Cool! Shiekah's got my number but I'll also PM it to you @Mr\-Paul in case you need us on the day - unlikely that you'd struggle to find us in there though; think we've got a 20 strong crowd so far! We coincidentally got Marc somewhat inebriated yesterday with many ices(see below) and I accidentally helped throw his Colin the Caterpillar cake on the floor - still a funny night all round and the cake survived and filled some bellies! I was having such a good time I forgot to take any photos though!

Mod Note:Keep it Switch related please guys. I haven't time to moderate today but I don't want the thread to get off-topic due to it. I'm more than happy hear/have the discussions; but can I ask if it's something ongoing you either PM me or post on my visitor wall if you'd rather it was in the public sphere - just preferably not here right now. Thanks. No warnings for posts after this that opt to continue it.

I don't want to take the conversation quite into this sphere but bear with me. My objection to your post however is going to be in-line with another issue that raises its head on the forums and goes to Ashley's post in the main switch thread - about shutting down conversations. For me, it feels, that for you to quote my words and say that it's simply not that word even though it seems valid within a definition(see below) and others seem to share a similar sentiment - comes across as an attempt to shutdown the conversation. You made no attempt to address my use of the word except to put it in quotes and say that it isn't the case. How does that offer a further development or progress to the conversation? Should the reaction of myself be 'but it is'? How should one react? That's not a discussion imo. I don't particularly want to argue about whether or not you actually were shutting down the conversation, as I don't believe it was your intention but I do feel that the post serves those ends whether realised or not and it's something to be mindful of. I'd suggest thinking about the language used to construct a post, and ask every poster to think 'How would somebody react to this? How would *I* react to this?' - if you don't think it's going to further develop or foster good quality conversation then consider thinking twice or reworking before posting. Ofc, I'm not here to dictate to everybody how to post and nobody has any obligation to follow me in this particular request - but if we could be mindful of what might be the reactions to our posts when we make them and consider that, we can hopefully all work towards trying to create a more positive environment for discussions within these boards. To bring it back to point - To take a quick google definition of oversight I find the following - 'noun 1. an unintentional failure to notice or do something.' Did they unintentionally fail to notice this? Well, it seems so given that expected testing procedures should find it. I would certainly expect standard testing procedures to have found this flaw - why it did not I cannot say, but it certainly comes across as quite an oversight to me. If you're able to offer me an explanation as to how or why I might be mistaken on this I'm happy to have that conversation - but I didn't find that in the original post and wonder where my response should essentially go next in line with that.

Why isn't it an oversight if it's happening to a number of people? Did people intentionally damage their own docks to cause this? Surely this is exactly the point of testing. For it to be missed is, imo, a definite oversight.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Not jumping into the whole debate on genres again - but I really don't think 'open-world' should be counted as one. As the last few posts highlight - both BotW and The Witcher are 'open-world' but beyond that I'd call them incredibly different to such an extent comparisons aren't going to hold so much weight for me. As mentioned the verticality of exploration and going anywhere you like in BotW is really, really, cool - I just feel like Witcher goes for something completely different. As would GTA, WatchDogs, Horizon I presume and all sorts of other open world titles. I realise I'm getting off the Zelda point but could you even include yooka-laylee in this if it does its approach in a way that you are free to explore/accidentally get the wrong objective like in SM64? It's open world of sorts - but completely different gameplay really. Don't get me wrong about my criticisms against BotW btw - I think it's still a very decent game for the bits it does right and any gamer should try and experience it at some point. I don't think I've had a feeling as free as this for a long time - and I've flogged the horse to death and will continue to do so but giving the player freedom and options in games to make everyone's experience slightly varied really appeals to me. -
Does that mean I can have your username :p?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I personally found the Witcher fun but a bit overwhelming, and thus didn't really stick it out. I was getting all this stuff but not really understanding it and the weapon wear there kinda bugged me too. I maybe only gave it a few hours and just fell off(will go back to it some day I'm sure) - I'll say in Zelda's defence having given them both a similar amount of time that Zelda's at least felt more compelling to me so far. Witcher felt more indepth/polished though maybe. I think it's really just different strokes for different folks(as is so often the case) - but I didn't take much to The Witcher anyhow so I'll be offering a much lesser opinion that those who've played more of it. -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

