Just seen it. I knew it wasn't going to be quite as superhero-ey as most of the other marvel films but I still very much enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised. Knee nothing of the plot details really and was happy to see a character or two in it! I'll probs write up a better and less vague(but spoilered) post tmw or so! Very good film tho - recommend it highly but just add the caveat it's possibly not as comic booky as you might otherwise be expecting, yet still a fairly decent film experience* hopefully. (*Too marvel biased to judge truly objectively :P)

Fair point - for me it needs to be pocketable tho! The other argument that comes in which I recall some made before comes back to the issue of lack of browser - would you carry this AND a tablet like an iPad at the same time? Really it's me and my situations - if I was in Kav's position I'd have a Switch in a heartbeat as I'd get so much more out of it all along the way.
-
Buuuut...What if you ain't carrying a bag :P? If I had an iPad I know I probably wouldn't take it out with me a lot of the time if I had to stick it in a bag - either because I don't have a bag or I don't trust carrying that level of tech around not on my immediate person!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Find me a site with an equally good or better structured review and I'll gladly jump ship I just think a single X/10 score is simply just too shallow to surmise a game really. Rarely does anyone look for just one thing in their games - so why do so many outlets insist or summarising it with a 10 point scale?! -
What if you ain't carrying a bag? I often still carry my original OoT 3ds for my steps and possible streetpasses(which seem less frequent than they used to but meh) but that is just about right for an excellent pocket size not to mention clamshell obvs almost protects the screen in itself - I don't know what I'd be doing if I had a Switch to carry with me instead. Already both my 3DS shoulder buttons have broken/only work very rarely - and I'm convinced that's related to me carrying it round so often. I don't know if I'd dare risk a Switch screen etc but if I'm putting a case on that already rather large bad boy then I don't exactly know where I'm going to be carrying the thing!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

To be truly honest with you since I've been browsing this site for the last whatever many years I've yet to find a review system I prefer more that N-Europe's. It's further helped by the fact I obviously know a bit about the reviewers now - but I think the n-europe structure of a detailed written review, a summary score but most importantly the multi-aspect subscoring of what you'd kind of look for in a game really does tick the boxes for a good review. Don't know who/if anyone is reviewing this for the site or the version but it's probably going to be the only one I contemplate reading. -
Given the semi-tangential debates about why people are buying, I have to say that your situation certainly makes a ton of sense to me - were I in a similar situation I'd have the Switch in a heartbeat; but without that commute time I need to consider what it's offering over my other living room experiences ATM. Ofc I don't mod here but I do echo Shorty's sentiments on the post' beginnings. I know this thread came up for a number of reasons but we don't need to keep perpetuating them! Just airing my thoughts here, mind. I share your sentiments on the reviews I think. What's reassuring however is that the 'good' is pretty hardware based which ideally shouldn't change much, and the bad is essentially lack of software for said hardware that will hopefully be able to be resolved with time. My main worries/concerns after Wii U is that they won't do enough with this to build and keep momentum even in the face of poor sales if they occur - but seeing their marketing, attempts at indie engagement and 'curation', plus potential upcoming titles and possibilities I'm hoping they really have learnt their lesson and act upon it this time round. I can easily wait a year or so for Switch for this reassurance whilst I've got my ps4 and other distractions.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Many have drawn the parallels of it going back to its roots like that - even in this thread too! I don't think many are thinking of it as the 'first' but that it's more open than any Zelda has been in a long while, maybe? I think it's going to be interesting and certainly something Aonuma has been working towards for a while - ALBW felt like a bit of an experiment with the idea to me, though not without some shortcomings. -
A bit like @Daft i'm thinking that the Switch money I'd spend could easily go towards a PSVR(which I tried briefly for the first time last sat, on a resi demo I think? Was an interesting experience!) - but I feel like despite it being more novel and more interesting that I currently want VR less that I'd want a Switch, albeit for similar reasons of it not really doing enough for me for the price at the moment etc. Thinking about the Switch cost in context of other things the money could buy keeps raising a strange perspective of contradiction in my mind - how do Nintendo manage to still do this to me!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Tbh I think the arguments can be made infinitely either way. For example you could argue that Nintendo have more game-making experience than RockStar not to mention it being their hardware so it shouldn't be excusable etcetc. Personally I imagine as I said I won't even notice it anyway - plus those Alanah Pearce(no idea who that is) comments seem to suggest it's minimal too. Errr...wat?? When did you pre-order your copy, presuming you did?? I did mine the day after the Switch conference because I was worried about exactly this sort of thing! Hope it doesn't affect me, starting to get used to the idea of playing it this soon...! -

