Xpert 11 Season 27: We few, we happy few, we band of brothers
bob replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
Bah! Lost to Comerade Co-op, but the worst thing was, i only scored 1 goal!? I think i'm resigned to the fact that i'll probably go straight back down this season. I need to win more against lower league opposition. Still, there's always the return fixture against Drag-poo for some easy points. -
Yeah it'll actually look really good on my CV anyway. It's for a consultant engineering company who deal mainly in suspension systems. The only reservations i have are that i'm not that fanatical about cars (in comparison to other mechanical engineers) but maybe i can learn...

Had my first ever job interview yesterday. It went pretty well! Halfway through, they told me i'd already got further than the guy they interviewed that morning. Made me feel great, then instantly sorry for him... Anyway, they said it went well enough to get a second interview next week sometime. I liked the look of the company and the people too, although I don't think it's my ideal job, so i won't be too upset if i don't get it. Just feels good not completely bombing in the first interview!

I think it's fairly obvious that he works in a brothel.

Possibly, i only played GTA3 and Vice city on the PC, so the controls were already a bit fiddley. The handling may have been better than it seemed. I don't know what it is that makes characters like Mario a joy to control, and others like Niko a complete mess...

This is more to do with GTA4, but i can't be bothered to dredge up that thread (if there even is one). I had an hour to spare last week, so i fired up GTA4 (which i got for Xmas and havn't played much since) intending to do some of the story, and i was overwhelmed (completely whelmed, almost) by how bad the handling was. Not just the cars, which people mention all the time, but in controlling Niko (sp?). He would just wander all over the place like a spider with 7 legs on one side and often lurch over the edge of things. Getting to go through doorways took two tries each time and I would invariably miss when trying to highjack cars or make jumps. This seems to be to be a problem with most of the GTA games, and i hope they fix it in GTAV. I'm not sure what my point was...

I agree with you 100%, and to a lesser extent for me, with beer. It all tastes disagreeable to me, i don't understand why people would drink it for pleasure and not just to get drunk. Red wine is the absolute nastiness. I keep thinking that suddenly everyone is going to confess that it's all been an elaborate ruse on me, and they've all been hating it all these years too. Yeah i agree with this too, tea never feels particularly refreshing to me. It always leaves a sort of 'Nyang nyang' taste in my mouth that makes me want to swill my mouth with something else. I think these might be related... I'm not a massive music fan, but out of all the gigs i've been to, the best ones are those that everyone is jumping around, dancing to the music and rocking out. The lamest ones are the ones where everyone just stands, listening, and nodding their heads. I don't think the point is the quality of the music, as it will inevitably be worse than the CD. But as Charlie said, it's about participation etc. I would add Italian Restaurants I don't mean Italian food, although i'm not a huge fan myself, but i can see how people would like the food. What i don't understand is why people are happy to go to a restaurant and order a small bowl of pasta with a dollop of sauce on it and pay £12 (15 Euros) for it. Italian food is the easiest cuisine to recreate at home i think, and the most overpriced when you eat out. It also seems to go hand-in-hand with the rudest waiters, but that's just my experience.

All that highlighted was how awesome the original was.....Where's my N64...?

Going to see this on Tuesday methinks. I don't care what the reviewers say, they are probably wrong. As long as it's better than Returns (Superman obvs, not Batman), i'll be satisfied.

Went to see After Earth on wednesday. It wasn't terrible, although after the first 10 minutes i was expecting bad things. It starts horrendously, really clumsy in setting up the story....but once they get on the spaceship it gets better. Jaden Smith is a lot better than i thought he would be, and Will Smith is a bit worse. The film lacks a bit of humour which i think it needed, and there are some stupid elements to it (the murderous-yet-tender bird?!) but i did like the whole 'alien that can smell fear' thing, that was cool. Overall, not a bad sci-fi film 6/10.

