So you're saying you don't use the Gmail app, you use the Mail app, presumably because you want to see your Hotmail emails as well? I have no idea what the problem might be, since i don't use the Mail app in android. I just forward all my email accounts to Gmail, and use the Gmail app. Have you tried clearing the cache thingy and memory for the Mail app?
