Happenstance

Decided to replay the Tomb Raider reboot this weekend. I had forgotten how much I loved this game. They did such a great job turning this one dimensional character into someone you actually care about. The gameplay is all excellent, especially the bow which is always what I use the most in this game. It probably does rank pretty high in my favourite games of all time.

Which makes sense as the PS3 was the hardest to develop for. I think the PS5 will do just fine. They won’t necessarily have the big first party exclusives straight away but consoles these days (ignoring the Switch) are designed to keep up powerwise and be a lot simpler to develop on so any porting to get a good launch lineup shouldn’t that bad. The one I’m gonna find interesting in the next few years is third parties and the Switch. They’ve done a surprisingly good job porting over some of this gems games (some not so good as well) but with them being in this weird limbo generation of their own, they’ll now be an extra generation behind when it comes to specs so as some of the third party games get more complex again it’s gonna be harder and harder to do a bit of extra work like Doom or Witcher 3 and bring them across.

It’s too long and probably boring of a situation to go into but I’m not even against what they want changing. The majority of the issues come from the lack of discussions beforehand and when I did have a meeting and try to explain any issues I got cut off with every sentence with a lot of empty comments or flat out ignoring what I’d said previously. The receptionist has added nothing of value to any of this. She has no helpful points or comments, simply demands that the changes must be made with no consideration for what it entails. It’s a continued history of her ignoring what I say because she’s one of those people who thinks they know better in every area. I’ll leave this now anyway. Each time I talk about it I tend to get wound up again and it’s not worth it. It’s a crappy job working with crappy people and no particular respect for the staff from the higher ups. As I said, until I can find something else I will just do my job and go home.

I’ll be preordering one for launch. I love the excitement of a new console launch, even if the games usually turn out to be a bit lacklustre at first.

The problem is that it's a school and one of the issues it will cause will be our text messaging service will fail to work so any emergency messages about school closures or even just late returning trips simply wouldn't go out. That should show you the level that they don't think about the consequences of stuff. That, and the fact that our newly implemented lockdown procedure is to place a megaphone in each building then if the school is locked down we just yell into it for everyone to lock the doors. Fucking genius

Given how much help I have to give her for basic IT stuff and the amount of times she locks her account by putting in the wrong password I would say her IT experience at this other IT place was being their receptionist. It didn't help that everytime I tried to explain an issue I got cut off by her with some other excuse or "yes I say it HAS to be done because it does". My argument has never been that the changes she wants wouldnt be helpful (I won't bother going into them, they're boring database stuff) but that they would cause issues so if we really need to do this then there needs to be an actual discussion on why/how and go from there. Not just ignoring my concerns three times now. Stuff won't get better at my job, I've accepted that. I'm looking everyday for a new job so hopefully something will come from that and on the work end, I've deleted my work email accounts from personal devices and am just going to distance myself from the staff there. No going to the pub, having lunch in the common room etc, just do the job and go home with nothing outside my official job roles even being considered. I bent over backwards to help out here and constantly get shat on so they can get by on their own from now on.

Well I don't know how well I could say that meeting went. I tried to stay calm but I was physically shaking with anger at times that they must have caught onto. Still ended up getting spoken down to because the receptionist "has worked at an IT place before so knows what she's talking about" despite this being my actual job and area.

Well the staff moaning about this complained to the bursar, who then tried to arrange a meeting but because I was ill had it without me and then at the end just gave me the same list of questions I originally answered. I’ve now complained to the bursar that I should have been included so another meeting has been arranged. Also getting him to address the fact that we are left out of the loop until after decisions are made and problems caused. I don’t expect anything to come from it but we’ll see. The worst part was that I somehow fell out of the email chain arranging this meeting before I even knew I wouldn’t be in for most of this week so they obviously didn’t particularly care that much to begin with.

Well I can only go from my own experience and in my experience it was still terrible.

The other thing that would put me off getting this is that the GB/GBC/GBA market is even more flooded with fake carts than any other I've seen. I tried starting a GBA collection last year and couldn't trust anything I bought. I ended up with multiple fake carts almost immediately.

I don’t know if it comes standard but it has a Switch style dock for HDMI out.

Doubt I’ll be getting this one. Never really was a big handheld gamer.

No, what I meant was that maybe what gaming is/is becoming is passing us by. We were the mainstream market once and I just mean that things change. What we want isn’t what they want and the same thing will happen to them.

While I don’t think either game had great marketing and should have been shown off more, I don’t think it’s fair to just blame the mainstream market. They like what they like. We’ve all grown older and things change. It can’t all be Asteroids, Space Invaders and Adventure anymore.

I was just considering getting this on Switch but looking through the shops I see that the remastered PS4 version is cheaper than the PS3 ported Switch version. It’s ridiculous. Ive given up on the idea of playing it now and instead decided to dig my PS TV out, plug it into the projector and replay Persona 4 Golden 😆

It’s NFC for things like paying with your phone. If you go into your settings you should just be able to type in NFC and then turn it off if you don’t think you’ll use it.

Your bank will definitely give you better answers than we can.

Don’t think there is an other consoles thread so this’ll have to go here. Just in case you guys hadn’t seen, MK11 is free this weekend on PS4 and Xbox One.

Had a cold all last week and just as I thought I was getting over it I find I now have Sinusitis so half my face now is constantly aching. It fucking sucks!

It already leaked. They’re releasing their own version of the PS3.

Oh I get the complaints or money considerations people might have but that wouldn’t really change the basic facts of what the parts are worth. No different to a PC.