I'm only about 6-10 hours in really; but I can already tell that whilst I very much like this - I couldn't ever give it a perfect 10. The inventory management feels clunky, the slowdown on fighting some enemies is tedious, there's a big flaw with vertical camera inversion and magnesis for me, and this is when I've only seen 10 hours or so of the game. Sure there's lots of great stuff in here, and the feel and approach is fun and nice(if possibly not so Zelda) - but I think the flaws are too obviously there too much of the time I couldn't give it a full score. However! I'm not far. Let's see what I'm saying about it in 40-50 hours when I'm hopefully done! -

I've only seen rain once and was on a lakey bit with low rocks so the climbing didn't bother me - but the lightning was an interesting one! Killed me first off - next I just took off all my metal and went and pestered a lizalfos - cruel but so hilarious to just watch the poor fucker get repeatedly shocked to death every time he starts making progress towards me -
Props to anyone who has the balls to open their JoyCons or Switch before owning it for barely a week. I'd never touch my Ninty stuff in warranty - and maybe not for a few years after that either! Just do a faulty exchange asap!

Will Nintendo Return To E3 Presentations In 2017?
Rummy replied to ReZourceman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I don't think they need to, and I'm not sure whether it'd be better or worse for them if they did. Their approach over the last few years was good enough for me not being at E3, the long streams and treehouse stuff etc is pretty good - you can't play the games but you can see people playing and get a bit of feel for it through that. My only issues are some of the presenters are annoying and they need to have a decent quantity of varied content - the problem will be that if that stuff simply doesn't exist for the Switch then how can they show it off? I guess in that instance stuff like conference/presentation with trailers etc could be done but really I don't see the need for it these days. -
I was thinking the exact same thing! My bottom screen is permanently lined by the top screen now. It seems to me that a number of these issues are complete oversights - they've emerged in barely less than a weekend of the system being out? I mean it's better for consumers to know issues are there here and now - but for me it seems an oversight that they seem to be happening to a number of people already. It delays my want to purchase the Switch - maybe they'll fix it or some other solution will come up but it doesn't fill me with confidence if these are all things happening within just days of the thing being released.

I'd reckon you're looking at a phone for a wifi hotspot until the official app etc is about - what are you feeling the need for online for at the moment though? I imagine(and iirc there was a post suggesting as much at some point) that it'll eventually be able to connect to hotspots, and would at least hope for it. Their ideas with the DS and wifi hotspots were very good for the time imo - work on that again and let users connect to wifi hotspots without much trouble and it opens up an a nice new world for the system.
-
@Portlett if it's sealed I really wouldn't worry - iirc they get sealed copies coming through which they do pass on sometimes so an employee will just assume you're one of them. As long as you have a sealed box and receipt they'll probably take it - at worse I imagine they'll open it to check there's actually a game inside but really most employees probably won't even bother with that - besides you brought it to them in condition(sealed) so it won't affect owt if they cut it even for that.

Switch Version? Did you not have it pre-ordered or were you one to be hit by delivery problems? Apologies if I've missed an earlier post - the thread's been quite quick moving for me!

I managed to get my hands on a Switch/Dock briefly at my mates as I said - and even from just handling that dock I could tell there really wasn't much in it - wouldn't expect them for more than $20-30 really. I hope/think they'll drop the price hard later on; assuming they aren't currently redesigning it somehow given the pull from shopfront. Wouldn't be surprised if they're worried about hackers making unofficial docks etc.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Rummy replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'm with HoT - they're too sensitive when they kick in and fuck up my stick aiming so I just turned them off to avoid any issues; especially as I can shift around a bit when gaming. I sunk most of my evening into this last night though I'm not sure if I really got anywhere - I've done about 4 shrines since leaving the plateau and was just leaving Kakariko village last night. Didn't do much there except talk to the person you have to talk to, a shrine, and then left. Think there's only been one shrine I've come across so far that I haven't managed to do - one about The Wind Guiding me? Can't figure out how I'm supposed to fly through said wind despite it being quite an early shrine to pass; not sure if I'm missing something or I'm missing something! I'll check it out again at some point I'm sure though. -

