  1. Oh man, forgot about that. Well, you definitely wouldn't be able to notice a difference on Zelda as it doesn't utilise HD Rumble at all unfortunately, supposedly due to its roots as a Wii U title. I think that was actually my first disappointment concerning HD Rumble as I was totally expecting it to be used in that game. But yeah, the effects of HD Rumble are generally pretty subtle and vary a lot by title. If you want another way to differentiate it from conventional rumble though, next time you play MK8, mute the sound of your TV when collecting a coin or boosting and listen closely to the Joy-Con, it kind of makes the corresponding on-screen sound effect just via the rumble motors.
  2. Maybe. Looks like the time limit is 5 minutes anyway, as the option has just gone from my last post in here.
  3. Default theme, using Firefox. Just tried the other 2, but it makes no difference. I have the option to edit posts just after posting, but not for long it seems. Can no longer edit my previous post in here for example, even though the option was there initially.
  4. Is there some sort of time restriction on editing now? I'm not seeing the option to edit old posts, just the MultiQuote and Quote buttons.

Yeah, I’ve also got a substantial amount of coins saved up. Hopefully when the Switch specific rewards finally appear things improve. Even if it’s just stuff like themes (this must be happening at some point) or minor things to unlock in games, just having way more variety in the rewards would really help I reckon.
  6. I remember being quite intrigued by HD Rumble back when the Switch was publicly revealed, it looked like a such fantastic evolution of force feedback technology. Fast forward to actually experiencing the feature on Switch, and well... it wasn't all that exciting. Keep in mind that I haven't played 1-2-Switch (which is supposedly still the best showcase) but its implementation in MK8DX, Arms and Splatoon 2 was pretty underwhelming. Collecting coins in Mario Kart produced an interesting effect, as did the different strength of mini-turbo boosts, but other than that it wasn't particularly impressive. Certainly not individual ice cubes rattling in a glass impressive that is. So yeah, my initial impression of HD Rumble was that of disappointment, and I mostly kept the feature turned off to save battery. However, a couple of games have recently started to change my opinion of the feature quite a bit, they are Thumper and Golf Story. With Thumper it's more to do with how each Joy-Con has its own individual rumble motor, meaning you get clearly defined feedback on both the left and right side (the effect is even more pronounced when using the Joy-Con out of the grip in each hand) but there's also a lot of variation in intensity too, which really adds to the experience. Golf Story overuses rumble quite a bit (literally every speech bubble in the game causes feedback!) but the way in which it subtlety changes to portray the emotion of what's being said is genius. When characters are excited or shouting you get a really strong effect, but when they're sulking or complaining about something you get this kind of drooping effect that perfectly matches the animation of a speech bubble tilting to the side. Similar thing happens when you hit a shot out of bounds, you can kind of feel the ball falling over time, wheeeeeeee.... Anyway, having experienced more of what's possible with the tech I am far more excited about its potential now, and just hope it doesn't end up being neglected in the future. Would really like to see more of Nintendo's own titles making clever use of it though, hopefully Super Mario Odyssey has some nice HD Rumble tricks going on. Well, that's my 2p, how about you guys? And I've not done a poll on the new forum yet, so why not...

