1. Can people stop this please. Stop saying it's people taking 'worst case'. If the app requires the screen to be on/unlocked constantly - is that a fact or a 'worse case scenario'? If the app does not allow you to switch focus to anything else on the phone without cutting - is that a fact or a 'worst case scenario'? If these two things ARE fact - I can already tell you that it's not good. @Cube @Goron_3 @are1981 @Pestneb and I'm sure others who I can't recall immediately will know that we already had to make our own voice chat solution with Splatoon on WiiU - this for us was Skype through phones/smart devices/computers. Even this as itself isn't a perfect solution and we shouldn't have to be seeking them to complement our online play - BUT even if so; if the above two issues of the app are correct then I can pretty confidently tell you the experience of this app for chatting etc for Splatoon 2, compared to our experience with Splatoon 1 where we had to seek our solution through Skype ourselves, will certainly be shitter for reasons already mentioned(screen battery drain, inabilty to multitask/use phone without app interruption etc). 2. You're saying people are taking a worst-case scenario then blindly present an unfounded 'the app will most likely be entirely functional once it's released properly'. Based on what? You can't accuse people of going worst-case with actual information to base it on, then blindly offer a positive counter with literally nothing to support it.

Tbh you're summing me up pretty much here too. I've been holding off on Switch depending on its online infrastructure/system - everything I've seen of this app now is just unacceptable to me. I don't think I can bring myself to buy a Switch if this is going to be the online implementation - tbh it sounds worse than the fucking skype setup we used to use for Splatoon - and we were doing that however many years ago now. It's truly just...unbelievable, almost. The sad thing is any money I might have had for a Switch is actually likely to go towards getting a second PS4. I literally don't need one, but I keep getting a hankering for second one and it's a shame I'm likely to spend money on a second over a Switch - but I just can't justify the Switch's price for what it offers now. Again I make my point that they're experienced enough to know better, and I'm glad you can see that here at least. Not sure why you actually expect an improvement in the app - but time shall tell. It looks to me like all the fundamentals of it are wrong to start with - these fixes surely will involve another overhaul. Can anyone tell me why the app isn't ready yet? What the excuse is in it this time? Was this one also beyond their control?
-
I wouldn't go that far, but clearly shows they don't fully trust it to commit to. Can you say you blame them though?

When's Stardew Valley due for Switch? I got it on PS4 a month or two back and macked out for a while until I once again found it tedious sitting down at a TV for (that's me and the time I'd end up wasting in my life, rather than the game) and would love it in a portable format. I highly recommend it on Switch for any old school pre-n64 harvest moon fans or for anyone who hasn't HM'd before I'd say check out some reviews etc. I think it's a really fucking good play to get that on the system, and I think we'll see some articles about its uptake on Switch being bigger than maybe expected given shortages and install base etc.

Aye was wondering if they're gonna drip feed the weapons and maps again. It isn't the best way to do it but for early adopters it may help keep the game fresh until they're all out - it was fun seeing the little meta shifts in the original.
-
What kind of content is gonna be in the free updates for the year?
-
No one can hide from my sight I've not kept up with much in the last few months and unfortunately missed pretty much all of E3 but I was wondering - are they doing the trickle feed of content with this similar to how they did with the WiiU version?
-
Did you have/play Splatoon much on WiiU? Tbh if I had a switch I'd definitely see Splatoon, (Overwatch, Destiny) and Oddessey seeing me at least into next year. The portability of Switch does make me tempted too - I haven't even done any dungeon things in BotW yet cos I just can't be arsed to sit down with it on the TV.
-
From a quick look at upcomings for me it'd be Odessey tho I'm a bit mixed on it, but Switch is still on the back burner for me until we know a bit more about online and if a good bargain happens to come up. Splatoon 2 would be the real seller for me otherwise atm! Out of interest as I haven't been around/followed it did the Joycon interference issues get a good universal fix? I know some had the conductive sponge done but were still getting some issues then too.
-
Nice to see you guys literally can't read nor answer my questions in a discussion thread for the Switch - these 'facts/reports' are mentioned, referenced, and explored further in my posts. Not to mention that whilst I haven't posted much here lately - my old warning about complaining about complaining still stands @Ronnie and anyone else. Warnings will be issued.