@Hero\-of\-Time and @AnyoneElseWhoHasCompletedIT - how would you surmise your experiences with the game and if inclined to score it, where would you put it? -
I've only played maybe a few hours or so and not progressed too far - but I am liking what I've played so far. I think it's a massive shake-up to the standard Zelda approach and I think it was sorely needed myself - I think Miyamoto's time may well be done and I'm kind of glad Aonuma made attempts to break from that iirc. Ofc I've still got much more game to go - but I certainly think this isn't a bad thing for the series. There's obvious issues(as you mentioned in the same post) which is annoying to have alongside such goodness - but all in all I'm hopeful for the title. I do have a bit of an issue with the WiiU version tho - if you invert your verticle camera axis it inverts stuff like the magnesis too. It's weirdly dissonant and I couldn't get used to it when I was playing - it kinda helps that when activated it has a control guide at the bottom of the screen but that's not changed for inversion either - and I can't help but feel pretty disappointed that something so simple/basic made it all the way through testing into the final game. I don't know if it's also an issue on Switch mind, but if it is that's kinda shoddy from them.

I managed to harrass an old work mate I haven't seen for a year or two enough to get a brief hands-on with the Switch on Friday! Wider than I expected, and the Joy-Cons smaller(as contradictory as that might seem) but they felt pretty comfortable. Tried a bit of TV mode, handheld, quick bit of the SnipperClips demo but mostly otherwise just a casual bit of BoTW. It's a shame there wasn't more for me to see at the time and I can't know what the HD rumble's like - but it's moved my boundary for buying the system to around the £220 mark. Would also definitely get a Neon one - I was incredibly amazed at quite how neon it is! Maybe it was the lighting at my mate's or I dunno but the red side actually felt as if it glowed a bit. The blue doesn't quite have the same feel which stupidly bugged, but meh. One thing I'm quite impressed with though is how close the WiiU BotW seems to be to the Switch version; or at least from the little bits I played of each. I don't think I'd feel obligated to get a Switch version of BotW if I got a Switch. Nonetheless, I'm impressed with the potential for the system - I'd recommend anybody who's on the fence but hasn't had a hands on try and see if they can - may be the experience to change your mind!

But I thought you were trying to find a Wii U version?? Ohohohohoho! I was super worried that WiiU demand was gonna go up after the conf which is the only reason I preordered it really. I'm half hyped for it atm but also half indifferent, and the news of the sometimes barren feeling has just knocked it down a bit. I'll still be playing and loving it no doubt as I did TP, but it was something I was really really hoping wouldn't be too much of the case. 'Open world with too much collecting and craft just turns into admin work in a field' - my mate's thoughts on the matter I didn't actually used to rate Wind Waker's soundtrack all that much - something about the general theming/sound underneath didn't sit so favourably with me at the time, but it's grown on me since. Your description of how this approaches it sounds good to me though - have a feeling I'll appreciate that more; sometimes too much repetitiveness in a game just irks me. I was trying to think of my favourite Zelda music - it's probably from MM/OoT(dat gerudo valley). A piece of music from MM randomly comes into my head about once every few weeks too - either from the observatory in town, by the lake, or the Zora place, and I always forget which it is. Weird to think a piece of random Zelda music persists to haunt me. -

Yeah they sent my dispatch e-mail yesterday saying due for today and I just tried tracking and it says due for today. Do you think adding the code could have done something to its priority on their side? If you get caught really short and can't find a copy(which is hopefully unlikely) and don't mind trekking a bit out into southeast you can have my copy this evening if it comes to it - I'm out tomorrow afternoon-late and working Sunday so I'm not going to miss it too much for the weekend. Not very happy to hear that! However I was thinking similar to yourself that it's hopefully something that ramps up as you progress a bit more - do let me know how it goes! 10 minutes of non-eventful walking sounds like it might grind on me if it happens too much; did they learn nothing after the wind waker's stupid sea?!
