Do Nintendo's Game Droughts Make You Game Elsewhere?
RedShell replied to Goron_3's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It's a terrible situation that's for sure, anyone that has owned the Wii U/3DS since launch and is up to date with all of the released games, basically has no choice but to look elsewhere at the moment. As I mentioned in the eShop thread though, I find it mind-boggling how Nintendo allow this to happen in the first place. Do they not see the problem? Not care? It just doesn't make sense, a company of their scale shouldn't get in this situation. Anyway... I'm currently playing several things across many different platforms, and I am still using my Wii U on a daily basis for Wii Fit U. I also downloaded Runner 2 the other day in the sale, but not played it much yet. On PC I've been messing with the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod. Got a copy of PaRappa the Rapper off eBay, which I'm playing on PS3 along with the occasional PSN game. Started borrowing my sister's iPad and have been checking out some of the games on that, Temple Run 2 in particular has been a lot of fun. And my 3DS is still getting used for the odd bit of Animal Crossing (yes, I'm still playing it! ) and some KORG M01D composing. So I suppose one positive to droughts is that it can make you go back to slightly older games that you probably would've stopped playing otherwise, and get a little bit more out of them. But yeah, given the option I'd obviously much rather see a consistent release schedule from Nintendo. -
Yep. The Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack is one of my all time faves and definitely my favorite of Wise's work. You just can't help but smile and feel good when listening to this: So uplifting! Awesome! What program did you use? By the way, there was a DKC soundfont in the works. Not sure if it's still going or not though. The guy making it uploaded this example: I've messed about with F-Zero and Super Mario Kart soundfonts before, really good fun.

Yeah, crazy isn't it? I just can't wait for the next Nintendo Direct... Going to be interesting to see what Nintendo have got cooked up, now that they're well and truly in panic mode.
-
Oh God, I'd forgotten about that. Oh well, at least once MK8 is out (and the N-E League is in full swing) I'll never really notice any future droughts on Wii U. Indeed. I've been very much enjoying that privilege with the PS3 recently, loads of games for me to choose from, at incredibly cheap prices! Obviously anyone that buys a Wii U now will be fine (like you mentioned earlier) all of the games released thus far instantly at their disposal and in many cases a lot cheaper than they were at launch, plus all the upcoming stuff. It's those of us that were there from day 1 that are suffering the drought. I'd like to think that I'll never buy another game console at launch again, but I just know that when Nintendo release a new system, I'll fall into the trap all over again.

Fair play, but given the situation I still think they'd be better off putting a bit more focus on smaller eShop titles. I mean there's going to be a 3 month gap (not quite, but close enough) between Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze! That is insane. You don't need to be "game thirsty" to realise that is way too big of a gap. Obviously wouldn't be as much of an issue if there was substantial 3rd party software available, but there isn't, and there hasn't been for a long time now. Nintendo need to ensure that they can fully support their hardware by themselves, otherwise it's just going to be a ongoing problem that'll really hurt them in the long run as people will start to look elsewhere for their gaming needs.

Same here, PS3 and PC. It's just so disappointing that Nintendo still allows these kind of droughts to happen. Seriously, with the amount of manpower and expertise at their disposal, this should never be an issue. They should be able to literally fart out little games for the eShop, anything to help fill the gaps between major titles. If indie devs can put together games in a relatively short space of time, with like a handful of people working on something, how the hell can Nintendo, a company with thousands of staff, not do the same?
-
Wow, that does look good. Please tell me this game will allow custom soundtracks...
-
Yeah, I listened to it yesterday, great stuff. Cheers for the heads up though. You really should!
-
I added it to the release dates thread. Man, the current situation on 3DS/Wii U is diabolical. Roll on Feb 21st.

Music from the soundtrack CD that they got in Japan has now appeared on .Nintendo, you need to get that on the European Stars Catalogue, pronto! Credits music in high quality: So good.
-
That's understandable, I don't think it's possible to know what this game is really about. This might help though:

Just spotted this on HotDeals: Wii u party with Remote - £14.99 instore @ Sainsbury's

Man, I just really hope they don't mess with it too much. From what I've seen of the game online, the vibe/humour is fantastic. It'd be terrible if they cut that, it's pretty much the main feature of the game! Also, as I posted in here ages ago, they had the voice synthesis system working with English even in the DS game!:
-
OH MY GOD!!!! :bouncy: That has absolutely made my day. I'll tell you what to scrap, Nintendo... NOTHING!!!! Please Please Please don't mangle this game! Just translate it, and get it released over here. Even the stuff that makes no sense at all outside of Japan (or even in Japan ), that's what we want!! I'm really happy this is coming out, but that quote has definitely got me worried.

This. Just bring back the decent Konami in general:

Nintendo Investors Meeting ( now in english )
RedShell replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Game & Wario needs it, also makes one of the best uses of the GamePad in the form of Gamer. Then of course there's the eShop stuff that needs it, Wii Sports Club Golf (how'd you forget that one, Mokong?! ), Art Academy, Wii Street U, Panorama View, etc... not that anyone cares. -
Yeah, I can't see them doing DLC for Mario Kart 8, but you never know. Hopefully then don't though, because I'd have to buy absolutely everything if they did.
-
Yeah, this: Even the box art cracks me up.
-
Let's hope so. True, doesn't make it any less disappointing though. I think the next ND is going to be really important to Nintendo, not to mention incredibly interesting for us. That's why I just can't wait to see what they've got/not got in store.
-
Not really interested in DS VC, no. I've got 63 DS games in total sitting in a cupboard (so yeah, all the best DS games and then some ) if I want to play one again I'll just grab the game card and stick it in my DS/3DS. BUT... If Nintendo were to do a Hanabi Festival style thing and translate Tingle's Balloon Trip and Tomodachi Collection I would definitely buy both of those. The only 2 DS games that I never imported, due to the text heavy nature of both.
-
I cannot frickin' believe that there's no ND going down this week. What in the hell, Nintendo?
-
It's pretty much done, will PM you later on.