Yeah my issue with articles is that it's vague - the only reference I find to specific manufacturers are Nintendo and Apple - tho Samsung apparently plan to sink billions into manufacturing and parts in response. My issue is if this is industry wide -and tbh I think the WSJ has fluffed up the Switch angle, as I can find info about NAND chip shortages ongoing from last year but didn't see other components mentioned - why can't I find so much more info about it online? Seriously go Google phone parts shortage or something and you get switch and apple. With some digging and changing it to the NAND shortage terms I got a bit more info. Mostly it seems to related to prices on SSDs not coming down. Coming back to the original point of discussion tho I'm aiming to still keep it mostly Switch - why do Nintendo repeatedly end up with hardware issues I don't tend to see from other mafacturers, especially with what is presumably so many years in the business? It seems like every time the discussion comes up or it happens again that it's defended as something beyond control etcetc - but to me it just looks like a bad job to keep happening. Let's not forget Apple are still getting the parts according to articles and posters here whereas Nintendo are not - so it isn't just purely out of their hands. If solid orders were made and contracted, how/why are they giving preference to Apple on parts? The order already existed without shortage, or possibly was even made shorter (NAND issues apparently been ongoing since last year) so in that latter case someone WOULD have known and taken a risk - someone WOULD have known about it, no? Or ykno Nintendo could avoid this whole issue in future by doing what many have said for ages and stop using shitty amounts of internal NAND storage for their consoles in the first place
-
Industry wide I found in an article but that's very broad - which other manufacturers is it affecting? 'No-one saw it coming' is weak. I'd bloody hope nobody saw it coming if this has still then happened! I imagine a lot of people hit by cars don't see them coming, but they still do their best to negate the risk by looking both ways by crossing. How can Nintendo have so many years of experience and STILL not get on top of their hardware game, especially so close to launch?
-
Want to give me the reality? Where's the forward thinking? Who's considering and minimising risks? Sure I don't know the picture but I do know Nintendo are very experienced yet repeatedly fail with their hardware levels and supply. These aren't products you're dropping to last for a week or a month - they're long term and regular use. To be hit with such a specific stock issue(is it affecting anyone else other than apple) so soon after launch strikes me as a lack of foresight and planning - which surely people are responsible for.
-
So it brings you on - why isn't/doesn't this happen so often to other folks? Which silly person thought a good design decision was to be using parts that might run these risks? Like. Surely people are paid to do jobs around whole projects like console manufacturer launch and maintainence? Clearly someone's not doing it as well as they could be or some ill thought out choices were made.
-
Doesn't seem to answer the question of why this seems to happen so often with Nintendo hardware - a game they've not exactly new to. Why did they manage to get it wrong so often ? Also didn't someone say they were competing with apple who ARE getting the parts - so why's there a discrepancy there, or is there not?