Just seen this - 'joking' doesn't cut it and yellow infraction issued. Less of this sort of thing please, everyone. Edit: for those who miss the issue - stop making arguments about people personally. I realise the line between commenting on someone's opinions and commenting on them as people is a thin one but I also think most of us here are old enough to know where it roughly is and I'm getting tired of seeing it and being ignored every time I ask for it to cease. It does little to nothing to foster a good community or relations with each other and the last few posts illustrate how it isn't beneficial to threads or discussions either. -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Tbh that's fair enough as it'll come in at my parents' anyhow and I'm pretty busy but was curious - but was hoping I could sneak in a starter sesh on maybe Thursday eve! May take a full- or half-day or two off work for it next week though, just settle in for a proper heavy day or so on it. I'm weirdly both excited and indifferent for/to the game at the same time. Feeling like it's definitely going to be a bit different once I get my hands on it - plus it helps not having too high expectations so far that it may very well pleasantly surprise me! -
Seems to me that a few of the fence adopters are intrigued by the tech more than anything else. I must be honest the idea of it does certainly appeal to me too, though HD rumble and NFC/amiibo don't fuss me so much; and the uncertainties around online and general success/support of the console after the Wii U is still leaving me rather weary combined with the price it's at. Tbh even at £200 it seems mad I'd drop money on something not supported to the extent I might like - but that's about my mark on what I'd pay for the experience atm. If I compare it to what I could buy for similar vs the competition I start to think it's a bit of a silly, even if I can't shift it!

I've got a weird kinda kitchen-specific carpety thing in mine I think(came with the house) - not so food stained per se but definitely holds some other mystery stains on it! I've got carpet in my damn bathroom too - whilst it's kinda nice for the feet I certainly wouldn't consider either in the future for when I get the rooms done!
-
It doesn't, but Nintendo have previously stated it's a home console not a handheld - so if finger pointing needs to be made it should really be at them. I think it was silly of them to fall down on either side of the debate tbh.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

I'd dare say you're only really going to notice the differences if you're getting/playing both versions. May just be me though - but I don't particularly consciously notice all these little differences in framerates etc - a bit of weak graphics don't bother me it's only if it's causing a slowdown that I find noticeable really. On another note - those familiar with Amazon should I get any hopes up of possibly getting this game BEFORE Friday, or is it likely to be a Friday delivery? I'm both hyped and lazy at the same time right now - but I think having it in my bedroom over living room should hopefully make a big difference. -
Nice! Got some CEX credit on a receipt thing somewhere and kept saying I'd use it on a retail Tearaway to play and lend - glad its possibly coming to PS+ instead now! Don't know anything about Disc Jam though.
-
I've followed literally nothing on this game but it seems to be popping into a number of recent conversations - can anyone sum up why I want/need this game in my life? I'm under the impression it's getting good vibes, but I recall next to nothing about it and kinda feel like attempting to stay spoiler-free (if applicable).

I think it's going to slowly amount to more than a drop in the ocean. It's clear even just from the community here that you're not the only one with that feeling about Nintendo - I've personally taken the same approach since the WiiU where I felt the product again wasn't doing enough for me at the price. I can definitely see where @Choze is coming from on the potential for sales - this has got some interesting hype and it's got quite a large release stock from the bits I was reading trying to find out about previous launch consoles etc. However I do think hype doesn't always translate and I'm worried that'll be the case here again; I'm wondering how many of those pre-orders are actually all going to sell through and not end up on eBay etc right afterwards. I think scalpers will still be targetting Nintendo hardware(also wonder if this happened and threw them off with WiiU) and I think they'll target Switch as well. I think other than people here I so far know one person definitely getting a Switch on Friday - but he's a big and lifetime sort of Nintendo gamer like us too. The only other person I've seen/met who wanted to get it was my mate's little cousin a few weeks ago - interestingly enough I'd say she's definitely not the sort to fit into 'our' demographic as it were; so it's interesting to see there's still multiple levels of appeal from Nintendo's products. Would you get one eventually, though? Is it worth having now(whilst there's still an arguable number of uncertainties around the console) or worth waiting for? I picked up my Wii U on eventual promise of games(Smash, XCX, Zelda...), and because it was the right price at the time and I thought to myself that paying a little more to have it a year or two sooner wasn't too bad. However Switch isn't doing it for me at the current price, and I don't see myself getting too much other use out of it myself if I got one now. If I were in @Kav's position of having a long commute each day I'd very likely pick one up now for the value it can give me on those journeys right now! Sadly I don't think it's so applicable when a lot of your commuting is driving one's self...