Good stuff. Speaking of badges, I wish they would incorporate this kind of thing into My Nintendo already. The fact that you can earn coins via Nintendo's mobile titles but not mainline Switch games is ridiculous. My Nintendo could be a nice take on the achievement/trophy systems from other platforms with seemingly not much effort at all.
  8. I am actually a little bit tempted by Doom on Switch. Silly seeing as I could just get it on PS4 now for like a tenner or something, but when I played the demo my PS4 went more crazy than ever! Seriously, the fan noise is so ridiculously loud and distracting (even with headphones on) not to mention it gives the impression that the console is about to explode! So yeah, if the Switch version is well optimised and doesn’t make it sound like a jet engine, I reckon I’d prefer to take the 30fps hit and just play it on that.
  9. Have to admit I've also never really been a fan of Sonic when it comes to the gameplay, and playing through Mania definitely reminded me just how frustrating it could be. If it weren't for the sensational soundtrack and nostalgic vibes I probably wouldn't have played it right through to the end. To be fair though, the game did also make me laugh a lot, just for all the wrong reasons. But yeah, I think to get the most out of any Sonic game requires really getting into the speed running aspect, something that obviously takes a lot of retries and memorisation to achieve, but probably makes the experience much more enjoyable.
  10. Don't think it's possible any more. Well, previous posts that had embedded YT audio no longer display correctly.
  11. You can filter by release date, price and genre in the New Releases section, but it's tucked behind the "view more" button. This offers section is a nice addition, but the Switch eShop is still miles behind previous versions. Also, I want my elevator music Nintendo!!
  12. Brilliant.
  13. IN! BTW, when making Miis remember to keep the height/weight sliders at their default setting. That's what I did for all of those above (yes, even uncle Phil ) as that way everyone obviously has the same racing stats.
  14. I played the game at launch and remember being really impressed with its presentation. The lighting and shadows, reflections, blood splatting against the walls... it was all pretty cool stuff at the time. The SFX/music was also great, and that disco section is legendary. Not replayed it since, but get the feeling it wouldn't be anywhere near as enjoyable today. Also, I bet the devs are regretting that Jim'll fix it reference now:
  15. Well, I made these Fresh Prince Miis on the Switch: (it's not easy to make a good Will Mii without using the eyebrow "ears" trick, although you probably wouldn't see them in the MK helmet anyway ) But then realised that there's actually no way to get them off my Switch other than via amiibo or local wireless with another Switch... In fact, there doesn't seem to be any way to get Miis on to a Switch other than those methods either! So yeah, kinda messes with the plan a bit. Guess we could still do the theme, but everyone will have to acquire/create their own Miis for it.
  16. Started playing this today, really enjoying it. They’ve perfectly captured the vibe of old-school Mario Golf, and it plays fantastically well too. This also has some truly superb HD rumble going on, really cool. Slightly overused (especially during dialogue) but a nice showcase of the feature all the same.
  17. So apparently there are coins in Luigi’s Mansion, not sure where though. Apart from that, I thought no items coin running was pretty fun. I like the sound of the crown appearing and disappearing of my character’s head every single second too. So glad to be taking part in this and racing with you guys again, nothing beats N-E MK for entertainment value.
  18. Hehehe! This needs to happen. I’m up for having a go at doing the Miis anyway. See you lot at 8!
  19. Completed Thumper. Definitely one of the most challenging games I’ve ever played! Super rewarding though, and the final levels were just mind blowing... It demands such a monumental amount of focus (especially in the later stages) that you cannot help but be completely sucked into the game. You basically have to reach a point where the controller inputs are automatic! Kinda wish I could’ve played this 20 years ago when my reflexes were a bit more with it.

Yeah, it's a shame though as the core game is fantastic. Would've been great if there was more incentive to replay the single player on higher difficulty too, those pictures you get at the moment aren't exactly up to much. I also really enjoy that get arms mini-game, but not a fan of the time limit. Wish there was an endless version that really ramped up the speed and complexity of the targets (a la WarioWare) the more you played. Miss 3 targets and it ends, or something like that. Would also be a nice way to listen to that awesome music for longer.

Nice to see they're still bringing new content to this. Not played it that much since Splatoon 2 came out, and there seem to be way less people online when I do. Perhaps these badges/achievements will get people onboard again. I hope Nintendo eventually add this game to the Nintendo Online app and give it a Splatnet style function, that would be cool.
  22. Is that stuff actually available in the demo? I had a quick go on the Japanese version of it back when that was released, but didn't get too far into it. I remember finding the controls/gameplay to be quite weird, like how you could perfectly jump towards a rope but somehow still miss it and instantly die.
  23. What a surprise! Well, I've still managed to get some "perfect" gear made using all of my losing Sea Snails. Still loving Splatfests, but it would be so much better with a slightly different scoring system I reckon. Instead of 2 pts for 400p inked and then the victory points, they should make it based purely on how much turf you covered. So keep the +2 for 400p, but then increase it to +4 for 800p, +6 for 1200p, +8 for 1600p etc... That way all of those games when you've outperformed everyone else on your team (and even the enemy team ) wouldn't be such a kick in the tentacles.
