Apart from Arrietty, I saw One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest last wednesday (in the cinema that is, a great way to go see a classic I haven’t seen yet). The film was great. Stellar performances from the whole cast (quite a few familiar faces), and eventhough the film deals with some heavy stuff, there are plenty lighthearted scenes which can be hilarious. Well, I found threm hilarious, but I didn’t hear many people laughing. Again, it deals with some heavy stuff, but how can you not laugh when they’re just being idiotic? . It’s also great to see Nicholson in another role than just the grumpy old man I’m more familiar with from his last films. Nicholson is awesome.

So yeah, the new (for us) Ghibli. Saw it last wednesday, but hadn’t spent much online since, so didn’t want to open a thread yet, but now I’m ready . Ghibli is always quality (even when it slightly disappoints like tales of Earthsea), so I’d rather open a thread for it than post this in the general movie thread. Personally, I (& my brother) loved it. The typical Ghibli charm is all over it. The 2D animation is lovely (well, there are a few noticeable 3D elements, but they didn’t bother me in this film). It has the sense of scale like you get in Chibi Robo for example, but unlike Chibi, it has a great sense of adventure. I also really loved the music, it was great, except for the English sung themesong. What set this apart from the last few Ghiblis, for me at least, was that this had a nice linear story, which is nice for a change. Take Ponyo for example.. It’s cute, and a lot happens, but there isn’t much story to speak of (that makes sense, but maybe I’m remembering it wrong). I guess I think it’s simply too “whimsicalâ€. I loved Ponyo, but like I said, it’s nice to have a simple story for a change. Anyway, if you like anime, then go see it if you have the chance. If you’re a Ghibli fan, well, then you’ve already seen it probably.

So.. Finally saw her Friday at North Sea Jazz. Great performance, but too bad the sound wasn’t all that great, though it got better later on. Janelle sure knows to put up a show. All kind of theatrics, a live painting session, and even an oldksool stagedive! Yes blurry (I really have to get a better camera for next year / in general), but it’s proof :p. I haven’t been to many concerts, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen one.. I didn’t want to spend any more money.. But I had to get a souvenir: I wanted to get it just in case I’d have an opportunity to get an autograph, but unfortunately, I missed my chance at the afterparty where she was “DJ-ing†(she was picking the tunes and doing some dancing, while a real DJ was doing the actual DJ-ing ). Oh well, I’ll get that chance another time . I needed that album anyway.

I was sure the NOA online shop had those for sale, but they don’t now at least. Still.. If you want the original, perhaps you should simply try customers service to see if they have it as a spare part.

Goafer: I think it looks horrible. I look at these things as both some sort of amateur webdesigner guy, and simply a user, and as a user, I can’t stand de “layout”. It isn’t clear what’s supposed to be what. As someone who takes a look at your blog, because you asked, I left after 10 seconds. As a user I would leave after 2. Usually, simple is best when it comes to webdesign (which doesn’t mean minimalistic or something). I like your site, it is clean and simple, if I want info from it, I know where to look. A last comment: you simply want a gallery blog, with each of those sliding things representing a new photo, right? But a sliding image like that, or an image with an on:hover function in webdesign terms, usually represents something clickable, which is what makes your blog confusing. Hamishmash: not a fan of the design (graphics-wise), but it’s clean, I always like that. Personally not a fan of fixed backgrounds, but to each his own. I would get rid of the white lines on the sides though.

Why go through so much trouble? And the Helmsly & Dyson anwsered already, but you can record your movies since recently, by pressing F6. I’m trying it out right now, I may upload it later just as a test, the options are great though, up to 1080p recording. And since it’s after the fact, it won’t mess with your framerate. All multiplayer games should have such an option. Too bad it doesn’t always work correctly.. I had a great run (although, there were bots present apparently), but something went wrong with the replay save.

Nice couple of games with Cube Ville & McPhee. I keep forgetting TF has a built-in replay / video feature.. We should make use of it next time .

I’m cool either way, but it does sound even more fun. [Take your pick] (They seem to be ordered on their Pokedex number, so just count and look up their names on Serebii.net for example)

North Sea Jazz (/Soul/Funk/Pop/HipHop) starts tomorrow, and I’ll be seeing Janelle Monae. Twice even probably, because I intend to go to an afterparty where she's doing a DJ set (?). I wish I had more money, Prince is performing as well, 3 nights in a row, but that’s not included in the regular tickets.. Would’ve loved to see him. Oh well. I’m glad I can go at least one of the 3 days this year.

But next time we should co-ordinate our team chat a little better . It’s more fun if we are in the same team no? Can’t we all join as a clan or something?

Ha, well I have a mic, but no headphones at the moment.. :| But I wouldn't want to expose you to my atrocious spoken English anyway . or the sound of my computer fans for that matter .

I think I’ll pass for now.. The DVD isn’s much more expensive on Amazon, I think I’ll get that one later if I really want it.

Hmm, is Alpha Protocol worth 5 Euros? It got mediocre reviews I believe, but I was looking forward to it before its release, and well, 5 Euros.. I’ll check those reviews again. Interested in Doom 3 as well. Would love to add a multiplayer game though, but I can’t spend the 25 Euros on Homefront now.

I can’t tonight (unless after midnight), but I’m available for tomorrownight if people want to play a game then. Just set up a Steam group event, otherwise I’ll check this thread.

Yup, Arrietty, the current Ghibly will play starting Wednesday here, so I’ll be seeing it (and probably open up a thread for it).

Great! I’d like to see (test) footage! Slightly similar, but a low budget solution to filming out of the carwindow is to use a bag of rice to steady your camera. Or so I’ve heard. But again, I’d love to see how your rig performs.

Can you give an estimate of when this’ll start? Also, how does this exactly relate to Pokemafia 12 and the previous mafias? (that said, if it won’t start for quite a while, I’m likely to join)

Roles looked cool Tales! I think, the nightless set-up could’ve worked if you took a little more time planning for it, and working out how role abilities should be applied. It’s a shame, because it clearly didn’t work as a last-minute experiment, which resulted in an awkward switch to a tradional set-up. I honestly think it could’ve worked. Anyway, the theme was very cool, and all the characters just sound epic. I would’ve enjoyed this one if I wasn’t on a break!

I dunno, the arctic silver has good reviews, and it’s what most people use on the tech forum I go to.. It’s what I used. (then again, if you don’t build computers for a living (or just a lot just for fun), then you only need a few drops of the stuff, so I you know anyone else who has built a computer recently, perhaps you can just borrow a tube)

Today’s Steam Summer sale deals include Braid for € 2,24, I think I’m getting that one. (Although.. Have to hurry, it only last for 1,5 more hours before the next day starts)

I don’t. Toy Story 3 felt like the perfect ending. Then again, I wasn’t expecting much from that one either, but they nailed it. If anyone can nail a 4th, it’s Pixar, but at this point I’d prefer if they didn’t.
