Advice needed - best '3ds family' console for a 6 year old?
Rummy replied to Rummy's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Weirdly even though I don't think I've ever held one of the things I do get the impression it's got classic Gameboy/GameCube style solid feeling build. He's the oldest of a few so I'll probably deffo avoid 3ds just cos the younger kids will inevitably play etc; given that I'll probs also suggest going with an original 2DS model for now given the sturdiness as you say! -
Advice needed - best '3ds family' console for a 6 year old?
Rummy replied to Rummy's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yeah I'm torn between suggesting original 2ds or the 'new' 2ds xl cos of its better clamshell design. Think my mate said it's just he played a bit of Mario and Sonic on iPad or so, seems interested and wants his own thing; so why not. Seems mobile is a good gateway for them in places, tho also excited this kid seems to be starting his gaming journey out with some choice and going for Nintendo! Birthday isn't til the 25th so I'm still taking any more advice, even if it's more of the same! -
An old mate of mine just messaged for some Nintendo advice(remembering me to be the awesome Nintendo cool kid that I once was ) - and he's probably just as confused as I suddenly realised I am about it all! Then I thought; we're all gamers here. Many of us have been for a long while. Many less of us, tho a notable few of us, are also parents too! Who better to ask advice from than not only my informed gamer friends, but informed gamer parent/uncle/aunt/cousin friends! So...anyone got any advice on the best shout from the 3ds family for a 6 year old's birthday?

Do eeet. It isn't like other Marvel films. I really wanna see it again lol, I'm sure I'm overhyping it in my memory. Great little summary review there btw @Sméagol you've hit on a lot of points I think really made it for me, too.

I haven't found the gall to commit myself to this again yet, may well be on this eve though. Running basic/story stuff mostly(still haven't learnt trapping) tho suddenly I think I'm realising I had a dream I went MHing with friends. And I started thinking about those flashpods mentioned and we didn't have any. Sometimes I wonder if MH is witchcraft.
-
Came up over in General too and a few folks there got talking - what about an SR1/2/etc port to Switch? Personally I only started at SR2 but that could be a weirdly nice little port that may well find an audience on Switch.

Had a quick look as I was popping in to get my petrol voucher after work; fuckers have it at £8 on ps4! Stood there wondering why for a while and trying to check price online when I saw it's less on XBone, damn console being crap and getting even sillier bargains than us (on a srs note I'd have bought it and may do soon, but basically didn't today for exactly same reason as you - far too much MH and OW to be had)

I got deBlob 2 on 360 after Marcamillian but me onto the original and I thought it was quite fun/somewhat fresh. Think they're playing cautious with a remaster of just 1, which also will probably affect its own success(why not do a bundle of 1+2?), but I think it's a good shout for Switch.

Watch it as background occasionally but I find it a bit grinding. Not sure if it's Dara(who I love otherwise), the overly forced humour on occasion, the OTT setup sometimes, or not being a fan of the way it's kinda competing, but I'd take Taskmaster over this most days Having said that did catch a cracking episode with Greg Wallace and Jodie Kidd t'other eve, Greg Wallace was more nerdy and amusing that I expected him too be! As was she!

Saw you mention in general you just picked this up bargain @Hero-of-Time? Let me know how you find it! Did anyone else here ever get on it at all?

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Rummy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Never played SR1 but I got and played SR2 simply from the stupidity of the SR3 trailer way before that was out. To date I'd still rate SR2 as one of my most memorable games for some of the things it did, whilst doing things that were kinda on top of the things it was imitating. It was a parody that was also not only just a parody, imo. Real great game - if it could be a cheap port to Switch I'd say they should definitely do it. It might feel a bit dated but it kinda protects itself from that with its own ridiculousness. -
So you think this is just prepping for 2023? Given that Star Wars is such a huge brand for them atm(and imo Disney are one of the sinister kings of branding) and they the Battlefront stuff caused such public outrage and backlash that did damage aspects of the brand - as a parent company/licensor they would not be happy about that. Obviously I wouldn't be the only point to bring and the legals will be nitty gritty and technical and we don't know contract/license agreements in full etc - but this strikes me as the sort of thing that'll ultimately come down to lawyer Vs lawyer and when it comes to it Disney will probably win cos they've got the bigger size and money behind them to have the better opposition in a dispute. EA are big, and they're thrown their weight around on occasion due to it, I find it quite interesting to think they may be about to tangle with someone bigger than themselves.

You funny guy, you funny. Weirdly I have faith in the production of a game from Disney/Lucas etc under the unified banner; even if the idea of so much of our popular entertainment media being under such a large banner isn't so reassuring Like could anything be worse than EA? Do you really think Disney/owners wouldn't have to try stepping in after the BF2 and microtransactions/pay to play debacle? It was kinda inevitable, Disney just needed to wait for it to die down before stepping in to avoid major brand damage. My prediction would be to rest assured - this isn't an 'approach', they're gonna be getting it back. (Soz, deleted my post by accident when trying to get an edit to work, so thought to just chuck it back up for matter of record so you don't look mad talking to yourself) Also to follow that in response - I'm not a big SW fan(nothing against it) but I agree about EA, I wasn't just taking about them being useless on the microtransactions. Tbh I wasn't even just talking about them being useless on Star Wars either.