Anyone hooked on this from recent ps+ offerings? I've generally always added the PS3 and vita games(not even got one) but hasn't been so common for me to actually fire a PS3 up - but I couldn't resist this. Think I first witnessed it in 2013 when my friend was playing it briefly - and it isn't quite what I thought it was - AND I'm not very good but I really was loving this last week. Given my general shitness in surviving/completing all challenges have folks got any general tips? I'm trying to scope ahead on challenges and not do stuff that might unlock shortly or get to the geographic areas in time etc but sometimes I'm a bit shit or get ravaged by a lion or something. EDIT: why they never ported this to ps4 I do wonder. Doesn't feel even all that terribly old and given the install base now I imagine it surely could have turned a profit?
-
Let's not also forget they did such a shit job with their own product a 3rd party managed to rip it off, produce it, and get it onto shelves and into homes whilst Nintendo sat fumbling and fans were still scrambling for the official things. Whatever the reason - these shortages are far from new for them, and as you say they really should know better. Not at all surprised they've gone overcautious on the Switch after the WiiU but surely in this modern world there's ways to keep production lines running on standby for a bit of cash risk/speculation.
-
Well it depends on the system. I've only done rudimentary stuff for personal or low-level work but I'm sure we've got enough nerds here to tell you about the gaps you end up plugging ina system that evolves. I don't imagine the ps3's original infrastructure or design was built future proof to last til now, or many of the iterations along the way, so you keep building on potentially bad foundations until you're too large to do anything about instead of doing the overhaul you need. Even having said that - I still rather agreed with yourself. I would have to wonder just how poorly things were built on the PS3 to cause such an issue now, and tbh if it'd cause some small issues with a trophies surely it'd have bigger issues worth an overhaul? Even a band-aid fix on top such as a X-minutes sync you suggest should surely be possible. I do kinda look forward to the days when we'll have the answers/understanding for some of these things or how the tech was designed!
-
Personally I'm going for both whatever suits most people but on closest call preference to Zell as he has yet once again graciously agreed to potentially host some of the meet attendees! As far as Meltdown - I went for a good few smash nights but yeah I'd say on the whole even with that I'd agree with you colleague's evaluation @ashley. Its cool if you can bring the environment but it doesn't really have the feeling or atmosphere by itself for me - great if you wanna just play video games tho. If we felt we HAD to go somewhere gaming wise obviously I'll vote for Loading again. Great amount of tabletops, can bring own games/consoles etc - only real problem with it as always is space Vs people. (Personally I'd actually not mind a pub with some space and potentially low key tabletop stuff or pen and paper like we do sometimes in the park, bigger games like a mafia or team tabletops etc. but on the whole I'm easy with whatevs)
-
Not even once been anything enough of an issue to bother me but I share the sentiments on still paying attention to the little features even if they don't see big anymore. I'd wonder if there's some clumsy fundamentals in that system that are hard to overturn as they've been built upon? As others have said I can't see any reason for it to even still be an issue now, or a fix be such a deal, for something that surely seems so simple?
-
Cmon folks! @Zell as you're ok to host at least some of us and the response so far I'd give you date preference. However maybe it's worth tagging all the usual folks to see who's in or not? @ReZourceman @Goafer @jayseven @The Bard @Dannyboy-the-Dane @Happenstance @MoogleViper @Charlie @Jimbob @Shorty @Sheikah @Fierce_LiNk @Eenuh @Dan_Dare @dwarf @Daft @Supergrunch @Cube @Goron_3 @The Peeps @...overwatch!
-
My apologies as I've been generally not as active in life or forums for a month or two - but I am ofc absolutely in for this and support your date of August 12th given you're graciously hosting yet AGAIN! Really quite close now folks in terms of weeks I imagine - can we confirm if this is gonna gwan and who we've got for Zell's sake? As ever @Zell I'll personally appreciate accomodation but I've got enough links to forego if space is an issue
-
Sorry to hear about that @drahkon. Obviously it's gonna take time(as I'm sure you know from previous) but that's annoyingly just how it is. My advice is try to think back to who/what you were prior to the relationship and aim to get back to that for now rather than chase something else(not saying you necessarily would, plus if that's who you were before then double bonus!). I also think a more obvious solution is to get Overwatch on your PS4 and come be a cool kid like the rest of us so you don't have to think of relationships anymore B)

I know I'm a fucking weirdo but everytime I look at him and his hairline for some reason I can't think of much but The Last Airbender. -
Sorry I'm a bit late in the day to say thanks to you all! I haven't been about on here as much lately as I usually am - soon to be rectified! Very much appreciate the thread and birthday wishes though