I didn't even consider the idea of having/not having the map on a second screen. Small but notable for Splatoon imo - thanks for the thoughts @Mr\-Paul! I think seeing more of Splatwoon is really going to be a big bit of the Switch for me after the first.
-
Been waiting for your hands-on Mr-paul, thanks for that. Most of what I kinda expected but the above caught my interest - how much of Splatoon did you actually get to play? New map(s)? What was different on the weapons front? Splatoon's one of the big draws for me for the system, though with the unknown Online at the moment and if it's not doing much new then it could be a big blow to my interest for it down the line

I think we're on different pages here as I'd resolutely stick a 'U' after the Wii in your post if it were mine :p We still need figures to compare to anyhow! Couldn't look properly earlier due to being at work and the filters make so much stuff a pain. Had a quick look now but reckon I still need to research a bit more as most of what I find refers to 'best-selling' rather than fastest-selling; can't find any comparison for what's done 5mil except some reference to the 3DS doing 5million in Japan alone in 52 weeks. Unrelated fact though - was in Sainsburys earlier and perusing the games aisle for the games I never play, sitting just opposite their wall of TVs. Then I hear a familiar ding, and it's Switch?! Turns out it was just a Switch video and branded thing to say you can pre-order at Sainsburys; but was quite interesting to see it being pushed in that manner! Don't know if it's just a general thing Sainsburys do or what but I've not particularly noticed that stuff before! EDIT: Best so far is VGChartz - is a graph and not clear figures and obviously not sure how/when/where sourced. Wii looks like the steepest start of all the lines, followed by PS4 - but I'm just judging that by eye. http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_date.php?reg=Global&ending=Yearly Nope those lines look too dodgy for me - especially considering the PS4's apparently starts before it was even out?!
-
Whilst I'm certainly not gaming as much as you guys here(so not noticed this apparently splurge of good games) I do find myself increasingly thinking about what I could do with the Switch money instead of a Switch. How many downloadable titles I fancy on PS4 but not at the current price etc; maybe a big retail game or two...just possibilities! Having said that I don't think I've bought anything retail or played much else since Overwatch was in my hands. Ofc I still think I'm going to get a Switch at some point, so I'm trying to remain behaved; but I do wonder how much further £300 could go elsewhere! I think as well that @Daft raises quite an interesting point about later in the year when a number of big releases are upon us - will Nintendo be able to remain sensible in that market? I can certainly see a peak in alternative console sales with Destiny 2 coming given some were still playing D1 on last gen's systems, no? Ni No Kuni will no doubt do well, but I'm not sure if it'll match/beat the first's. There's a game I'd love to see on Switch nonetheless though - probably one I'd likely play a lot more with portability too. Interesting thought - though I disagree. I think it'll do well with its initial spurt similar to the WiiU but then stall, hard. Maybe we'll see things pick up later in the year with other releases but also see above. Out of interest when do you see it hitting the 5mil/10mil marks? What sort of timeframe is it competing against in former released consoles?
-
@Serebii please avoid telling people to calm down - it doesn't really add anything to a post or point. I agree nonetheless it doesn't look good for Nintendo - just hope it's only a small issue not affecting too many units. @Aneres11 I'd wonder if it could be a hardware/batch fault that wasn't present in the previous units so may have missed it there. Do we actually know how many systems it has affected? Certainly not good to have a reviewer tweeting it making games unplayable

Quite. Better put than I probably could have - and hopefully people will give this post some notice and take it on board. I am getting tired of the personal stuff. Don't call people names(however inoffensive you think it might be) and avoid attacking people. Attack arguments and points and offer counterarguments. Agree to disagree where you can't do otherwise. Try to accept points even if you can't understand them, rather than dismissing them. Mod warning: Posts I see that are solely complaints about complaints, or posts that are attacking people personally or calling names will be edited/deleted and the poster banned from this thread for a week without further warning. 'It was a joke' will not be any valid defence.
