  1. I haven't found any official announcements yet, but there are reports of another Pokemon Nendoroid, Nendoroid Cynthia: Maybe @Serebii has some details? Anyway, the reports say it will be an exclusive again, and will be released in July. She also comes with a pokemon. And on the subject of Pokemon Nendoroids, the US pokemon centre didn't have enough stock of Nendoroid Red, so prices for him are through the roof. It's really ridiculous, Japanese versions are being sold for 15000 yen (i.e. more than 3 times the original price). If you missed out on him, and want this Cynthia Nendoroid, you may want to try proxying this time. I don't know who she is, but she's cute, and I want her alongside my other Nintendo Nendoroids, so I'm definitely going to order one. Or three. edit: Pre-orders start March 7. Something official: [tweet]568670212230221824[/tweet] Price is 5000 yen. Official announcement: http://www.pokemon.co.jp/info/2015/02/150220_p01.html
  2. Just to be clear: I generally agree I shouldn't judge films on their trailers alone. However, I've also come to trust my intuition, which is more right than it is wrong. Elysium's trailer looks bland. There's a chance I may enjoy the film if I do decide to watch it, but the fact that a lot of people didn't really like it , or found it mediocre, doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence. So that chance that I may still like it is very small. Chappie however.. I'm not exaggerating when I say that to me, that trailer is downright offensive. Every time that girl utters anything, I want to punch her in the face. The premise is generic, which in itself isn't a problem, but the trailer doesn't show anything that may elevate it beyond its initial premise. The bits of script that are presented don't sound very good. I'm not fan of the robot design, which seem to be anime inspired, but infused with this Neill Blomkamp style. But the biggest problem is the casting of people who aren't actors. There's not just a chance I won't like this film, it's guaranteed. As for District 9, I honestly can't remember much of the film, or why I didn't like it. I believe I didn't like the 2nd half, when the guy started to transform. I think the film just ended up being a generic sci-fi action film during that 2nd half, and I just wasn't impressed with it. It did have an interesting premise, which is why I was looking forward to it. I liked the setting. Yet all I remember is being disappointed. No, the Neill Blomkamp style just isn't for me.
  3. Well it's obvious that the director doesn't have a good track record in my opinion. Of course that's not the end all be all, but it makes sure I won't be interested in the film beforehand, and it takes a ridiculous amount of good word of mouth before I'll even consider to go see it. It's the exact same reason why I won't see the next Michael Bay film for example, whatever that may be.
  4. District 9 was a disappointment, Elysium's trailer looked very generic, Chappie's trailer looks downright offensive. No, I will not be seeing this Alien film thanks.
  5. Some titles to remove from my digital backlog: I never owned Super Mario World, and therefore never played it extensively. I want to get the cart some day, but as I was getting Wii points anyway, and my 2nd hand SNES isn't hooked up, I thought I might as well. This game is basically all new to me, didn't even know how to fly with the cape. Something different: Stumbled upon this by accident. Not released yet. Indie game where you dig through old archived police interrogation footage of a woman who's suspected of murder. Interesting concept, but the hook for me was the fact the writer of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was behind it. And finally: One of the series I was looking forward to. I'm not that fond of the season splitting, but I've decided I wanted to see the first 8 episodes, and if they release full season box sets later I may switch to that. edit: And on a sidenote, Game of thrones season 4 should be shipped tomorrow (pre-ordered months ago).

  7. Or.. Potential awesomeness. As for the "fan" castings above.. Now I really want to see Michael Shannon playing Ganondorf.
  8. Another problem is, Sony still has more control over the spin-offs. The whole Spider-man part of the MCU will be one big mess.. And I hope he doesn't get shoehorned in films where they didn't plan for him. The deal itself is exciting, but comes with another set of problems.
  9. 50 shades premièred tonight in The Netherlands. I didn't realise it beforehand, since I don't care for the film at all, but I should have bought a ticket. Sitting between hundreds of horny women. Missed opportunity.
  10. Myeah..... The picture isn't working for me. I just have to say: I don't know what's on the picture, but that's one hell of a dubious expression right there.
  11. Ah, thanks for that, I was wondering what the person the character was based on was like (but never bothered to Google it ). Funny to see the mask is definitely based on the real thing, but the character looks very different from the original.. Music sounds different as well.
  12. I should be excited about this (and deep down I am I guess), but I really hate losing out on Andrew Garfield. Say all you want about the 2 amazing Spiderman-films, the cast wasn't the problem. I've commented on another site (when this was just a rumour): regardless if they just completly ignore the universe Sony has built up, they should still cast Andrew Garfield. Just a simple official statement that it's a different Spider-man, but the same actor, would suffice to us nerds, but it wouldn't matter at all to the general public [*]. Some may be confused at most. Now Marvel's casting has been gold so far as well, so I'm confident they'll find another good actor for the role, it's just that this is a weird situation where I'll be disappointed anyway. [*] edit: to give an example: I have a friend who is aware Spider-man is a Marvel character, but was not aware of the weird licensing problems Marvel had, which excluded him from Marvel's own films prior to this deal.. I had to explain why he couldn't show up.
