  1. Wen to see The artist today. My personal film of the year. Everything was perfect. Humour, drama, romance, it had everything. It being a silent film, the cast was clearly cast for their faces & facial expressions. With no recorded sound, you focus much more on anything else, and the facial expressions were just lovely and fantastic. The music was great too.. And the clothes. And the sets. Oh and the dog! It’s a sweet movie, reminding of simpler times. If it wasn’t for some familiar faces, and the fact it’s lovingly poking fun at the fact it’s a silent film (one of the film’s theme is the transition from silent films to spoken films in that period), you’d think you’re watching an old film. Oh well technically the framerate isn’t correct as well, which is also addressed in the film . I’m actually in the mood for old films now. I want to watch Metropolis.. Wish I had gone when they were showing it with live music! Anyway, again, it’s my personal film of the year, and I’m pretty sure nothing’s going to to that next month. Edit: While looking for the poster above I came across [this review] which, well, is better written than mine , yet echoes exactly how I feel about it.
  2. That’s weird. I dunno what exact page you’re looking at, but I don’t see those prices. It could be they’re using our IPs to check our location, and serve up a page (with corresponding prices) based on that, but then I don’t know what the purpose is of manually changing your location. Notice the location bottom-left.
  3. Ah ok, congratulations . So now all you need to do is win your case against the ticket inspector! Don’t let him get away with it! Do you have his name?
  4. Nopes, when I change the country to Ireland I see a discount of € 91,- as well (on the MacBook pro in this case).
  5. I don’t know.. I’m not intimitely familiar with the game, nor have I played the original RPGs. The original does seem like something I’d really enjoy (though I’ve been spoilered in the meantime), and this new game.. Well it also does look like something I’d enjoy. As a single player RPG.. I’d love to play through the story, but I don’t see why I’d want to pay for a subscription for it. But again, I haven’t kept up with all the news on this game.
  6. Well, I see a discount of € 91,- on the MacBooks, still not great, but a significant difference nonetheless . At the very least it’ll allow you to but some extra software or accessories. Anyway, I don’t think these are the deals “Black Fridays” are famous for (but perhaps I’m wrong), but it’s still nice if you were shopping for them anyway. But yeah, only this day..
  7. Dude.. I’ve read the stuff about your troubles at your previous job, and now this? You’re one unlucky guy. I hope you win the lottery soon or something, you deserve it.
  8. The first one is nice.. Though I remember seeing a Dutch short with the exact same theme, though it took a more funny approach if I recall correctly. I’ll try to find it. The second is one awesome piece of stopmotion, great music as well! I can’t find it on Youtube unfortunately, so I can’t embed it. It’s Dutch, but there’s barely any dialogue, I suspect you don’t need to understand it. http://player.omroep.nl/?aflID=11597441 Apart from the above, I’ll try if I can find some other ones I remember seeing on Dutch television or festivals. Edit 01: Ok thanks, I'll be up all night looking for / at shorts This one’s strange: Edit 02:
  9. I’m guessing Paj wants the authentic feel of real cassettes, otherwise he could just use an mp3 player (or the thing you linked). Paj, do you have an old hi-fi stereo with tapedeck lying around? Do your parents have one? Anyone else? If you can find one, it will probably have a line-in / mic input. You’ll need a [male-to-male 3,5mm stereo cable], perhaps an adapter if your stereo doesn’t take the 3,5mm. Then you simply plug in your mp3 player, hit play on it, and hit rec on your stereo.

  11. If you were going for “mafia scumnag” you’ve totally succeeded . Edit: On the subject of glasses: when looking at girls I think I generally prefer girls without glasses, but as always I make exceptions. Some girls simply look totally hot with glasses, and I can’t imagine them without them. I assume it’s the other way around as well. Like Eenuh says, it depends on the person. But if they bother you, you can always wear contacts.. I wear glasses, but I like ’m, and I’d never put up with the inconvenience of contacts. Just make sure you pick the right pair of glasses for you, treat them as an accessory, because that’s what they are. Pick them like you pick your clothing. I never liked my glasses before, untill I consciously picked one (designer brand) myself.
  12. With my crap internet I didn’t watch the video, and then it isn’t clear that this is a new short which will be shown before the new Muppets film. Anyway, now I know. I have a bunch of these toys, used to love ’m. Don't think I’ll get rid of them, they’re part of the nostalgia.. My memories of the good times. Going to the new Disney with the family, going to McDonalds afterwards to get one of the corresponding toys.. Maybe I can be arsed to make a picture later. I believe if you have quite the collection, you can actually make a bit of money by selling them on Ebay.. Unfortunately my collection is far from complete. Edit: Looking at Ebay, I may have been too optimistic about the money.
