  1. Nice! Got some CEX credit on a receipt thing somewhere and kept saying I'd use it on a retail Tearaway to play and lend - glad its possibly coming to PS+ instead now! Don't know anything about Disc Jam though.
  2. I've followed literally nothing on this game but it seems to be popping into a number of recent conversations - can anyone sum up why I want/need this game in my life? I'm under the impression it's getting good vibes, but I recall next to nothing about it and kinda feel like attempting to stay spoiler-free (if applicable).
  3. I think it's going to slowly amount to more than a drop in the ocean. It's clear even just from the community here that you're not the only one with that feeling about Nintendo - I've personally taken the same approach since the WiiU where I felt the product again wasn't doing enough for me at the price. I can definitely see where @Choze is coming from on the potential for sales - this has got some interesting hype and it's got quite a large release stock from the bits I was reading trying to find out about previous launch consoles etc. However I do think hype doesn't always translate and I'm worried that'll be the case here again; I'm wondering how many of those pre-orders are actually all going to sell through and not end up on eBay etc right afterwards. I think scalpers will still be targetting Nintendo hardware(also wonder if this happened and threw them off with WiiU) and I think they'll target Switch as well. I think other than people here I so far know one person definitely getting a Switch on Friday - but he's a big and lifetime sort of Nintendo gamer like us too. The only other person I've seen/met who wanted to get it was my mate's little cousin a few weeks ago - interestingly enough I'd say she's definitely not the sort to fit into 'our' demographic as it were; so it's interesting to see there's still multiple levels of appeal from Nintendo's products. Would you get one eventually, though? Is it worth having now(whilst there's still an arguable number of uncertainties around the console) or worth waiting for? I picked up my Wii U on eventual promise of games(Smash, XCX, Zelda...), and because it was the right price at the time and I thought to myself that paying a little more to have it a year or two sooner wasn't too bad. However Switch isn't doing it for me at the current price, and I don't see myself getting too much other use out of it myself if I got one now. If I were in @Kav's position of having a long commute each day I'd very likely pick one up now for the value it can give me on those journeys right now! Sadly I don't think it's so applicable when a lot of your commuting is driving one's self...
  4. I didn't even consider the idea of having/not having the map on a second screen. Small but notable for Splatoon imo - thanks for the thoughts @Mr\-Paul! I think seeing more of Splatwoon is really going to be a big bit of the Switch for me after the first.
  5. Been waiting for your hands-on Mr-paul, thanks for that. Most of what I kinda expected but the above caught my interest - how much of Splatoon did you actually get to play? New map(s)? What was different on the weapons front? Splatoon's one of the big draws for me for the system, though with the unknown Online at the moment and if it's not doing much new then it could be a big blow to my interest for it down the line
  6. I think we're on different pages here as I'd resolutely stick a 'U' after the Wii in your post if it were mine :p We still need figures to compare to anyhow! Couldn't look properly earlier due to being at work and the filters make so much stuff a pain. Had a quick look now but reckon I still need to research a bit more as most of what I find refers to 'best-selling' rather than fastest-selling; can't find any comparison for what's done 5mil except some reference to the 3DS doing 5million in Japan alone in 52 weeks. Unrelated fact though - was in Sainsburys earlier and perusing the games aisle for the games I never play, sitting just opposite their wall of TVs. Then I hear a familiar ding, and it's Switch?! Turns out it was just a Switch video and branded thing to say you can pre-order at Sainsburys; but was quite interesting to see it being pushed in that manner! Don't know if it's just a general thing Sainsburys do or what but I've not particularly noticed that stuff before! EDIT: Best so far is VGChartz - is a graph and not clear figures and obviously not sure how/when/where sourced. Wii looks like the steepest start of all the lines, followed by PS4 - but I'm just judging that by eye. http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_date.php?reg=Global&ending=Yearly Nope those lines look too dodgy for me - especially considering the PS4's apparently starts before it was even out?!
  7. Whilst I'm certainly not gaming as much as you guys here(so not noticed this apparently splurge of good games) I do find myself increasingly thinking about what I could do with the Switch money instead of a Switch. How many downloadable titles I fancy on PS4 but not at the current price etc; maybe a big retail game or two...just possibilities! Having said that I don't think I've bought anything retail or played much else since Overwatch was in my hands. Ofc I still think I'm going to get a Switch at some point, so I'm trying to remain behaved; but I do wonder how much further £300 could go elsewhere! I think as well that @Daft raises quite an interesting point about later in the year when a number of big releases are upon us - will Nintendo be able to remain sensible in that market? I can certainly see a peak in alternative console sales with Destiny 2 coming given some were still playing D1 on last gen's systems, no? Ni No Kuni will no doubt do well, but I'm not sure if it'll match/beat the first's. There's a game I'd love to see on Switch nonetheless though - probably one I'd likely play a lot more with portability too. Interesting thought - though I disagree. I think it'll do well with its initial spurt similar to the WiiU but then stall, hard. Maybe we'll see things pick up later in the year with other releases but also see above. Out of interest when do you see it hitting the 5mil/10mil marks? What sort of timeframe is it competing against in former released consoles?