Hmmm, anyone else notice the sneaky greyed-out 'cup' option on the main page now? That might make cups easier to organise, although it could put Jimbob out of a job. -

I am going for 4-3 to Coloccini and 6 players in the 11. Also Peeps, i resent the fact that you believe i take this game anything but deadly serious. -
Flame On! And then have a great birthday...

I agree about Wall-E, it went downhill after they introduced talking Americans in it. It should have had no talking in it and just been about Wall-E and Eve's interactions or soemthing. Up was a bit of a disappointment for me. The first half is ok, albeit a bit sad which i dislike. It all goes downhill a bit when they try and add a pointless villain to it with his talking dogs. Maybe it just made me miserable which is why i don't like it.

Not currently no, although it might be in future...i would if i could!

Too action-y?! It's Superman! That's what i've been waiting for dammit! For him to actually DO something for once! Did you see Hans' AMA on Reddit? He said he intended it to be the complete opposite of the Dark Knight soundtracks which were full of despair and darkness etc, and that Man of Steel was supposed to sound full of hope etc.

That sounds almost exactly like my experiences... I don't know why no delivery services deliver in the evening? Or at least have it as an option for people who work standard hours...
-
What do companies other than Royal Mail usually do though when you aren't in? I understand that it is difficult to deliver a package when the person is at work all day, but Royal Mail always had the fall-back of leaving it at a post office, which other companies don't have. I don't understand how Yodel can get anything delivered at all if they have to wait until you are at home and refuse to specify any time other than 'all-day'. I work 9-5 and prefer not to sit at home all weekend dammit! As far as i know, i'm not using Prime, just normal Amazon. I may try one or two more things, but if they use Yodel again i'm swearing off Amazon.

I dislike watching programs that are in english but with subtitles. A friend used to keep the sbutitles on all the time while at home, and i just found myself reading the sustitles even though i didn't have to. I, like many other people (but not all!) seem to have trouble in watching the actors and reading the subtitles at the same time. I have to do one, or the other. So when i am reading the lines, i can't watch the actors and vice versa. Obviously i don't mind doing it if the talking is in another language, but it's just annoying if the subtitles are uneccesary.

I have to admit that Up isn't in my top 10 Pixar films. I probably need to watch it again, but i didn't think it was very funny and a bit too sad. I don't like sad films. They make me cry real tears. And sniff real snot.

Now i've not done any research into this, so i'm not sure if this is a thing or not, but has anyone else noticed a change in Amazon's delivery policy over the past few weeks? I first noticed when i ordered something from them a couple of weeks ago, and it got delivered during the day, when i was at work. So far, pretty normal. However, normally, they leave a card and leave the parcel at the Post Office, and i can collect it when i come home at 5pm. This time, i got a text, an email and a card saying that i hadn't been in, and that i needed to ring them to organise a redelivery. It seems that Amazon are using a company called Yodel, rather than Royal Mail now. I rung them up, and asked if they could deliver it after 5pm, or early in the morning so i could get it before i went to work. The guy said, nope, he could not guarantee a time any more specific than between 7.30am and 9pm. So i had to take the day off work to wait for my parcel. Either that, or they would try and deliver it two more times, and then leave it at the depot (which i can't get to without a car) Then a couple of days later, i ordered something else, and wanted it before the weekend, so i paid for next day delivery, and the same thing happened. They tried to deliver it (i was at work) and so they took it away again. On saturday, i stayed in all morning, then had to pop out for an hour in the afternoon and what do you know!? They tried to deliver it while i was out! I emailed Amazon and got my money back for the next day delivery (since i didn't get it the next day). They said it would be redelivered on Monday (of course i would be at work again). But no text, email or card through the door has occured since then.... Basically, if they persist in using Yodel, i will stop using Amazon. They are rubbish. TL;DR - Amazon appear to be using Yodel, they are rubbish. Has anyone else noticed this recently?

I don't really care if one person is 1 million econ up or not. They still won't stand up to the relentless 'barrage of bob' or 'bob' for short.
