  1. Personally I'm somewhat the same. I really want one, but for the price it's at and the trust I frankly don't have in Nintendo after seeing them do something like this again really makes it a difficult purchase for me. I can't invest in something like that if it's online/game features are going to be taken off within 5 years, though as you say hopefully it won't be like that with the paid service - but even that puts me off because I don't see the value in it. It's a real shame as the Switch ticks a lot of boxes for me and I would without a doubt be gaming far more(and probably actually gotten somewhere in BotW) if I had a Switch, but for me they're making it hard to take that plunge
  2. Far too soon imo - especially with many Wii u's and particularly 3DS's out there and games integrated into it. Massive fuck you to the fans imo - why shut it down so soon? Enough people were fucked off with the Wii u as it was - give them some support for another year or two at least until Switch has a more than solid foothold? Big slap in the face imo - also big loss to a game like Mario Maker. Another example of Nintendo not learning lessons and repeating mistakes imo - it's the same as the Wii servers shutdown(who's gonna give me the excuse of hosting being out of their hands again this time??) as I see it, and not necessary quite right now. They obviously seem to have implemented something without forethought to real long-term sustainability - the crux of most of what I end up finding criticism against Nintendo for. It's a choice they're making here imo, and I think it's a terrible one that someehat harshly disrespects the loyalty of some of their fans and consumers.
  3. Monolith managed to run a pretty big tab of credit for me from Xenoblade Chronicles alone - enough to help sell me the WiiU. Depending what comes of this it could definitely be a decider for a Switch choice later down the line. Definitely interested to see what they come up with - I think as ever we may be pleasantly surprised!
  4. Decided to stop being such a pansy about it and bought it last night. Definitely see what's being said about the devastator - I used the insta-15 boost to start a bio-specialist and got a legendary 15 devastator with a crapton of slots pretty quick - just a massive shame it'll be outlevelled soon enough. Speaking of which - I dunno what it is or if maybe playing a main/200+ character for a while but I'm seeming to really struggle on the first few missions - sometimes even just on rookie! Can't tell if it's maybe a gear thing(ie would have had better at the time on previous runs from lvl1) or me being too reckless! The primary weapon hack is kinda cool I guess - energy guns range is a bit crap and not sure it suits/works so well out of tank hands - on the flip side of that though it seems tank(started one of them too :p) can't actually fire SMGs particularly well because of its dual wield? Like the times I tried it seemed to struggle to get shooting. Still, finding something about the game rather addictive - I think I'll be continuing to play it for a while to come. Nice easy one to kinda sit back and not think too much with.
  5. It's a shame to see it happen but this looks like a bit of a total washout this year. I've had a shitty bit of flu for most of the week that's still with me so wouldn't come out uptown tonight. Lesson for next year is to organise ourselves a bit earlier and firmer!
  6. I'll bump this over the PS+ Free games thread. I'm still getting a nice amount of value out of this. It's a very nice little 'quick game's mentally for me that is never a quick game. Given I got it for free I'm very tempted by the complete DLC pack at around 7 quid - but I wanted to ask how many other folks bought or got much out of it? Obvs brings some cool new weapons I've sent others using tho I am also still kinda happy with the defaults I've got(or rather found) but I am thinking if I'm gonna keep paying this game it makes sense to DLC now rather than later. Just wondering if anyone else here did? Progresswise I've only completed full W2 with one tank char and I've been mostly playing that for XP/levels to 300 recently, but I'm thinking of getting back onto the other characters if I get the DLC. Dunno whether to do it or carry on without though.
  7. Given this is theoretically in a day or two - do we even have a plan and list of attendees?
  8. looks like absolute crap to me, cheap and doesn't appeal at all. Not even an actual N64 pad layout either!
  9. I was never a big Sonic kinda guy so I'll probably pick this up digitally eventually on a sale or so for PS4. Was watching that special stages etc vid the other day and it did get me kinda excited/nostalgic(espesh trying that sega classics emu thing for Sonic 1 on my phone) but looking at the money of it I'm not sure I'd pay that price for that content now - but I'll earmark half of it for some other indie title or DLC for something I like, then buy this on the cheap when I can!
  10. Last page people are asking why SF isn't being supported - this page people are talking about the Switch's still sub-par online features. Can't help but wonder if those two things might go hand in hand, especially with something like SF where people are more likely to play each other online than offline these days... (Tho Switch's portability is good for local, as was said with Wii U both should be easy options)
  11. I think the big difference is the use of motion controls attached to your screen. In Splatoon 1 it wasn't too bad because you didn't have to actively look at the screen you're moving between your hands - whereas obvs with Switch and the JoyCons attached you would. I've not played so can't obviously comment fully, but trying to picture motion controlling attached to the screen seems to my mind like I'd get a bit put off by it.
  12. Ahhh I didn't do the sheet cos it doesn't work on my damn phone! Kept forgetting to do it on my laptop. I'm definitely in for Friday and Sat @Zell, but I probs won't do the escape room.
  13. Every Good Boy Deserves Football. FACE.
  14. I'm one of the rudest, and somewhat ironically if you heard me just talk without knowing me, racist brown people you'll meet. I love a harsh joke, a rude joke, an inappropriate joke. They're all always contextual however and I am aware of the actual whole inappropriateness that I probs wouldn't do it with other people. Am I offended as a result? Generally no. I get annoyed sometimes because I wonder if a jokes being run for its own sake or rather to make a point/put someone down but I sometimes realise in my own harshness I sometimes probably come across with a more malignant and solid seeming intent than I mean. I think it takes(beyond a few things) a lot to offend me - tbh more often that not I find greater offense in things that might offend others - but on that note I try my best not to self-righteously leap to their defense without knowing it's cool.
