  1. Exactly, which was why I used HRHR as a starting point. Everyone had exactly the same role / ability, except some were town and some mafia. Easy to implement. If you start doing more normal set-ups, you either have to build a dedicated site / script for each set-up, or go beyond that, and build a site / script that can be customised for most normal set-ups you can think of. In other words, one where you can choose per game which roles / abilities players will have per game. On mafia scum, they are pretty entrenched in traditional mafia flavour, with tradional roles which are expected to behave a certain way. Here we do things differently, and remix roles much more. We think more in terms of abilities then roles. A set-up with a doctor, cop, and some mafia and town vanillas, is not something you'd see here, except for one experiment by @Yvonne. So one catch-all script / site is pretty hard to do.
  2. I doubt it to be honest, otherwise mafiascum would be the first to implement such a thing. Though I don't know which forum software they use. But they only have some custom tags like [vote]player[/vote], which highlight the votes, but they're not counted automatically, and I don't see the massive advantage over using vote: player (though there is some script by someone else who counts the vote tags, but I don't know how well it works, plus I only want to use my own stuff ). I was actually working on HRHR2 mafia, but as a dedicated website. I wanted to keep it a surprise, but seeing the current state of mafia games here.. Plus I never finished it. I was pretty far along, but decided I wanted some things to be implemented better, but then I'm better off starting from scratch. Which I did, but I have no idea when you'll get to see a result. You haven't seen HRHR 1, but is had very simple mechanics, so it was a good game to start with. Features were automatic vote counts, quick votes by clicking buttons, automatic write-ups, plenty of stats I could keep track of, oh hey, and achievements. Basically, when I had finished it, and players signed up, I'd only have to start the game, and sit back and relax. I'll finish it, eventually.
  3. And for convenience (if you want dat meta):
  4. Like I said, I know it's objectively a better place for it, and originally it was actually intended as an IRC game. But I don't think it's exagerrated to say that I haven't had an IRC client installed for a decade.. I'm learning PHP / MYSQL now, and that's definitely better for me as an exercise, and on the organisation side of things for me as a mod. For players, it would definitely better in the chat, but I prefer the forum as a mod. Depends on if it lets me paste the whole write-up in one go. I can do a test in a minute. Well, this is not a mafia game. They currently have a marathon (which is held once every few months), with shorter, faster paced games. This was held there. Anyway, feedback there was the same, both have trade-offs. I think I could simply have the game end when 2 players remain, but one has focussed and the other not. No. If you don't shoot, you'll have lost the opportunity. You need to focus again for next round if you want focus. Oh and next time, gets those customisations in if you can think of any! And again, thanks for playing people. I'm glad you had fun! I enjoyed modding it. Oh and final thing! Damn, thanks people, you don't know how much I appreciate you using the exact format for sending in PMs! On mafiascum, they didn't, so I had to check PM bodies.. This went even more smoothly then there, you are so well-behaved! Entering actions was smooth.
  5. Like I mentioned, you were actually faster. Hey, but congrats on killing the most players! Have a go next time!
  6. Well, I already had a test drive on mafiascum, so I kinda knew what to expect, but it went pretty smoothly there too. I did forget to add playerlists, so I added them in for this round. As a mod, I don't need playerlists, but you do. And like I said above, there is the matter of write-ups / no write-ups. I think technically it may be better off without them, but I like them, so I'd like to know what you people think. And like on mafiascum, I was barely in the thread, so I'm catching up now.
  7. Yes, but like I mentioned in the OP I think, I couldn't be arsed to install an IRC client, and script some IRC scripts again.. That stuff is too long ago for me. I prefer the forum, even though the chat would be, objectively speaking, a better place for this.
  8. Cube focussed, so I ended it early. Thanks for playing! I hope it was a fun 20 minutes . Congrats to Cube, the gamble paid off.. Do you people like the write-ups? On the other site (mafiascum), somone mentioned it may be better without them, and I removed the write-ups there. Would've made the final battle more interesting.. Then again, I think the write-ups are fun, especially when players submit customisations. Oh, by the way, Moogle was actually faster last round, but Cube had priority, so he won. Also, I don't know what's up with count-downs, but I had to edit them, maybe that was the problem. I'm used to 24 hours, not AM/PM. Keep making that mistake.

  19. A doctor who has forgotten all about his hippocratic oath. Yes please! Much obliged. I won't check the thread much, mainly my inbox. Remember, rounds of 5 minutes. Game start: 05-07-2015 22:00 UK [countdown=07/05/2015 11:00 PM;Round 1 has started]Count down:[/countdown]
  20. Just a quick warning though: you can't dodge your own suicide attempt, they're pretty final.
  21. Yeah, I'm set to go in about 2 hours. Too bad, you're welcome next time. That said though.. I thought "the more the merrier", but I ran this Friday on another site, with 4 people, and it still took 25 minutes. 6 players is a good number. @MoogleViper @Rummy @DuD @Cube @Jonnas @Marcamillian
  22. You should do as Conan does, rent a limo, and take several lady friends .
  23. Not sure if you're sarcastic or not, so serious response: It's a film about male strippers. They're going to the sequel, which is out in Norway right now. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2268016/
  24. You stated my reason . That was the short story. (Too short apparently, hence the numbers) Long story, to perhaps satisfy your curiosity: When I first saw Minecraft, I was interested. The simple artstyle actually appealed to me back then, and the videos I saw of the normal survival mode looked interesting.. But I got bored after several let's play videos. Really bored. Lost interest. Then came all the sandbox hype.. That's when I was starting to get a dislike for Minecraft. The simple artstyle works for the game, but it doesn't work for the sandbox. I facepalm everytime I see people building things with cubes that could really use some other shapes (or at least.. lots of smaller blocks.. you know, how anti-aliasing works). And it's exactly as you say, it's basically digital Lego, only even more limited. I think people should play with Lego instead, and if you really need something digital, Lego actually has software, and if you build something with that, you can actually order the physical bricks and build it -- looked it up right now, the software is still available, but you can't directly order your stuff anymore, though you can still buy bricks individually --. Anyway, I don't have experience with typical multiplayer sandbox building games, but not being digital is not an disadvantage for normal Lego in my opinion. But you can guess my reaction when Lego announced Minecraft sets. I get why people want to have a multiplayer sandbox building game, I'm not really in that scene, but as far as I know, there aren't many real alternatives, apart from the newly announced Lego sandbox game. Personally though.. I'd rather buy and build Lego sets. Then finally, the Telltale Minecraft announcement.. I've wanted Telltale to do an original IP. This almost is, since Minecraft, as far as I know, doesn't really have much of a backstory, and this game won't use it I think. So it's an original story with a franchise tacked on I can do without. Telltale games aren't known for their fantastic graphics (technical, not talking about artstyle), and this game is making even less of an effort to look good. So I had pretty much decided to skip this game. Then I saw the voice cast (well I saw Happenstance created a thread for the game, but instead of clicking it, I went to Telltale's blog expecting some updates), and I know the writing will be good. These are two things you can rely on with Telltale games, so now I may get it after all, despite being connected to Minecraft. Voice cast by the way, are established comedians and (Telltale) voice actors: Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens
