  1. Whaaaaaaaat! That's some crazy value right in there. Hell, if this was on PS4 I'd be snapping it up in no time! Having said that I'm still very tempted to induldge nonetheless. I don't really game on PC at all, but that's quite a few tidy titles that I wouldn't mind having the chance of playing any time I like. May have to finally get round to installing Windows on this laptop or something for some of them! Stardew Valley, Stanley Parable, Octodad and The Witness mostly taking my fancy so far. Anyone recommend anything else tucked away in there?
  2. I was really hoping they'd open up the gender options with the main character in this one - but I hope it's something they DO do in future. I wouldn't buy DLC just to see it though. In fact I might as well throw my hat into the ring of stating that I'm very much against this DLC. I never thought I'd see it with Zelda, and I don't think the relative value of that DLC compared to the price of the game is really going to be there. Agree with Nicktendo that it also feels somewhat devaluing already. Another pre-pay buy-in for something you don't fully know about until later either.
  3. I'd ask why the latter seems so illogical to yourself when, as I understand, did you not buy a Wii U 2-3 times? If you can see a logic to the thought process there, I see a similarity here. Of course everyone's logic is different, despite the idea that it's presented as entirely objective, so it may just be a case of differing views on the two. People have got varying likes/dislikes for this system. If you're going to eventually get a Switch for maybe Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, XC2, other titles etc(as Kav is planning from what he said) - why not jump in on the early point to have the experience whilst it's novel? When I bought my WiiU later than release, it wasn't neccessarily for the system as it was at the time - it was because I saw a good deal for a system I knew I'd eventually want to get/buy for games such as Zelda(delayed until now annoyingly), Smash, XCX etc. I could wait a year for the system and possibly pay less, or maybe even pay the same price(not since seen a premium WiiU for £200 either) but why wait until it's EXACTLY what you want, if you're fairly convinced it will become it later on and you can experience the other bits in the interim now? Even if you buy and sell on - it could theoretically be like a cheap/long rental. Personally, I should make sense to yourself though as I won't get a Switch at its price for what it's currently offering. I *would* get it at £200 - does it change any of my other thoughts on it? Does it make them lesser or more? No, it's one of many aspects that's influencing my decision and I think it's not easy to think that the Switch should either be a full on buy or no buy - some people are simply at varying levels of being in the middle. Some of those middlers are closer to the buy on launch, some the other end - but it's not just one or the other imo. Tbh a positive that should be taken for Nintendo is that they're still holding some of the interest of so many people who seem burned or worried about the system - how often do you otherwise see people extolling potential flaws of a product yet still wanting to buy it at launch??
  4. 'Does have' and 'likely good' hardly mean the same thing though, do they? Nobody's making a falsely dichotomous argument saying it will have NO online. The fact is we simply don't know enough about the online to fully comment. However from the tidbits I see us getting, such as that mentioned re: Splatton, seem to indicate it won't be on par with the standards many of has have come to accept as established since even the PS3/360. Sure - we may still be wrong, but there's so far very little evidence to the contrary, and some to support the fact it might not be there. If you're wanting to have a private conversation/dicsussion without me - then do it privately. However last I checked this was a discussion forum - and as has been repeatedly stated people should be able to discuss as they wish, whether you feel it fits your current agenda. Both points are relevant to mine about local multiplayer of old possibly not meeting the needs or wants of the current age - unless you'd somehow like to explain how they aren't I'll happily accept whatever your point was with this as moot. EDIT: Even more relevant as kav has actually gone on to make the same point in regards to local play on his Wii U. So clearly I was extremely irrelevant to this supposed private discussion I'm allowed no part of
  5. Don't get me wrong - I think Towerfall is a great and fun multiplayer experience(and a definite missed trick with no online) but I don't know if I'd go so far as to put it in the same leagues as Smash! Why presume when you could go crazy and read someone's posts comprehensively before replying? It raises a point however that's been raised before though. You can ask about local multiplayer experiences in the current day and age - but for the majority of us here we've been gamers a long while and we've grown up and moved on - what about the fact that actually getting these local multiplayer experiences together is just probably not as practical as it once was? One thing the Switch potentially fixes is that with its portability and local multiplayer - though that will also depend heavily on the system being a success and having enough local friends to make the most of it. I'd definitely, for myself at least, prefer having an on-par online multiplayer system now than a banging local multiplayer infrastructure - simply because I think the former is much more relevant in the current day and age. Exactly this for me. Why must it be one thing or the other, rather than both? If forcibly given the choice then my situation takes online over local, but I really think both should be made equally as important and implemented as such.