  8. @Serebii please avoid telling people to calm down - it doesn't really add anything to a post or point. I agree nonetheless it doesn't look good for Nintendo - just hope it's only a small issue not affecting too many units. @Aneres11 I'd wonder if it could be a hardware/batch fault that wasn't present in the previous units so may have missed it there. Do we actually know how many systems it has affected? Certainly not good to have a reviewer tweeting it making games unplayable
  9. Quite. Better put than I probably could have - and hopefully people will give this post some notice and take it on board. I am getting tired of the personal stuff. Don't call people names(however inoffensive you think it might be) and avoid attacking people. Attack arguments and points and offer counterarguments. Agree to disagree where you can't do otherwise. Try to accept points even if you can't understand them, rather than dismissing them. Mod warning: Posts I see that are solely complaints about complaints, or posts that are attacking people personally or calling names will be edited/deleted and the poster banned from this thread for a week without further warning. 'It was a joke' will not be any valid defence.
  10. No I'm not. You are giving Nintendo your money, therefore buying their "bs". Can I point out that you've almost literally just said you know what liger is going to enjoy better than he will? You've insisted you're correct on your opinion of his being and self as a person and what he enjoys? I'm sure it wasn't intended like that, but it certainly does read like that to me. Can nobody see how unproductive comments/stuff like these are? Why attack the 'person' buying/not buying the system rather than discuss the system and its pros/cons or the points people are making? I remain convinced it's what leads to so much tension here. To say you don't understand something is one thing, to dismiss it is something else - especially when so much of this comes down to opinions or feelings where there is very rarely a right or wrong. Anyhow, I digress. Tbh with you I think the worse candidates for the complaining and entitlement are probably actually the ones who are refusing to buy the system but still complaining(such as myself !) about it - surely if you buy/support a product you've a right to evaluate it and judge it?! Besides which if they're not then it leads me rather to wonder why statutory consumer rights exist in our law! Switch is doing some good things, Switch is doing some not so good things or rather just isn't doing the good things. It isn't all black and white, yes or no, hate or love. I struggle to understand how people are managing to simplify the issue to such a fine point when I really cannot see it, nor even feel it myself as someone with interest in the system.
  11. What's the mentality that consumers are apparently NOT allowed to complain? Or hell, just people complaining generally? Believe it or not, people DO have that right; and it doesn't make it an 'entitled gamer mentality' either. Sure, no VC may not be a big deal to you. The online may not be a big deal to you. The games may not be a big deal to you. Just because these things aren't a big deal to you, why can't they be to someone else? Not everyone is buying system for 100% exactly the same reasons. As for the repeated question of 'why buy it if it doesn't have what you want' - I ask again, what if it's not the simple? The system does enough for some people at the price it's retailing for that they will buy it(and conversely not for a number of people, too) - just because you might like more doesn't mean you don't want the thing at all. Why does this argument keep getting posed so dichotomously? Like it has to be all or nothing? Who really approaches or thinks about much in life like that? Also saying that people paid their pre-orders 'knowing' that they weren't getting the VC isn't particularly fair - a very large number of people put pre-orders on this system despite not knowing very many things as this thread has shown(online setup and support, accounts and purchases, online cost, voice chat, virtual console etc to name a few). It's due with us in pretty much a week and you have to admit there's still a number of unknowns and uncertainties around the system - if you want to ask any questions of what other consoles I'd dare ask if any other console launch of the last few gens has felt so unknown or so uncertain so close to release date? Ronnie also promised me a direct by now - but I've yet to see it. What basis does one have for suggesting they're 'likely overhauling it'? That's just some blind/hopeful assumption from what I can see. Besides which as Blade already said - it's not like they haven't HAD time. What have they been doing with it all this while, and if they still need more time why are they rushing a product to launch if they still need that time to work on its features??
  12. Meep-morp....bweeeee!
  13. Streetpass and Miicerse bother me a bit as I thought both were great, lack of video/internet apps doesn't affect me but can certainly see the issue and don't agree with it. VC we'll just have to wait and see about, similar to the online.
  14. Looks like it's a 6-30 character limit so you're good...but I once again am not!
  15. Godammit despite my previous good intentions I totally missed this. Slightly gutted tbh! Stardew Valley was my temptation plus a few others, but I guess I'll just end up getting it on PS4 after Zelda now. When did the damn thing end??
  16. As a brown kid I've never been too big on my knowledge of older music - though I know Jim Morrison and The Doors's names, I don't know faces too well to recognise them! I wondered if it was some old and famous folk, but my mate keeps going on about Mac DeMarco in the last few years and maybe he took some heavy inspiration from Jim(the Morrison kind, not the Flink kind). Ofc I've seen a lot more of the latter than the former due to YouTubes etc...he does look rather similar to that gif/pic though!
  17. If anything with it being more of an open-world design that hopefully won't happen as much, and your idle wandering will find you embarking on new mini-adventures!