  13. Never was much of a chatter.. Nickserv available?
  14. I aim to please.
  15. Now I feel bad. What if I made you a signature of me in that pose, would that be ok? You could stare at that..
  16. I know how you feel, I’m not exactly a smooth operator myself. The thing is, you’ll miss a lot of opportunities if you always need a proper excuse to start a conversation. Just say hi, and well just babble. Coherently. If you know what I mean . If you fail miserably, take comfort in the fact you’ll only experience a bit of awkwardness for a minute, then you’ll never have to see her again. Anyway, take a cue from the dude on your avatar how to please the ladies:
  17. Well, the thing is Dazz, I think there are 2 types of people. People who feel there are certain places and certain times for courting other people, and those who believe all’s fair game. You need to be the latter. See a cute girl on the bus? Go sit next to her and make your move. In the supermarket? Do your thing. Basically say hi to every lone girl you see when doing every day things. If you really need a “proper” excuse, go do the usual group activity things. Follow a course.. A language course for example, or take up a sport. Edit: took too long to post.
  18. When Daft started this thread almost a year ago, I wasn’t really interested. I feel the same as Diageo, it doesn't really make me laugh, but I’m not quite sure if it’s supposed to. But I do like the artwork. Now the thread’s been bumped, I’ve read some of the more recent ones, and the story seems to take a turn for the epicness. I’ll give the entire series a proper read some day. I can imagine this as some sort of weird, gritty, post-apocalyptic sci-fi film with the occasional dry humour. If they can get actors with spot-on delivery, maybe even I can laugh about it. Oh, and if the mods rename this topic Romantically Apocalyptic - the webcomic, then “the singles thread†can be renamed to Romantically Apocalyptic. I also deem that appropriate .
  19. Finally saw The station agent on BBC last Sunday. The film was hilarious. Extremely dry humour, exactly my style. Like that guy in the beginning, that “train chaser”, commenting on his movie. “this is one of the darker tunnels in Canada..” You have to see it I guess. Glad I stayed up. I feel almost the same. I’d prefer it if they went realistic this once.. I’m sure they can do it, and the setting, and the atmosphere certainly would allow for it. I’d really like to see a “serious” 3D animation again, haven’t seen one (personally) since, damn, The spirits within. But instead they use an artstyle more geared towards their younger audience it seems. Anyway, ultimately no problem, I’m going to enjoy it anyway, and Kelly McDonald’s voice melts my heart . But I hope one day Pixar will make that “serious” animation, not aimed at kids for once. Or perhaps another studio, but I find that even less plausible.. Maybe Dreamworks?
  20. Took this picture last week. At least you’re warned.
  21. Had that ticket for 3 monts now. ’t was a nice evening. Some lovely songs, and she’s pretty funny too! At one point, the drummer just took out a carton box, and played on that. No need for drums! Good thing I took that gamble 3 monts ago, I generally can go to concerts for free (just like the movies, the concert was at the cinema / jazz podium where I work), under the condition it isn't sold out. But she’s a pretty big name for us, so I bet on this concert being sold out, and just bought the ticket (way) in advance. And it was sold out. All worth it.
  22. On no, that’s ok, I’ll just stare at my signature.
  23. Got a mail that Apple is having some kind of event on their online store this Friday, where they give away a lot of discounts. I assume this is an international offer? Keep an eye out in that case. Wish I had the money to take advantage of that deal. Would like to have an Ipod nano. If I had one, I’d mainly use it for internet on the go, if it fits in the bag (and I’m carrying my bag, but I usually do). I have no interest in most of their apps, like games. I could however see it as an excellent presentation device, which is the main reason why I could see myself buying an iPad 3 in the future.
  24. I love me some new femelas on the forum.
  25. Great article Eddie. Though I didn’t need to explicitly realise that.. I always was selective. There’s plenty things I want to try, but I can’t try everything. Frank, you need to be open to everything, but also be efficient in determining what is and what isn’t your cup of tea. Quickly discard anything that isn't to your liking, so you can try something else that may be worth your time. It may be beneficial to prioritise stuff that relates to what you’re doing / would like to do profesionally, it’s important to do stuff for a living you actually like. Don’t try stuff because others say you’re missing out, but because you think you’re missing out. And it may be a while, but remember you have plenty of time to catch up on stuff when you retire.