  6. I already addressed this once in recent weeks but I'm saying it one last time - stop making posts in here that are just complaining about complaining. Don't complain(alolol) you weren't warned(twice) when I take any action.
  7. We never truly know the price they buy in at and there could be all sorts of reasons. Don't forget they've already got a tarnished reputation(many here avoided against after the Switch reveal conference despite the price), they could have some weird secret trial deal with Nintendo or something that's given them an edge(rather speculative/conspiracy-esque), or maybe they're just taking a hit hoping to make a nice profit on the extras. Consider that BotW was said to be £60 and is already cheaper from some other places - maybe they knew they could make a nice profit on that and other games? Maybe it's a good place to take a hit and just secure some good future business, especially going back to their current reputation? They also take money up front - who knows if they try to make more money off of just simply having your money too! Could be all sorts of reasons, or just nothing at all - and I doubt we'll ever find out the truth! Nonetheless, I'd buy at the price despite being well aware of the risks of Gameseek - I just feel confident enough that I'd know I'd be able to pursue it enough to get my money back if they fuck it all up and am not in a rush for the system so that's kinda fine by me. Also at the price if it turns out to be something not for me I know I'll stand a better chance recouping my money down the line if I opt to sell it on too. The WiiU definitely had its sleep/rest mode with the orange light and as kav says I'm sure it could download stuff in that - but I think it was limited to game and system updates and possibly not on the same extent as that of the PS4(can't say about XBOne as I don't have one). I don't think it has the ability to log onto the web store and buy/download and push that through to a download queue though - I know with PS4(if you've got rest mode setup) you can do that; and I'd like to hope/think maybe the Switch can do the same to some extent. Of course it's a bit more redundant with the Switch as if you're taking it out and about with you as a portable then you surely needn't be remotely pushing stuff to it in that instance!
  8. Wow, hadn't realised it never got its own thread in here! Strange cos as you've said lots of people owning/talking about/enjoying it! Makes sense for my post to go here now... I think it sounds like a great example of what we can do with increased power if we aren't just turning it to graphics etc. Taking old formulae and implementing them with lesser limits on the current tech and seeing what you can do with it. Coming from a fan-made imitation sort of perspective as well I think you'd see a lot of love and subtleties put into the detail of the game that you might not always get so much with bigger titles. The game really does sound right up my street - I love stuff with multiple options and variance but I think that's my real concern for getting it - I'll probably end up loving it too much and sink all my hours into it just like many of the folks here!
  9. You realise we're already in the Switch thread, right? :p Interesting mention about Gameseek keeping their low pre-order price. I'm wondering if they might even attempt to retail at that, or still lower than competition, post-release? £200 is definitely the right mark for this for me - and if I see it for that in the next year that I'll probably get it. Probably not going to get Switch Zelda either way, but I'd be interested in Splatoon or Mario coming within a year, and possibly XC2. Still need to play XCX at some point though.
  10. I'm not reading voice chat with randoms between much of those lines - and I find it strange they're making points about that and not the other issues highlighted by others too. The loadouts, matchmaking waits, unbalanced teams etc, 4 hour map slots etc are all very notable issues that I'd either take fixes for over limited voice chat, or alternatively a full voice chat option so you can let people you're playing with know what's going on when you're forced to navigate around those flaws!
  11. Also seconding the recommendation to avoid Very. I once got a groupon deal with them(something like £20 for a £40 off £40+ spend voucher if all spent in one transaction) but because they didn't have an item in stock it didn't make the £40 and they charged me individually with each dispatch and then I had a bit of a hassle getting my money back/voucher honoured even tho they actually always had the item in stock - for some stupid reason I was either forced me into buying something different to make up the total to £40 just to use my voucher thing or I had to re-order and fight with them to get it back. They really didn't make it very easy - even though all I was trying to do really was spend my money!