  18. I've not used the XBone interfact much so can't really comment on that, but DazzeL does kinda sum up my thoughts; Being unintrusive and being light on features don't have to go hand in hand, I'd like a system with lots of options but that's still slick and easy to navigate. As said I'd prefer the Switch is simple by design rather than due to being basic on features!
  19. Surely Zelda's going to be enough to keep you busy for that week?! I'm planning to do nothing but play Zelda and sit on PS4 chat in all my gaming time, possibly dipping into Overwatch from time to time for a break - but I think for the first time in possibly ever I'm planning to smash out BotW as fast as I can to avoid falling off/getting bored etc. As for your PS4 backlog you've certainly got enough to dip into with The Witcher alone! Admittedly I feel off as I found it a bit overwhelming - but surely something like Second Son is pretty pick-up-and-play-esque? His face keeps bothering me and it's completely topic-irrelevant but is that Mac DeMarco?
  20. When I first got my PS4 I did contemplate a Vita and then a PSTV for the remote play aspects of the system - the real issues were obviously the data transfer aspects for one, but also that I don't have so much of commute times these days to really make the most of the cost. For your commutes it'd be ideal if the battery holds out(and obvs you can charge once in at work for the journey back home) and makes pretty good sense. I think what tempts me about the Switch over a PS4/Vita combo is that you don't need the extra faff of wifi/mobile etc and the system itself is there with you. I just got my Wii U back yesterday in prep for BotW - I'm thinking of setting up in my bedroom rather than living room and using it mostly as an Off-TV device when I'm in bed and watching other crap. Not sure if I'll stick with it, but with Zelda coming I'm thinking about when/where will be best to be playing it without the Switch!
  21. Would one really consider this an accurate description of the PS4 interface, or a potential exaggeration? I can say I personally find it contrary to having 'a million different directions' nor layers, sub menus, tiers(all similar synonyms I feel describing the same thing, and many of them not neccessary in day to day usage), CERTAINLY not right clicks, and apps?? Do you mean...just stuff that's on there? So if I couldn't see what was on there how else would I be accessing it...? I find the PS4 interface slick - I come home and turn it on, I press X to sign-in as me, hit the right stick once or twice hit the game I'm after and BAM! I'm in. Whilst the game is booting and loading I can then hit my home button for my interface overlay that lets me see what friends are online and other quick menu options etc. Again a lot of this comes to the slickness and speed as liger has also mentioned. Sure, the PS4 may have plenty of options - but does one ever really get encumbered by them? I don't personally have that problem at all. What I like is that I get into my games fast, and I get into the things I want to do around that quick and without much issue too. For what? The Switchverse potential or reveals/marketing? The latter is bizarre, especially as it seems a number of old fans are very much on the fence regarding a number of aspects - it's still marketing that could work for them in covincing those over for another initial boost in sales and install base than can then be later built upon on various fronts. We don't have to worry too much about them not revealing things though - as I recall @Ronnie promised me and kav we'd get our direct about Online features before the system is out, not to mention the ultimate authority in @Serebii telling us we'd also get a direct before release(though I'd argue we're past his timeframe). We should just chill out and wait for the directs to roll in
  22. Personally agree myself, though reassured to see the OS doesn't seem too cumbersome in its movements compared to Wii U's. Given the generally positive reaction I'm seeing to those videos here - I'm still left wondering why it is Nintendo aren't revealing these things themselves with literally just 2 weeks to go until release of the product I personally did find it a bit slow - tbh I'd have engaged more with Miiverse if it didn't feel so cumbersome to switch into. I was hoping that they might re-brand the thing for Switch(Switchverse can work just as well) and maybe add some new functionality etc - so a little sad to see there's still no sign of similar on the horizon; probably one of the better implementations made for the WiiU imo.
  23. Don't know anything about it but I'm certainly getting a bit tempted by it all. I've noticed a few titles have 'sold out' for new customers so they must have had limited keys/deals with the makers or something; makes me want to grab it sooner rather than later just in case! Think it's still got 6 days on it gonna give it some thought by the weekend. Saved some money on my Overwatch loot boxes by buying less and getting some extra work so maybe I'll turn it just to this to start out with Stardew Valley and maybe double dip on PS4 later. Just want to actually boot steam for the first time in forever and see what games I actually already have from the bundle on there...
  24. I've not played it but I have harvest mooned a bit back in the day - everything I hear about this sounds like it's Harvest Moon but more. More depth, more options, and as sort of said it's the game made on modern hardware where there's more possibilities. For the price vs time you'll probably get out of it it sounds pretty good - I'm just waiting til after BotW to get it.
  25. For you that's understandable but I'm not sure if by saying that you're trying to imply others are feeling that way towards switch and is a point I keep trying to make. For someone like kav(and many others) the system isn't 'completely failing' to grasp their interest. What if it's failing on some points whilst simultaneously succeeding on some? What does one do if one is not wholly for, nor wholly against, thr system but is on the balance of probabilities more towards one side than the other but still remaining a mix of both?
