuff to this FIRE idea? I'm interested in it at least, and wondering if it might be something I decide to pursue and it kinda sounds up my alley...

Speaking of hard drives has anybody tried the back-up/restore option that seems to exist now? I understand the old method involved clouding saves and re-downloading all your data etc and that wasn't an option before - has anyone used the new(to me) option without any troubles? (not a new beta feature, but I believe introduced with the most recent OS update possibly?)

Never really been a Mac/Apple man myself so not really able to contribute to the thread on that front but seeing as you said you're just thinking about something different have you given any thought to delving into the world of Linux? EDIT: Nvm just seen you're looking at shiny new hardware anyway.

I'm doing things, and I kinda know what I'm doing as I'm doing them, but I never know/knew that these were the things I was going to do. I like doing it like that.

Keeeeeeeeeeeeeep! I'm a hoarder at heart; don't think I've traded more than 10 things in in my life. Sometimes I've sold stuff but it's generally stuff I've specifically bought with the intention or reselling. The problem with that is there's a number of things I've bought with the intention of selling them on but then getting too lazy and just ended up keeping them :p Having said that I'm sure I've got some things out on loan that I've never got back. Fairly sure I'm guilty of similar from others too though, so ykno.
-
Haha fair enough - tbh I'd probably be lazy myself if the money wasn't right for it! I do like the idea of currently putting some of potential switch money into getting those missed experiences, though. Even though it's a false economy as I'll probably buy them all then just not play at all >.<

When I was in like Year 4 or something my mum took me to the bank to open my first, own, savings account where I could put christmas and birthday money etc. She still gave me some reigns on what I could spend etc(basically only one video game for each event, so I was on like 2 a year) - and whilst I used to resent it I'm very glad for it now. I grew up as the 'tight' kid and got mocked for it; but it's because I was always rather acutely aware of the value of my money. Resultantly I was about to(with help from my parents admittedly) able to buy my house at 26 despite not working for a particularly high wage. I've always been a saver rather than a spender. I don't understand the lavish spending, and I am a bit of cheap buyer where 'buy cheap, buy twice' has hit me but I think I'm up on the whole. I basically drink in wetherspoons, and that's about the extent to which I go out :p My main expenditure is feeding myself and general drinking expenses(done more often in company of others in homes). Re: savings - due to having a mortgage I don't save too much unless it's beating my mortgage rate. I'm currently saving £500 a month into a 5% account which is more than my mortgage - I'll cash it out after a year and give the money to my parents(owe them a fair bit). I do have a 'buffer' of about ten grand I've not put onto the mortgage in case I have any house emergencies like boiler, or want to do a room reno etc, but after that I essentially put everything I can into the mortgage - but I'm able to overpay without limits. I keep my buffer fund at the moment because interest rates are low and I don't mind the cost on my mortgage for that flexibility. I once attempted to day trade on penny shares once - but man, whilst the gains can big so can the losses - it was too scary to me to be losing that money that quick! I do keep saying one day I'll get like a grand together to play with - but the idea of losing that when it could go on my mortgage at the moment is too scary. I'm always worried I could get too hooked on gambling even though I do set limits! Due to the mortgage stuff I don't save in ISAs etc because I want access to my money; but I'm thinking about it soon for the money I owe my parents etc. I, arguably stupidly, don't pay a pension but that's because I'm not sure I trust either myself to live to see it or the government to give it to me before I'm 100 or something and I'd rather put as much as I can into my mortgage at the moment to cut off the excruciating amount the banks make off me in sheer interest. I'd say I've managed to put about 30-40% of my takehome into my mortgage each year so far; I'm hoping if I carry on like this I can clear all my debts on that front by 45-50. Don't know what happens if I meet someone in that time, but I'll cross that bridge later. My plan was to possible re-mortgage this house in 10 years or so to fund a cash buy of something for a rental income; I'm unsure of that given the following now though... The economy worries me a fair bit at the moment. I'm expecting a slump and decline in the housing market after we Brexit, maybe about 2-3 years after. I don't have any formal knowledge or experience to base this on, so it's really just a wild guess, but I am starting to wonder if it may be worth contemplating selling my house; living somewhere cheaper/smaller for a few years, then rebuying something the same size for cheaper if the market crashes. I took a gamble on a tracker and rates not going up when people told me to fix though - and that's paid off for me in quite a big way considering it's my first few years of a mortgage. Of course I'm absolutely heinously fucked on the above if prices just continue to go up. My house has already, accoridng to Zoopla, gone up about estimated £70k in 3 years. I'd be willing to say with patience I could easily get £80-90k more than I paid for it though. More if I did the work inside that's needed(it's very dated, hence the buffer fund I mentioned earlier). tl;dr: My advice to anyone: pay your debts before saving if you have them. I've pretty much never had debt barring this mortgage; but yeah. Always pay your debts first unless the interest is better on savings than debts(very rare). Once debt-free - save at the highest interest you can and switch if the rates get poor. Great site for finance advice etc(other than our resident Modwin here) I'd recommend is Martin Lewis's http://www.moneysavingexpert.com too.