    Arms

Do you know weirdly, I think I kinda know where you're coming from. I mostly bought MK8 just to get WWHD for free - and whilst MK8 was certainly quite a nice new game and whatnot - too much of it just felt done already. Basically just a bit of polish on something tried and tested with a premium price tag for it. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the kinda of art style/graphics of Mario/Nintendo games in their vibrancy; but sometimes I feel like it isn't really doing much more than just that. Having said that I'm still more of a gameplay man, and thinking back to Wii Sports Boxing has got me intrigued by Arms(if I were to get a Switch) but I have to wonder if it's got enough legs(alololol)) to carry it through as a well selling title.

    Destiny

I'm glad to hear that! I fell off this and was going to get back in with RoI but didn't really have enough compelling me to - just felt like there was no reason to play except to buy RoI really. I think getting in on Destiny 2 from scratch with everyone here is going to make a much bigger difference to my playtime for the game; even though I completely realise that much of destiny is just chasing LL for the sake of it quite a lot :p
  14. I keep thinking I'll wait for it in a sale but that's probably because I'm spoilt by Steam/digital distribution. I don't even boot Steam anymore due to the sheer amount of money I kept spending on games I never played - thinking I'll get Stardew Valley eventually but with Zelda on the horizon and Overwatch still keeping my fancy quite well I've got no particular urgency about it atm. Maybe one for the summer!
  15. Personally I'd put one down with Amazon if they have stock - can't say 100% why but I've always found them both big and reliable. If was getting/wanting one in 3 weeks I'd go for them.
  16. I'd imagine @Ashley or one of the reviewers might have a good idea?
  17. I presumed it might be some behind the scenes deal - is it just coming to PS4 and Switch but not XBone? Wondered if maybe they promised it to PS4 first and then got tied into charging more for Switch to not undermine it. Pure speculation on my part though mind. The original DS used to just work with a number of hotspots when Nintendo did their partnership thingy with them(I know it worked in wetherspoons at least) for the wifi zone without needing to do the browser sign-in - I'd wonder/hope they're considering something similar again. EDIT: Also - the app might totally take care of that side of things for you - so you'd be signing in on your smartphone etc.

This place, man. Seriously, I'm getting really done with all of this. You guys know where you're wrong and pushing things - just stop doing it. I'm going to moderate the crap out of this thread onwards from this post tomorrow(maybe even retroactively, cos hell let's all just do what we want without regard for anyone else). I may even ban people from the thread too, and I'm going to do so completely indiscriminately entirely at my own discretion because I'm fed up to fuck with trying to work you all here. I'm just done. Sort yourselves out, be civil, discuss games and not each other. EDIT: Fair warning - don't reply/respond to this in this thread. I don't care how/if/why you're doing it - I see a response to this posted in this thread - I'm banning you from the thread. If you have an issue, post on my wall or PM me - as ever I don't aim to stifle discussion and welcome it in the public domain on my wall if you wish, but will also take PMs if preferred. No responses in this thread, though. Keep it Yooka-Laylee. Good, bad, indifferent, I don't care. Just keep it about the game.

I'd say there's possibly a bit more variance and character in the Rare games of old(BK, DK64) compared to their counterpart of say SM64. Don't get me wrong, there certainly was character in SM64 with some of the bosses, bob-ombs, toads scattered around, the rabbit(s), Bowser's little speeches through the castle, secrets etc - but I think when I consider SM64 vs say BK64 the latter felt more of a 'story' sort of feel; almost like a little bit of a fairy tale. SM64 almost felt rather like just the means to the end - a mechanic for the sake of it. I liked them both for different reasons - and whilst I didn't appreciate Rare's offerings quite as much back in the day with time I've grown to like them a bit more with time. SM64 felt possibly a bit more clinical - but for what it did it did it very well.
  20. Belated birthday wishes Eenuh!
  21. Just like the official store isn't their problem either, right? I'm still in agreement nonetheless - they really should show more. All I really know about this system is that it plays games, has these detachable controllers with 'HD rumble', and can both dock to TV and go in handheld. Everything else, other than the announced titles, still feels too rocky to me due to how little they're giving on the details. I can't see why you'd do that from the point of view of trying to sell thing - so I have to wonder what other reason it could be and naturally that leads me to concern that it might be something more problematic.
  22. Yeah...defied all Nintendo's expectations...in a bad way!! I don't think Switch will be as bad as WiiU initially, but it needs some momentum built and kept. Whether they choose to start that later in the year when there's more content/online etc, we'll see. I'm losing more faith and interest by the day though.
  23. You're not the only ones - http://www.thememo.com/2017/01/25/3d-tvs-festering-corpse-is-dead-and-buried/ (glad to see you didn't get one!)
  24. Maybe there wasn't any on TV, but how can you possibly say they didn't bother when they bought us this clear and excellent piece of...marketing? The fact that TVii is on there and we're still awaiting an online app/service that we know incredibly little about is one of the big reasons I'm wary of Switch on launch/until we see more. It's just like Online being the air they breathe, along with their unprecedented partnership with EA.

Haha, was one of my first in HD too! I'd certainly not mind if Rare came up - the only problem is being a non-Microsoft gamer now I'd pretty much miss out on their stuff unless Microsoft(somewhat sensibly) opted to let them release multi-platform. They could make a killing form the PS4 install base. Or maybe if Playtonic really take off we might see a few more from the Rare team move over - I wouldn't be surprised if it's something some of them are considering or thinking about on either side. Obvs I'm not saying it'd be good for Rare or Microsoft for all of Rare's old talent to leave - but if the more of them back together in a team again the more excited I get!