So! Had a quick search and it seems there's no actual topic for this film! I saw it last night, absolutely loved it, and it's probably my fave marvel film and it made me feel like I did after Guardians 1(think that and this are their two best films). Won't post too much more than an extended trailer for those who haven't followed it much. Those who've seen it - what did you think? I don't think I've quite realised how in love with it I even am yet.
-
I'm probably still too low to join yet(thought I'd love to) in addition to going to see Black Panther with my marvel mate tonight, if you know when you guys might be on always give me a bit of an advanced notice shout? I'll try and smash through it a bit on thursday-sunday to get my HR up a bit closer to 10-12ish and some bits that feel ok. My biggest problem with games like this(or any with an inventory :p) is that I'm an absolute hoarder
-
These folks with their HR49s and I'm still here probably barely HR5. This was a bad idea for me as I've been not dealing with life enough recently, but by that token I'm trying to not play it as 'casually' as the equally if not more dangerous OW Having said that given my MH experience is limited to a few hours of solo play in MH3U, I'm slowly growing to enjoy this as I start to understand it more. Not just the monsters and weapons and whatnot mind, even just some of the interfacing! The multiplayer looks rather excellently designed for dropping in and out and finding company to play with - credit both to the makers and Sony themselves too. As much as I'm not looking to rush into it yet(and I think we'll be surprised by its end of year sales) I know I'm gonna get a lot of fun and time out of it eventually. Bit frustrating as previously mentioned however that the early missions are difficult/unclear in weather multi. I know H-o-T said it earlier but even so it wasn't quite clear to me at first that people couldn't join me until certain cutscenes.

So just been seeing Smash on Switch come up in a couple threads I was browsing recent and thought; hey! Why the hell not make a thread about one of the most beloved Nintendo franchises of all time! So, what do you think or hope we'll see with Smash Switch? Any concerns or worries? Good character ideas to have in the game? What about new items and assist trophies etc? Ideal stages you'd like to see? Any other things I've not even thought of you thinking about??
-
Doesn't the site specifically stated that this isn't the case?
-
Shame they fucked us so hard on the Wii U then innit It's swings and roundabouts. You can say they were doing this with 3DS but why not with Wii U? It's all just business really - the Switch is doing well so why wouldn't you look to support a successful looking venture long-term?
-
Not quite an ADQ but Marc just put me onto this video about SMB1 4-2, is an interesting little watch for those who enjoy some of the small technicals. Essentially a 20 minute focus on one of the most notable levels on a speedrunning route in history, and both the opportunities and challenges its technique has evolved through.
-
Finally upgraded my HDD so I downloaded this as I had the space - I am utterly shit lol. Yet I can't stop playing it. I've mostly been going solo so far, I need to figure out about building structures and defending well etc. I also need to just get into more fun fights, as I'm barely scraping by in them atm. I'm really bad at it though, basically only coming where I am by running away and surviving! Edit:played a squad game with randoms earlier, had two communicating Germans and they basically carried me(to #1!), tbh we barely got shot at but yeah I need to work on my gunplay(managed just one kill in a bit of a rash panic) and very much so my construction. May played a few games in forest landings and just practise building. Also for those not knowing there's apparently a snipers mode in BR now.
-
I haven't got any techniques myself, just know all the routes and levels. There's usually an exit I forget somewhere, and it's frustrating because it's hard to tell for some which ones you got and didn't! Forest of illusion particularly. The only thing I'd know for a bowser run is basically taking the first startling road route and getting round there! I might give it a quick go now and see how I get on...(absolutely no way can I do it like the pros, nor most likely not die at least once). Tbh I don't even recall the best door route at bowsers castle! I think as a kid we used to take 3 and maybe 8? Iono. I usually guess and go with the flow! EDIT: Nope! Half hour about to get to Bowser even for the first time, with deaths on the way. I'm very bad at this. Editedit: or maybe I'll just say that an thrash bowser. Took the 3 route to get a cape for backup tho. Goddamn I need to brush up!
-
Not usually a Kaizo fan but that and the TASBot closeout were indeed very awesome. I definitely wanna have a SMW speedrun-off with you someday man. Maybe start with a bowser speed run then a race to see how quick we'd get all 96(I've never tried it at speed, always play at usual pace). Sponsorship on a per-achievement/level completion basis could be cool with sacrifices etc(obvs thinking on a charity context as part of something a bit bigger). 10p per death from ourselves, 5-20p per exit found from sponsors who don't wanna just flatrate etc.

In what sort of sense, @sven?

I'm not gonna be picking this up til April as I've got a busy few months and bad enough at doing stuff already. I should be able to catch up and hunt with guys if I get into it still then, right?