  15. Fuck anything else. Even at 40 quid a year that's what..£3.33 a month? Even considering the free games(admittedly mixed but you get a few) that's pretty good. Consider the online functionality of the system, gaming and servers(honestly rarely have issues, the most common seem p2p NAT based if anything) and really - as I think you even mentioned otherwise here or elsewhere - with inflation it's still a pretty good service for what it offers. Plus+ I just renewed a year during summer days sale for 30 quid. £2.50 a month. I've played alienation maybe 6-8 hours this past week(free ps+ game) alone in addition to overwatching for probably 10-15. Call that 20 and it's what....12.5p per hours gaming? Probably even less for folks other than me or when I go even harder on a a ps+ title. EDIT: did I fuck my maths and not seperate monthly and weekly? In that event it's actually quarter of the above and closer at about 3-4p an hour. I must admit I've no idea what ms offer these days but the ps+ service does good enough for me. Like almost anyone, all the time, I want things cheaper but really this isn't one to complain about. Ever buy a 40-50quid N64 game as a kid and realise but it's too late? Compare that to PS+ and you're really bloody laughing - especially as a working grown up with money coming in!
  16. For one I'm not sure if I've ever actually paid £40 for PS+ and not sure why everyone else is?? Can easily get it cheaper all sorts of ways. Besides tbh for me at least for an online service I find ps+ pretty realiable and consistent(other than patch/update/game downloads taking long but that may be my ISP or area speaking to others) - given what it's provided me so far both with the ps+ content and online for all those hours of Overwatch - I'd say I've definitely got my money's worth. If it goes up by another tenner I don't mind - though I will admit I'm still expecting to be getting deals on subs below that price anyway.
  17. What worries me be most about all of this is how seemingly ok it is to be a massive prick in office in the West without too much accountability? Trump and May mirror each other muchly (heh) at the moment. I think whilst it doesn't seem so obvious it is a turning point of seeing whether the right can still dominate or not. Though on that note Obamacare is apparently continuing as the vote to repeal has failed. As our country slowly bleeds, underfunds and kills our NHS the US apparently seem to be gripping their system by the horns and holding on to the closest semblance of nationalised healthcare they have for the greater good of society.
  18. Your logic ties the two very well together and I can't presently pick it apart to say it's wrong. In my head I feel it's assuming a counter-correlate relation and the only example I can think of against that is this: say in an ecosystem food source increases - this leads to an increase in that predator's(or omni/herbivore) population but an increase in Omni/herbivore population wouldn't neccessarily lead to an increase in food source etc. To second - is there NOT a notable increase in men* with lower levels of testosterone? Like...I'm not saying there is or isn't either way but exactly that - unless you can say there isn't more than you can say there is - they both currently stand valid. Essentially until someone actually assesses either and/or the other? *I earlier typo'd this as 'me'. I thought it was amusing to leave.
  19. I fucking hate trying to reply to this on my phone. I can sorta see your point and originally misconstrued it @Grazza. I think a big issue here is the suggestion of cause and effect - some are thinking you're suggesting a cause when you're suggesting the effect. IE. Rather than saying more feminine behaviour in men is chasing this, is this causing the more feminine behavour in men? Interesting food for thought. I know the issue of medication/drugs in the West getting into water is another speculation of cause for issues like this - but again is it cause, effect, or just a separate correlation factor that does not mean causation?
  20. I think one of the problems here with the thread and the subject matter is that is emotive - and too many of you are going to make assumptions on each other. There's not a lot doable on my part to avoid this - but try and be mindful when composing your responses. If you're all replying and responding on invisible assumptions you essentially end up being two people in a room shouting at each other but having completely different conversations. Ask questions and try to understand each other to clarify every presumption you make!
  21. Agreed. I do think there's different points being made here and linked up when not neccessairly linked. However I do feel they're all rather worthy of discussion! Edit pending so please don't quote... - see below!
  22. Whilst I do admit I can see where you're coming form Grazza I do have to point out the obvious(and presumable emotive reactions you'll receive as a result) flaw in this statement. You're equating effeminate behaviour with homosexuality. It isn't equatable and never should or will be. I know very camp straight people, I know rather 'masculine' gay people. I don't think it's a point you meant to be hung up on, nor do I really want to it to become the focus of this topic - but I can see it definitely happening through the equation of two factors not neccessairly all that interlinked.
  23. Look guys - I'm not agreeing with Grazza but neither am I wholly disagreeing. I do however have to admit I don't know enough on biology to make full judgements - I can see the merit in the argument of reduced emission of testosterone in the body due to less masculine behaviour having a possible knock on in to reproductive issues etc. Again, I don't agree or neccessairly hold it but I can see the train of thought from someone who isn't an expert. I would say, whilst not related to the article, it's an arguably worthy point of conversation to consider though?
  24. Guys you may disagree on finer points on this issue - but everyone is entitled to their opinions. As long as you conduct yourself with respect towards your fellow members then all is fine. Personally I don't think the idea of 'acting' less masculine has a knock on on this - I'm fairly comfortable with my maleness yet often don't act particularly masculine. I don't know if that's going to affect my ability to have kids - but judging from my heritage and 21 siblings to my mother and father alone that I'm hopefully going to be fine
  25. I'm likely going to hold you to this so might as well ask now - to what level do you believe it will change and improve? I don't think the reaction is overly negative either - this isn't some E3 reveal about something potentially coming next year - this is a current market reality with a product in consumers and retailers' hands. Edit: can't get my quotes to work proper on phone but @Sheikah I'd say see my post above and it's actually already worse than Skype. Locking out so much on the phone in addition to the screen is a terrible terrible design choice(or lack thereof rather)