  13. Won fest barrage incoming (I hope there's more on the way) Scale Link figure announced by Max Factory Cordelia sculpt revealed: Kirby figure announced: More Nintendo Nendoroids! My wallet would be crying, if I had one.
  14. It is unexpected, but their sources say they're at least discussing it (which had been corroborated by Slashfilm), and to be honest that's already more than I expected. Nothing may come out of this, but it's still cool news if true.
  15. Let the hype begin. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2015/02/06/legend-of-zelda-netflix-series/
  16. This should be in the sad stuff thread, but maybe someone will get a laugh out of this: http://video.foxnews.com/v/4031548710001/men-turning-too-much-into-villains-and-fools/?playlist_id=930909787001#sp=show-clips
  17. Why do you need 3 Gameboy cameras? :P Nendoroid Link is getting a re-issue, if you missed him the first time around, or just want another one, now's your chance!
  18. Now I've played it, I can say it's exactly as I predicted in my earlier post. You can only rewind a little bit, once you go to the next location, your choice is set. And you'll have to live with the consequences. Max will have a comment wondering if she shouldn't pick the other option, but she does so for every option, so it's up to you to choose and commit to one. It's of course to early to tell, but the major choices have potential to have far reaching consequences. Anyway, like I said, I think it's great. I absolutely love the highschool setting, and I really love playing as a teenage girl who's also a photography nerd. Max is adorable. Especially when she's drooling over camera equipment . Just like Dreamfall, this is heavily influenced by the Telltale design of episodic games with consequences (or whatever you call this genre ). Complete with a warning beforehand telling you your choices have consequences, and with a stats screen afterwards. It has more in common with Dreamfall though. It's very light on actual gameplay. There are some light puzzles, but I suspect if you're rushing through the game to reach the ending, you can do that in a half hour. But I spent nearly 4 hours with the first episode, just taking everything in. Just like Dreamfall, they spent a lot of effort in world building. Locations aren't as big as in Dreamfall, but there's plenty to do. You can talk to all your classmates, hear Max's comments on a multitude of things, and there's the optional collectible sidegame, where you can take pictures of objects. There's even this handy collectible mode to quickly grab the pictures you missed without affecting your "canon" choices. I just did that, and noticed various things I missed the first time around. Anyway, like I said, I love the setting, and the relaxed vibe the game has in general, and I had fun playing this first episode. Can't wait for the second one to come in March.
  19. I'll elaborate later, and post my choices then as well, but I just want to quickly say I "finally" got to play this last night, and thought it was great.
  20. After 11 days of watching films, here are my favourites: Reality (Inception but with bizarre French humour) Laggies (comedy with Keira Knightly, Chloe Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell, not getting a cinema release in The Netherlands) Guns and talks (old South-Korean crime comedy) Frank (comedy with Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson, about a band where the leadsinger keeps a mask on at all times) Still Alice (drama with Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin, about a woman with Alzheimer) And my number 1 favourite No men beyond this point (hilarious mockumentary about a society where men are on the verge of going extinct) But these are also films I found enjoyable: La la la at rock bottom (Japanese crime comedy about a gangster with memory loss who starts singing) The kingdom of dreams and madness (Ghibli documentary) Life itself (Roger Ebert documentary) Cosmodrama (French sci-fi in 60s style) Magical girl (Spanish drama about a man who blackmails a woman to get money for his sich daughter) NN (Peruvian (?) drama about a forensic detective who tries to determine the identity of a body from the 80s) When Marnie was there (latest and perhaps final Ghibli) A girl walks home alone at night (Iranian vampire film with style) And for those interested, here's my [complete list]. The few non-festival films I've seen this year so far: Black coal A Chinese drama about an ex-detective trying to solve an old murder case, I thought it was pretty good. The theory of everything You all know this one. Stunning performances by the two leads. Watching Eddie Redmayne "walk" was uncomfortable and very convincing. What we do in the shadows Mockumentary about vampires in New Zealand, and every cliche will be thrown at you. Not super hilarious, but funny nonetheless. John Wick Revenge action film with Keanu Reeves. Not a film I´d normally decide to go to myself, but I heard good things about it. Some nice action and choreography, overall pretty bad-ass, but I wouldn't say exceptional. Some prefer this one over the similar The equalizer, but I think I prefer that one. Films I´m (probably) seeing in the near future: Birdman, The imitation game, Inherent vice, Foxcatcher, Big eyes, A most violent year, Turist, Kingsman, the secret service, Jupiter ascending and Big hero 6. If I have the time, I'll make a film 2014 topic and list all the films I've seen and highlight my recommendations.
